I work in a fragrance store and we only have a fountain for mugler, but we stock much more at home refills. The only problem is so many people don't know some fragrances are refillable and that you can do the refill yourself. Everytime I explain it to them they get so confused, especially when its a gift. They get thrown off because they arent rebuying the bottle, it feels like they think im lying to them for some reason 😂 I'm trying to help you save money!

This was because he didn't want a drink, despite it being free. He wanted a specific order and if I filled it in just as he wanted he would have spent more money than a special we had and got less stuff. So not only did he get a free drink, but a free cookie and biscuit basically. I got more stories but this is what is on the top of my head.

Also I don't know who in public might have allergies or asthma or sensory issues so wouldn't want to reapply in a public space. Are you considering the supply chain of the actual product, or just the recyclability of the packaging? While there are more synthetic ingredients than before, the "natural" ingredients used in perfumes (e.g. essential oils) are really resource-intensive.

As I known, Mugler & Caron is the one that still had their perfume mainly refillable and most had fountain in their stores. Guerlain does it to, but only on their Paris main store as I remember. but L'oreal does start make perfume fountain as well, but not for all their brand line up, like only some YSL & Lancome perfume is refillable. L'oreal brand that truly does fountain is Mugler as it is way to respect Thierry Mugler wish to make his perfume refillable, which is since Angle launched.
I love this perfume refill in my city which costs like $10 a bottle but refills for $6 a bottle . That is still a saving considering their bottles are beautiful and their scents lasts all day.
I would like to add to reasons why at home refills are better for some people: I live walking distance and public transport distance to a few pefume places but I have such severe agoraphobia that I can rarely leave my apartment and I usually can't go more than a few blocks away before I break down
I feel like there are more important products to focus time/energy/resources on. There are probably a million different products that are more polluting than perfume…corporations need to start by focusing on the things that actually matter

However, to your point, when we zoom out and look at the environmental impact of other industries, like construction and food, we can see they have a far greater environmental impact than the cosmetic industry. Now of course, I think we as an industry should aim to reduce our environmental impact, however I do feel like the sustainability scrutiny the cosmetic industry is under is not applied equally to other industries that ultimately have a heavier environmental burden😕

Yes, in-store refills will still have some form of packaging, however this packaging tends to be far lighter and smaller than consumer perfume packaging, so it still helps reduce the amount of packaging waste (although in-store refill systems vary by store/brand, the Mugler refills stations in theory utilize lead packaging than the Penhaligon one)

Why would the alcohol content mean it needs to be in a glass bottle? That makes no sense. They sell pure alcohol in plastic jugs, like for scientific purposes like making perfume. If anything, wouldn't it be more for the scent oils that would benefit from glass over plastic?
