  • Have you watched the movie 13 Hours, starring John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Pablo Schreiber, Max Martini, and Tony Stephens? It is based on the 2012 Benghazi attacks, assaults on a U.S. diplomatic compound and a nearby CIA annex in the city of Benghazi, Libya, on September 11-12, 2012, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya - the first violent death of a U.S. ambassador since 1988. The incident sparked controversy and ignited a political firestorm in the United States. Bob "Ninja" Poras describes in detail how the GRS operators did the best they could with the hand they were dealt.

Kris Paranto has said in multiple speeches that the militia that they thought ran away after the incoming mortars actually went and found the mortar crew and took them out. He has also said that points in the fight he had random libians in office attire taking a knee next to him engaging the attackers. It was Gidaffe's troops who ultimately came to their rescue also stated by kris.

The situation with the militia groups in Benghazi sound just like medieval to classical period armies just turning on each other and switching sides for the highest bidder and profit.
Something that modern western armies, especially US, are not familiar with.

In all honesty, after reading the books and watching the movie, the movie itself is one of my absolute favorites of all time because the key thing I took from it, and the reason I watch it over and over again, is because it is a great story about how a small group of like-minded people can work together in extreme circumstances and do extraordinary things. So many obstacles were stacked against these guys, yet they overcame all of them together. It is terrible the loss of the ambassador Chris Stevens, the IT man Sean Smith, contract operators Glen Doherty, and Tyrone "Rone" Woods, and the other casualties. But they worked together, took care of each other, and fulfilled their purpose to serve and protect.

With all due respect Americans are not the only ones that have "fighting spirit", pretty easy to point to history for that. The problem is it's easy for us to say "why are they not fighting?" when we don't have to live there after the dust settles. It's like people who act like they wouldn't be slaves. As if the problem was just the lack of "fighting spirit". I'm sure some of the militia knew if they fought (win or lose) their families likely would be killed, home destroyed, etc. Yes, the problem was the gamble on these type of people, knowing the position they are likely to be in if something goes down.

The essence of that dynamic between an outsider organization [ U.S. State Dept./ CIA/ other western org. ] and local militias has been experienced and understood for decades. Bottom line, as I see it, is that American lives are expendable if you're sitting at a comfortable desk a few thousand or more miles away and you have another interest to placate. Just ask the Russian troops that got run out of Afghanistan.

I came to the same conclusion in looking at the conflicts we've been involved in the Middle East. America is always going to be stuck behind the 8-ball in this region because we seem to never understand that no matter what good we try to do in regions of conflict, we're always the outsider. We've seen it time and time again. I don't know how you can even call the Benghazi effort a 'diplomatic mission' when there were no established power structures in that country at all after Khaddafi fell from power. I know that's part of the gamble to help one faction gain power in expectation of a return on some investment but when it goes bad, it goes very bad.

Felt bad for the Kurds though; gassed by Saddam in the 80's, overlooked by us during the war in Iraq, abandoned by trump so he could continue his favortism to Turkey/Russia--leaving Kurds to get attacked/bombed without our support.
I went up to the Kurdish area of Iraq for 4-day pass in my year deployed to Tikrit nearly 20 years ago now. The resort was one of Saddam's old ones in Northern Iraq. It was then run by Kurds and used mostly for 4-day passes for military deployed in Iraq. In the resort though, the Kurds had a big map of that area of Iraq but their area clearly bordered and labeled as Kurdistan. They're still waiting for their own country after all these years. No, they did plenty... who do you think gave 3 stand down orders and on the 3rd, relieved a 4 star of his command, took him into custody for observation and then sent a team to a certain aircraft carrier and relieved an Admiral of his command and placed him into custody for observation confining him to his quarters....

The point of the movie isn't to deny that those men did amazing things and no body was complaining. The point is that they shouldn't have been left alone. They should have had U.S. support. They shouldn't have had to beg the locals for help which they knew they weren't going to get. You sir are the type of men that are destroying this country.

    • @chrisburke624
      @chrisburke624 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Straight up, he doesn't.
Its hard to see the benefit in connecting those dots, because you're right - those dots don't really connect.
In other countries it can make sense tho. A trade agreement with country X may allow that farmer to ship more of his product & hence expand his business. Or he might be able to get what he needs for his product cheaper.
In Benghazi, the embassy might not benefit the farmer in Iowa directly. But it could benefit the US as a whole with oil exports or imports, or gaining mining contracts for rare metals, or making sure terrorism doesn't take too much of a root there.
But I agree with you. There aren't many Americans living there, so embassy services are pretty much wasted because they serve no one, and the rest could be done via visits & phone calls... 🤷‍♂️

Even when their local security run and left the americans alone their orders from the higher ups were to get in contact with the local militia that just fled their position to come back and fight to evacuate the ambassador.

Throughout the movie you see them yelling out instructions but not to amongst themselves. The instructions were for the state guys or cia agents . That speaks volumes about their professionalism. In CIA ground branch there’s blue badge wearers who actually are paid CIA employees and Branch guys
The Branch guys often know less then they think even with their compartmentalized clearances. They’re all ex Spec ops from all branches. They’re taking orders from CIA officers moving assets (who are paid by USA) into combat against tribes or groups who won’t play ball with us. These locals can be a bad guy one week and for right price “good guys” couple weeks later. I said “moving” or “supervising” into combat they’re supposed to stay a certain distance from target and let the locals they’ve trained hit the target supervising air, actions on obj, comms yada yada although a lot don’t. A good buddy and former teammate of mine survived a brain shot getting too far into final assault on a target while in Ground Branch. In reality they have no idea what the overall gameplan is only the incompetent politically owned paid off compromised over educated (Full of Ivy League) idiots running the CIA know the true plan which they’ve proven time and time again to fuck up. You are not defending the USA working for them that ship sailed in Vietnam. You are battlefield shaping for NWO.
