    Great review, you rated the Judy at right about where I expected it. Aside from weight, there's always going to be some subjectivity, but probably none as much as in "look and feel." What's cool to one might be fugly to another. Also, plastics range in quality, and if properly spec'd, might look cheap but are reasonably durable. It'd be interesting if you compared two total count columns, one with "look and feel" factored in (the overall) and the other without (just the performance).

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks man! Ok, so we were actually talking about this the other day and this was our conclusion. Every rating we give is our opinion from the looks to the performance. Our purpose of our channel is to give people a glimpse into our relationship as well as share our thoughts and feelings about mountain biking on a budget. If we were to separate our ratings it would in our opinion diminish the unique perspective that we provide. Example the RockShox Judy fork has good smooth action but a horrible rebound adjustment feel, therefor the operation of the fork takes a slight hit from bad user adjust ability and feel.
      We understand that the way we do things is frustrating to some, but trust me it is a little more thought out than it appears😜. I believe that we have provided all of the individual category ratings on all of the forks so if you want to rank them by purely performance categorys we would love to hear about the findings😋. Hope this helps-John

  • @sim_dude
    @sim_dude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    hi guys, for the judy, you should try 85PSI with the rebound completely open (toward the rabbit). when you add more air pressure, you need to slow it down and i think you did the opposite if i got that right.
    also having a tune for the trail and a different one for the jumps is completely normal, i have a different setup if i go trail or bikepark.
    Also, messing with only one parameter at a time would help you narrow it down. (i'm running 85psi in my recon full open and put 1click toward slow when at 90). Also a lack of lockout sometimes means it missing oil in the dampner and the fork would need a service but on a new fork idk man.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well thank you for the rundown, we will see how they play out and can I add oil?? Like without tearing down completely? Thanks and hope to see you on the next video coming out 8pm!!SCHWINN ASCENSION BABY!!

    • @sim_dude
      @sim_dude 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS just woke up with your new video. Usually kev central is the first to cover interesting schwinn bikes but you beat him to it. As for the oil, technically yes (remove the air and unescrew the right top side, remove the dampner and there is the oil bath) but i wouldn't do that as to perform properly the dampner need a specific amount of oil. Putting too much will lower the availible travel and reduce proper dampning. So unless you remove all of it and put the correct amount back in, i wouldn't touch that. (At least it works this way on rockshox motion dampner like in the recon, i believe the tk one is super similar).

    I recommend using the Rockshox Trailhead App if you have any RS fork. You enter the serial number, type of bike ( Mtn or Ebike), and your weight. It gives you the recommended pressure and rebound setting, great for a starting point. I used it for my RS 35 Gold RL and it was spot on for 25% sag. I rode it at that initial setting for the first 6 rides to allow it to somewhat break in. Afterwards I adjusted the pressure and rebound gradually to my liking, I went with a bit less pressure for more sag (closer to 30%) and one less click of rebound because I prefer a bit softer fork travel.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the lockout. What I noticed with my ENIX was that out-of-the-box the lockout was not very functional ,,, but after the first ride it worked as expected: a few mm of give (soaks some vibration), then solid.

    One thing to consider when rating these forks is the ease of ability to find the necessary parts to service the fork. Rockshox service kits are easy to find. Some of these others don't even have that option.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well we don't recommend things, so this is one of those the buyer needs to do their homework situations. This subject would be something for another kind of ratings or segment.
      When rating the forks we rate them based on our own opinions and what we think about the performance of the fork in the categorys that we rate them on. We don't consider things like rebuild-ability or long term performance in our ratings system for a number of reasons, most of which is we currently have about 11 forks and it would be impossible to test for any long-term reliability issues. The official Wolftick rating system is 100% intended for entertainment purposes only along with just about every other thing we do.
      Maybe in the future we will consider a segment on what forks you can get parts for. Thanks for the comment, we hope this explains our reasoning at least a little😂.

    Solid review guys! Had a feeling it might come in either below or above the Suntour. I was really close to buying the Epixon but I was the told the OEM/cannibalized parts inside some of the ebay listings can be a roll of the dice in the long-run. Probably personal preference/bias, though. If X-fusion made a sub-$200 fork for a 29", I'd be all over that.
    Either way, great to see the Judy finally on the board. I have the 29" wheel version on 2.4" tubeless tires so I wonder if that makes a difference, compared to your experience. I'm one click off of fast with 160-170 PSI (I'm 6'5") and never seem to blow through the travel like you were, but there are so many variables to consider. A few local shops here have passed on a rumor that Rockshox brought back the Judy name to potentially phase out the Recon so that might explain some of the cheaper features.
    As always, keep up the great work!

    I just bought a GT Agressor Pro used but it’s basically new. It came with deity saddle, pedals and lockjaw grips. All great stuff. I put a new headset and a 720mm handlebar on it so far. I am in love with this bike. It’s an xl frame and since I’m 6’3 200 lbs, it’s fitting like a glove. I want to do the 1x setup and a million other upgrades. I have a friend that is a mobile bike mechanic and he works for a huge company. I would like to know an opinion from anyone that can tell me what’s the best fork upgrade that will fit this bike for under $300. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I LOVE this Chanel. that lockout seems to be defective on the rockshhox fork. usually lock out on Rockshox lock out stiffens the fork up but allow it the oil to blow off, so fork to compress on hard impact, that one does not seem to do that, or the dial might be assembled wrong so it does not fully change the compression to fully lucked, but as I mentioned it's not a complete lockout, that could damage the fork, they have a blow off built into it.
    so not like on mechanical lock outs where you turn the dial and thus turning a a key to lock it. this fork has a hydraulic lockout, which has a tube that gets gets the openings covered more as you turn it, but once you hit a curb they should compress.
    So unless they did something different with this damper, that's how it always worked.
    I think it probably is defective or installed wrong, so you should contact the retailer and as for a warranty replacement.
    but they might have made the damper too sensitive to bumps in the locked out position, so might not work for heavy rider.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

      I think once it has time to circulate some oil t will work just fine with dad on it:) Looking at adding a damper to it I found one for like $75??

      @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS time to circulate? I don't know wha tyou mean if you mean lubricanting oil in lowers at the bottom of the fork Tha that's nothing to do with the damper other than lubricating the fork, but the oil inside the damper should be there and move thronthe ports, which the lock out closes off.

    so basically you need volume reduction, so need to use tokens(what rockshox calls air chamber volume reducing spacers) but I don't know if that fork has that feature, some cheaper models don't, so some people but wine cork in theirs, or 3d print their own. but optimally you want it to be secure and not come loose, but even rockshox tokens can come loose, they did on Single Track Sample's enduro bike, so it made clack clack clack sound. cus they got unthreaded, but he did big jumps, rode hard, so not surprising. also make sure to regularly check the top caps on the forks, they can get loose too, even on a xc bike.
    So that's why they should have some Loctite on them. but you should regularly check them.
    I am writing from experience.
    but as the dad mentioned you should have made sure rebound damping setting was set properly.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I really should have, now there is or is not a damper? I thought a damper was an overall adjustment you could make to the compression knob/lockout? Im confused....

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS a damper is the thing on the right, Tha that's compression or/and lockout and rebound, a damper is not the adjustment it self but the actual damper unit. Damping, is a wha the damper does, rebound damping, compression damping, on high end forks you can see a fast, low speed adjustment for both. not to be confused with ampening making something wet 😁

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS you are confusing damping adjustments with a damper, but this is a budget dmaper so only has basic lockout and rebound adjustment, my fork has fast and slow rebound adjustment, fast and slow compress ion damping which dampens the fork compressing at high and slow speed hits. Man a tore up shinn, I was actually jumping at hot springs and not while jumping but on the way up my foot slipped and the pedal drove about 8inches top to bottom and dug all the way to the bone. Nasty scar and needed stitches😉 That's it so far

    A lil heavy, not terrible.. no jumps near here... but seems like it'll "soak" up anything on the ground ... rough gravel/dirt trails would be a breeze...

    It’s actually 100mm in order to get 120 you have to convert them first. These forks are not meant for big jumps either.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm......well in the initial impressions we measure everything and the stanchions measure to be 120mm and we used every bit, so maybe these did come with the full 120. As for the jumping department we always take them to the jumps, just to get a good all around idea for people. Thanks for watching brother!

    Thats weird that should deff fully lock out you might want to contact rock shox. i have never seen them not lock out lol and yeah they are kinda heavy i replaced my rock shox recon with the fox 36 and its night and day difference. Also for most rock shox forks i always run 5-10lbs more than they recommend and that key wont fall out and if it does u can always use a small allen key lol

    Epixon vs judy?

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well we did reviews on both, and you see were we ranked them, so the real question is which one do you think you will go with? Two things to remember are the Judy's are about $20 dollars cheaper and a 9mm qr for $169 vs the Epixon's 15mm thru axle at $190ish. They are both good forks. Let us know what you decide.👍

    I did research comparison of the Judy vs the Epixon before settling on the Epixon so I agree with these results. Also, the TK is a turnkey damper, not quite a full lockout. The damper is a let off also so that's probably why it doesn't quite lockout.

    You need a proper dirt jump bike. The BB is too far from the back axel on xc bikes and it makes them too front heavy.
