Yes, beyond ruining his own health and well being, being on stage hammered is a terrible disrespect to the fans. Who wants to pay money to witness some group of guys who don't take their profession seriously? It's why I buy CoB albums but don't purchase tickets to their gigs. Screw that. Their reputation for being polluted on stage kills my motivation to spend moolah on a ticket.
When he's drunk, his technique and articulation stinks. Perhaps a slight "buzz" doesn't affect him too much, in the negative, but this has been the case for MANY (young) guitar stars. Ed Van Halen used to play great with a slight buzz, but as years passed, his buzzes became full-blown drunken buffoonery, and it crushed his guitar performances. As I say, no one who indulges to such a degree does not get away with it. Especially someone who makes his living as a musician.
I really love this band and this song, but I am SO burnt on all the overdone alcohol consumption thing. It isn't cool. These guys will likely suffer greatly in later years for all the overindulgence. Despite mountains of evidence of direct comparison, rock stars rarely seem to have enough brains to avoid such obvious pitfalls. I'd have rather watched a video of the boys simply performing the tune. This "let's drink 'til our livers are shot and we're alcoholics" nonsense is OLD.
