  • Here is my review of the Dynam P-61 from Bitgo Hobby. In true Dynam fashion, this is an extremely forgiving flying warbird to fly that looks pretty wicked in the air. Power is from a 4s 4000 which provides extremely long flight times and the model maneuvers and flies well with that. There were a couple things that I noted in assembly which I talk through, but nothing too difficult. The P-61 is such a wicked shape in flight and this one characterizes the shape of the design very well. P-61 always has been a favorite of mine. It looks great all cleaned up in the air. Next up, who's gonna have a He-219??❤️

    My father flew that aircraft in Okinawa. 418th Night Fighter Squadron. I wanted to add, they removed the upper turret with the four four .50 cal guns. Made them much lighter. Dad said the four 20 mm mounted in the belly worked really well. Didn’t need the four .50’s. They kicked butt. 🇺🇸

      I thought the plane had 4- 20 mm cannons and 4 .50 mounted in the belly as well. Must have been one show when all fired.

      Hi Major King, No, the -61 had only the four 20mm cannon in the belly and the four .50 cal in the turret. I forgot to add in my previous post that when the turret was positioned in any position other than straight ahead, the aircraft would experience moderate buffeting due to the disturbed airflow across the horizontal stabilizer. That was another reason they removed the turret. All in all, Dad enjoyed his experiences in the P-61. God bless.🇺🇸

    Nice looking machine! My grandfather was a tail-gunner for this warbird during WW2. When the economy picks back up I'll probably get this model.

    beware of the retract plastic liner pockets , the glue just lets go due to hardly any being used if you give it a push pull test

    Really nice plane. Great video with useful info. I love flying twins and this one’s a good size for transport. Done that with carbon rods before and you can file a couple of notches to assist with cutting, but aluminium tube is better for the first pass. But why did they put those nasty hard wheels on it?

      haha, thanks! I was having a blast flying in the fog. I didn't realize how low it was until I took off and it started disappearing in the turn out. ;)

      @@Thercgeek Back in '73 while flying D Novice at a contest in Baton Rouge, the fog was quite thick, took off, climbed up and the pattern ship disappeared - omg. Luckily, I finished the split S and when the pattern ship reappeared I then landed and waited until the fog lifted. Quite the pucker factor!

    Hi Chris,
    I need a suggestion. I’ve been flying my P-61 and love it but as you mentioned the landing gear are just not robust enough.
    Is there a set of retracts from another plane that you would recommend to swap them out with? At least the mains.
    The Merry Boozer suggests the E-flirt F4’s but they are no longer available.
    Appreciate any suggestions. Stay well and keep flying.

      You know, I couldn’t say offhand, but I’m sure there it. Id start out by measuring the current retracts and trying to find a similar sized replacement. Anything will be better than what’s in there, haha

    What wind speeds do you fly in? Want to compare to my area, which is usually windy.

    • @Thercgeek

      I typically fly in the morning when it’s not too windy.

    Just got one and it is typical Dynam model. Lots of work to clean everything up. Quality control is an issue with all their models. I knew this before buying as I have about 5 or 6 models. It just takes some time to make them work well. The air frame is always very good and they fly very well. Too bad these guys will not clean up their act. They could grab a good share of the market it they did so. If you have the time and want a project to work on, then by all means, get one.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with a little better QC and a touch better electronics/retracts, these airplanes would be an unbeatable value!

    • @Thercgeek

      I don’t recall. If all functions are working, I would suspect it’s for the lights.

    I can not see how or where you stuck the wing wires after joining the wings

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no place to put them internally and so I just taped them along the nacelle. Was a bit disappointed with that and forgot to touch on it in the vid.

  • @TT-yg2np
    @TT-yg2np 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool looking, but I'd be super disappointed having to tape the wires to the outside of the plane. That just seems like poor design not to be able to hide those wires!

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was a bit baffled by that. There didn’t seem to be any package protection for the wires at that junction that I could tell.

    • @ThreenaddiesRexMegistus
      @ThreenaddiesRexMegistus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Didn’t notice that. But if that’s the level of thought gone into the design then I’ll pass. But it’s probably an easy enough work-around.

  • @mikewhitaker2306

    I have only purchased one Dynam airplane B-26 do not like their quality it is below average most of the planes have problems with their gear and other issues with quality

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely understand. It seems hit and miss depending on the airframes, but if they could work out the retracts and use a bit better servos in the airframes, it would certainly help.
