- A short tutorial on harmonising a funeral march theme in the style of a romantic composer. Of course, the last version doesn't have to be definitive and isn't certainly the best one; it's up to you to find which variation suits your aesthetic the most. But all the techniques I've shown are definitely worth considering and studying to have them when needed.
Melody fragment taken from 300 texts et réalisations - RAYNAUD Jean-Claude.

These videos are really helpful and well-made! Looking foward to more of these!
I love your harmonization videos a lot!! so cool to see how you put the analysis and theory in your other videos into creating something and then teaching us even more about it :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them
When I asked the goated answered; keep it up, bro

Thank you!
Awesome explanations here, thanks :)
Yo creo que deberías de hacer temas con variaciones. Ya que tocaste este tópico.
Muy buena idea, muchas gracias !
Amazing
A helpful guide and a video as always. Quick question: When you change chords from basic to more articulated ones, I kinda feel lost. How do you decide how to change the chords ? For instance: I would never think to put an inverted half diminished chord on the first bar.
The inverted half diminished chord is just the second degree of G minor with a seventh, so it's not too hard to imagine I think. For the others they're mostly chromatic passing chords, you kind of have to experiment and gain experience on what works.
@@skylarlimex Experiment and experience collaboration is definitely needed in my case haha. Thanks for the answer Skylar!
amazing video
Hey Skilar, thx for the video... it says on your channel main page that you study in Paris. Is that the kind of chant donné practice that they do at the conservatory? You mentioned the Raynaud treatise in the info box as well, that made me curious. Is a string quartet realisation the go-to-model of some sorts? Happy about a reply! :D
Exactly, we do these in Écriture classes. String quartets are the most common model, but sometimes we do melody with piano accompaniment.

@@skylarlimex it's Skylar, sorry :DDD I see, thx for reply. And then you get an 12 hour long exam?
bro what should i learn first if i want to understand this? i am intrested in composing classical music
probably music theory
Learning to play an instrument is a good way to get roped in all of this.
Depends where you're at in your journey. I always begin basic counterpoint and harmony with my students.
@skylarlimex could you consider me for a student, i have yet to find a composition teacher, i have a basic grade 5 music and have done rearrangments for 3 years and is based in singapore. Thank you

Is there any public playlist to at least makes me capable to read and understand the intense element of classic music from it's passage? I want some if you have it in your mind, please
Thanks so much for this video! I always enjoy seeing the process that you take with harmonisation. Out of curiosity, where do you think would be the best place to learn more about harmonisation, counterpoint etc?
Best with a qualified teacher, if not find some books on the subject.
Not sure I like the sus4 with the dominant seven.
Hey I wrote your part 1-3 Harmonization video into a Musescore video. Is that okay? If not I'll delete it.
I gave you full credit btw.
Sure!
Check out how I harmonized it on my channel 🙂
is it weird that I prefer the first simpler option?
No
The fact that it lists a String quartet and sounds like a piano fucked me up 😢
Otherwise amazing tutorial
