  • In this video our host David Taylor, aka, Mr Pelargonium, walks us through taking some of the more difficult cuttings of pelargonium types which include Regals and Scented leaf varieties that throw separate growth and flower stems.

Hi. I just found your channel and am slowly going through all your videos. Thank you very much for giving us such valuable info.
I live in the US and am finding it difficult to impossible to purchase any unique breeds that are available in Europe and Australia. I have searched suppliers but so far nothing. Can you help in this area?

Sorry, not really. The only supplier of pelargoniums that I know of in the US is based in Marin county, CA, she's an Aussie ex pat. Her website is geraniaceae.com.

Hi, such an informative post, really helpful, thank you. I was under the impression one doesn’t use rooting powder with any type of Pelly cutting, now I know better should I treat cuttings of Frank Headley as zonal, eg no rooting powder?

      @@charlieuliginosa2494 Yes absolutely, it’s a bi-coloured zonal.

Hi David, can you cut into the woody stems to shape and take cuttings from scented and unique pelles ?

@@FrancesHirons Yes you can cut down very hard if you want to, Regals and scenteds can re- break from quite hard wood. I’m just being a bit cautious with my show plants this year due to a lack of growth density in the spring due to poor light over the last couple of years. However moving will alter the situation somewhat. You cannot use hard wood for cuttings although what we call semi-ripe is okay and can produce better plants. D

Is it possible to propagate scented Pelargoniums by leaf cuttings? I’ve heard of it with P. odoratissimum but with no instructions.

@@janecurtis5726 Hi Jane, It may be possible but it’s something I’ve never tried mainly because I don’t generally grown species pelargonium. It is part of the Reniforme group which have basal root blocks almost like corms which would perhaps explain why a cutting or leaf split from the base would root but as I say I don’t get involved with these types.
