    Interesting video. Your video skills are getting better!

    Better than worrying about pot lights, mount a crown molding around the top and run industrial LED strip lighting. I did that and have been super happy with my room with my room.

      You beat me to the punch 😁 I have lots of plans for LED strips and coordinating them with acoustic panels. Even using crown moulding as well. I’ve always been a huge fan of the diffuse lighting it gives off. Glad you’re happy with it! I can’t wait to set up in mine.

    As a heads up, the clips are rated to work with maximum 2.5” wide hat track. Ive found that you can only find this at architectural metal/flashing places. The kinds stocked at home stores and drywall supply stores is all 2.75” and is quite compressed. I had to search for quite a long time to find a supplier. A place that makes/breaks siding, roofing and soffit profiles for commercial buildings. Was cheaper as well which was nice.

      Now I need to check the furring channels I just bought! I was focused on the height of 7/8”, which was already hard to find. Thanks for the tip.

      Well I guess I’m getting lucky on this one. My furring channels from Rona+ are exactly 2.5” wide. Tested with a Sonusclip and it’s a perfect fit. These were the only 7/8” furring channels I could find locally with a web search. I had them delivered, would have been safer to go in store with a Sonuclip to check the fit.

      @@simonbaxtermusic that is lucky, i checked the ones at my rona and they were a no go. It was a pain in the butt. There is a bailie plant here and they might just do local ordering or something. Lol it took me almost 2 months to find 2.5” !

    I used Rod’s book to build a soundproof room in a 1960s semi attached in Winnipeg about 8 years ago. I used double stud walls with resilient channel ceiling. Drywall was double 1/2” with green glue in between and all seams caulked with the green glue white sealant. For HVAC i used a combo of flex duct and a duct muffler from Amazon of all places.
    It ended up working way better than i thought it would. I was able to rock blast beats while my 6mo old was napping on the second floor. My wife could watch TV comfortably in the room directly above me as well. I will note the res channel didn’t do a great job with impact noise from above though.

      That’s great to hear! Green glue was very expensive when I was looking, so I went with more weight. But I’ve heard great things from other people who’ve used it. Your resilient channel experience lines up with mine. I just rebuilt the ceiling and will be editing that video in the next couple weeks. I still hear impact noise, it’s just more muffled. I think impact noise is near impossible to stop without completely detaching the structure.

      @@simonbaxtermusic I will find out when I put my doors on but my ceiling is sonopan, resilient channel, 2 layers of 5/8. I still def hear impact and footsteps. Hoping i can drum while kids are on second floor though.

      @@Polentaccio what’s the quality of the impact noise? Is it dulled a bit? It seems like impact noise from above is near impossible to eliminate. I’ve rebuilt my ceiling with iso clips and I still hear the impact noise as well. At least your drums are below. They would be so much louder if you were above the living space.

    So here is my issue, just got my studio drywalled ( double drywalled) and i was thinking the same with lights. I have one feed coming through the drywall but i also have resilient channel in my ceiling. If i want a fixture, it has to screw into that channel. Im thinking it feeds one slim led in a cloud and then daisy chains. What i ended up concluding is that i have to build a false ceiling of sorts in a frame for my lighting but also rockwool. Also, biggest weakness will always be the door as you have touched on..

      @simonbaxtermusic  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We have the same idea, as long as I’m understanding your description correctly. I’m going to build all the lights into the acoustic treatment on the ceiling. This will keep a single electrical box in the ceiling and I can daisy chain all the lights into that fixture. As long as you’re connecting the fixture to the drywall/resilient channel assembly and not to the studs above you’ll maintain the isolation intended with the resilient channels.

      @Polentaccio 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@simonbaxtermusic Yes this is what i am saying. But working with my electrician, I seemed to think that because my cloud is being build solidly to span between two bulkheads, i don't need a fixture and can go straight to a led pot light and daisy chain from there. Through the 2 layers of drywall, channel and one of sonopan, it is stapled to the joists above my strapping. We will see how it turns out. A bit of a challenge but i concluded that this would be the best way to do it.

      @simonbaxtermusic  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Polentaccio this would be even better for isolation than what I’m doing. If you’re electrician on board that’s great.
