Thanks for the video. It's great and I honestly thank you for teaching me indirectly through your videos. When I started playing WoWs I wanted to play BBs as you do but I sucked with the NC and always wanted the Bismarck but went for different classes and ships. Just recently I played my first games with the Bismarck and it was a ton of fun. The built up collective experience lead to very good, but most important: interesting, games with the Bismarck and I fully support your statements about the battle impact of well played brawling BBs. It is a challenging but rewarding playstyle. Since I don't want to invest my lifetime at the moment into the game, I deinstalled it but your video and promise is _really_ tempting to install it again. ^^
I still feeling salty since there are no seconday skill for cruisers. I was a proud owner of secondaries BC: Agir and Siegfried. It was really useful, now both are useless
As a relatively new player sitting at tier 6 max, and less than 800 battles, I think about this constantly. Mostly because I am screwing it up, and watching other players after I am dead. There is a perfect balance that the best players seem to constantly attain, win or lose. It is also infuriating watching some players in any class failing to use aggression at the right time, failing to be in support of other players who are quickly melting, and just trying to survive the match with a loss.
Great vid, man. I cut my teeth in battleships and you've honestly been my go-to for schooling. I've learned a lot from you. This video stands out. It's awesome to see you keep honing in on builds that work for you even though (let's face it) you're a hall-of-fame player. You know battleships inside and out and you're still just throwing ideas out there. Specifically, your build talk in this one reminded me both of the basics (main guns) and more importantly it reminded me to think outside the box a little and remember to try different set-ups... That's always a good thing no matter how much experience you have. I'm glad you're still giving us content PQ. Cheers man.
I understand your point about building for main guns giving us more "bang for the buck" because you use them more than secondaries. But TBH if I want to play focusing on the main guns, I just use a different BB, which has better main gun accuracy. IMHO There's no point trying to turn a FdG into a Yamato for sniping. Just get a Yamato for that ;) I try to keep my builds varied to get different playstyles from different BBs, that's why I go for a [nearly full] secondary build on my German BBs and play them for the fun of it, not necessarily focusing on large dmg numbers.
Hey PQ, Definitely agree with what you've been saying about the brawling ships. I was actually surprised to see how similar our builds are, though in my case I have been running gun feeder on my Preussen just so that I have a quick way of dealing with a DD that manages to bypass my team and try a yolo rush, or misplays and gets spotted by a friendly ship or by myself. I did want to ask though, what angle guide mod do you use? I notice you have it in the bottom left, while the mod I see in the mod station puts it right in the middle of the screen and obstructs my view.
thanks for the video, i was running that that type of build for awhile on my gk and presuian and this video confirmed what i was doing is working for me. whatbi also noticed is when im either the 2 tier 10 ship, iwould get focused fired on, so now get into postion slowly and watch what shops are being spotted in my area. its hard to pick whivh ship i like best, i like both tier 10 german ships butbi also like my brandburg i like to to use brandburg and support another bb, it seems to work well for me but on some maps i have been a bit cheeky and user to mount a cavalry raid. sometime it works anc its fun to dive in and stir thing up
I tend to disagree with "hybrid" builds. It may work on ships with some secondaries as a last points investment (Montana, Preussen, ...) to increase damage output, but most those secondary BBs have atrocious dispersion. Take GK - 273 m standard dispersion is ass. If you stack a "precision" module, it gives 7% better accuracy - which brings you down to 254 m. Improvement? Probably. But with the game being such RNGfest it is almost nonexistent and +20% secondary range to reach those 12-12,5km range is IMHO much better. It is not only about the damage. It is about "being constantly shelled with risks of fires AND some damage dealt atop of main guns in the process. It makes a great psychological advantage and a great source of damage, too. And while 12kms is not a great accuracy, the buildup happening from 12,5km range surely helps and by the time you get to 10 km distance, you have full 60% accuracy and it MAKES difference. A LOT. On Schlieffen, GK, Rupprecht, Bismarck, Pommern ... definitely go for it. Even P.E.Friedrich works great with it. Some other ships can work with hybrid builds, though, where you buff only secondary range and use that as more often buff to reload (Preussen, Ohio?, Shiki, ...)? Open to discussion, please, take part bellow ;)
A hybrid build for secondary ships can be quite flexible and isn't strictly defined by PQ's build in the video. My own build on the Preussen maxes out on secondary power, but I also have main armament mod 1 and reload mod to keep my main guns in the fight and up my main guns' dpm. With the captain build, I have 7 pts invested into secondary skills, but 8 more are invested into having 5 heals and fire prevention. Ironically, my Ohio's equipment build is more secondary-focused than Preussen's, with secondary survivability taking up slot 1, but I also have the dispersion mod tacked on so my guns are more accurate. With my captain build, instead of manual secondaries, I'm going for CQC instead because USN secondaries are better for starting fires over raw penetration damage. Hybrid builds can vary greatly depending on the ship, but they're vastly better than going full on secondary build nowadays, unless you only play the game when Brawls comes around. Survivability is a far more important attribute to have in randoms with the amount of bullshit the game currently has going on.
On the German BB's accuracy mod is a must. On the German BC's you can do without and go 100% secondaries. The US BB's have the great advantage that you don't have to choose. At worst you have to choose between range and secondaries (Georgia and Ohio).
Good content and advice. I've been playing since Beta & I'm learning a lot. Armored_Roman Love secondarys. I've got that build on my Arkansas. Surprise destroyers!
out of curiosity, why don't you take close quarters on these builds? especially if it's still supposed to lean on the main guns, i'd think that the extra reload would be really powerful, no?
@@siriusczech exactly what I was thinking! As good as manual aiming secondaries is, he emphasized that you should still build main guns. This seems like the logical skill to take for that.
why would you set up Emergency Repair Specialist in your commander build when it only shaves off 2.3 sec on specials reload? The 2-second faster reload makes no difference in your gameplay, while extra 1% fire on each secondary shell is a huge difference.
Any opinions on building these without the Manual Secondaries skill? For example building with full survival build and running secondary battery mod 1 or the mod and the long range secondary skill only.
That would work for ships like Massachusetts, Georgia, and Ohio, ships that live and die by the sustaining power of their fast heals and long duration damage control and have accurate main batteries, but the Preussen line's edge over those ships is that their secondaries pen 32mm plating, so you want to maximize that as much as you can. Trying to build full tank just makes you an xp pinata that can barely fight back at any range, whereas a hybrid secondary build at least allows you to bully anyone who disrespects your close range power.
well Preussen is not the best choice for secondary build。Look at the commander skill that manual secondary aiming it will lower accuracy for 15sec not firing or change target and takes 45sec to reach 100% efficiency。It means when a dd suddenly pop out around u,u will have hard time to deal with dd and not to mention those dd will use smoke to run away before your secondary can deal lots damage or kill them。It's just feel not worth it to use it compare the old days when secondary build not nerfed that hard and u can see almost every battleship could build for secondary。The present game mechanism and secondary big nerfed mean secondary builds are gone but only for some ship to use it。
I love my secondaries BB, they're the most fun BB I play, but yeah while I love going gun blazing, secondaries shooting from both sides and all that good stuff, it usually doesn't end well Now I try to play the start of the game more like a normal BB, or more like a cruiser actually, playing around islands, shooting ships in the 15km range cos at least I'm hitting them better with dispersion and when the occasion arise go in range for the secondaries one ship I actually really like for that playstyle is the atlantico.. it's SLOW, it doesn't have any hydro and all the good stuff you want for sec BB but the armor is really GOOD unlike many other like say.. zieten? (god that ship..) and the accuracy of the main guns are really good and while you only have AP I never felt like I was needing HE .. this way I can just bow in, let the sec do the heavy lifting or at least push some smaller ships away and make the best use of the main batteries. I had some amazing games in ranked with that ship, less crossfire and less running around of course in ranked which helps, and sometimes having those games , tanking a tons of damage with secondaries firing on both sides and lighting fires all over.. that feels amazing! yes I do end up dying more often than not, but the damage has been done and the DD might survive but they're in the one shot territory more often than not which render them basically useless unless they're torp boats like yugumo etc..

Personally, I've still kept the secondary-focused hybrid build on my Preussen. The 7% dispersion buff really isn't all that noticeable in my experience, so I do still max out on secondary range and accuracy. Having just recently obtained Ohio though, which is now competing for top spot among my favourite brawling ships, I've gone for a more secondary-focused build on it. Taking dispersion mod and the CQC commander skill instead of manual secondaries is really the only thing keeping it from being a full, ride or die secondary build. Edit: it's not lost on me that my Ohio build leans harder into secondaries than my Preussen build does.
