The best part of this video is that you acknowledged the guys in the video that helped with the install. As a former bricklayer of 20 years, I can attest that the guys and gals that actually did the grunt work on any project rarely get recognition. Thank you guys from Alaska!!
Why wait until rain surface water or saturated yard water or gutter down spout water finds it way under foundation into crawl space before pumping it away from foundation outside house to distant drain. A simple pipe drain from crawl space to buried in outside pit pump would handle any pipe leak which has never occurred under my 1974 built house. I put my pump in outside pit at crawl space entrance, and it is easy to service, easy to check ground water level with simple float stick on a ball in pit. Water is drained B4 it goes under foundation into crawl space Has served me well for 6 years now. Don’t have to go under house in crawl in wet soup if a failure would occur. Just raise crawl space pit lid, swap pumps and all is ok ! In Indiana and 30 inch pit depth with another 22 inches of sump pit at bottom edge of crawl space entry pit keeps pump well below frost freeze level! No water standing under house any more!
You are now spot on about my house. Almost exact. In the job you just showed. How is the trench in relation to footer as to level? Did you put holes in the flat bottom of tank?🦇
Chuck I love your videos. You and guys work like a well-oiled machine. I know this video is 8 years old but I figured I reach out anyway. Hopefully you will answer a few of my questions. With the basin that youinstalledl in the pit, can you put more then one perforated pipe into it. I'm looking to try and do this with my brother in his crawl space. And it seems like water is pooling in different parts of the crawl space. How far down do you put the perforated pipe? And we're out of upstate New York. What do you use for a rocky terrain, to dig, It's not easy dirt to dig, every step of the way, there's rocks. Hopefully, you could answer a few of my questions. Thank you, chuck
Thank you for the videos. This gave me the confidence to install my own sump pump in my crawl space. What do you do if you hit hard clay soil? I am in NC and hit hard clay about 14 inches down. Any tricks to finish the rest of the dig?
I live on a hillside, not the top and not the bottom of the hill. So...water passes under/through my house. I have a sloped unfinished crawlspace where the foundation support pillars are located. I have loose gravel covering the whole space. However the gravel is ALWAYS wet, and the air always feels damp. Should I go install just the sump pump in the lowest point or do I also do a French drain?
Some sump basins are perforated and some aren't. If not perforated, water will only enter the basin from the collection pipe. The weight of the pump and the water up to the float valve may keep the basin from floating when the basement is wet. Does anyone have recommendations whether to perforate or not?
I am definitely not a professional, but I would say if you have ground water coming up then use a perforated basin or perforate it yourself. If you only have surface water then just use solid bottom. Dig a hole for the basin regardless and see if you get water come up from the ground.
If I'm not mistaken in doing this, in my install with bring the plastic and tuck/tape it inside of the lid, then put the lid on. It keeps a complete seal but also allows the sump pump setup to be accessed for repairs or maintenance.

Instead of boring through 12 inches of wall, why don't you drill through what appears to be a black colored vent above where you bored through the wall?

New homeowner here feeling like we're facing down a mountain of repair work. Thanks for the helpful video and bit of inspiration.
I know the feeling but stay encouraged, it’ll come together little at a time 🙏🏽
Same, I just received an outrageous quote. And this video is giving me hope
My crawlspace is so tight I hit my butt on the floor joists. Looking at that one makes me very jealous.

"With the arrow pointing upward, heh, heh, heh" My father was a carpenter and this reminds of him. Thanks for the happy memory 👍🏽🙂😊
In northern climates always maintain a little fall on the horizontal discharge going out thru foundation
I like Chuck’s videos because he explains everything so well. I learn a lot and it’s very relaxing
No gloves no knee pads no protection for his lungs..this guy is the real deal!!
No OSHA, no health insurance, no workman’s comp, just hard work, grit, and a good attitude
Great video Chuck, gave me confidence to tackle my crawl space sump.
Good job Chuck & Team.
I learned lots from your Video. I checked my bsmt last night & was dry. Time to do some digging...Thnk U all

Thank you for your amazing content. I dont even need drains and I find myself watching over snd over

another good video.
Very complete explanations and video throughout not just when your done, thanks. What kind of pipe are you using under the gravel?

Had the same problem. Get a post hole digger and with lots of hard work you’ll get through it.
Do you put the rocks underneath the sump basin as well as the sides?
No fabric cloth or drain sock?
I like using sweep elbow 90's instead of regular 90's less pipe friction and faster flow. You should too.
Thats crazy we are in the same area!!
Awesome job
So no fabric around pipe like on the outside?
you did not mention the vent hole that needs to be made on the rizer pipe to stop freezing. only a haft a story for what you need to know
Why do you put the check so high instead right at the pump?
thank u like your jab
Do you ever have to deal with iron ocher if so how does it change your design?

what kind of pipe in the ground was that? weeping tile?
do I need second pipe for radon gas going out?
How much does something like this go far with parts/labor?
Do you put a small layer of gravel under the pipe before you lay it down? You make some awesome videos!

What is a quality drain pipe brand (not your big box store pipe

My pump keeps burning out every two years and I got to climb under to replace it is there any solution for that
When laying the vapor back down, do you also cover the basin with vapor barrier?

Thanks sooo much!!
Surprised you didn't put gravel around the basin, and then also surprise you didn't take the drainage pipe farther away from the house.
Anybody have an idea of the cost of this job?

where you getting that basin at,does it have to have the holes in it?
If it doesn’t have holes it will float or want to pop out of the hole.
Where is the sleeve through the wall

Would look hokey and be higher than necessary
Bravo
I thought you weren't supposed to drill holes in the bottom of the basin (???)
Drill enough holes in the botom and you wont need the pump
