Thanks for this short, thorough and well explained movie. I'm currently night plugging on Island Beach State park in South Jersey. It's a sand eel bite. Pencil popper next order of business. Thanks for the instruction.😁
Great tutorial. I never would have figured that out. Really different from a regular popper. Also I'm guessing this is very popular technique for the lady anglers as it's more finesse than brute strength. Yes there's a double entendre in there somewhere 😁
Also, notice after he threw plug into water before cranking reel slow and gently shaking rod to cause the correct action he did turn the reel 5 complete revolutions around to take out slack. You don't want slack in line when trying to execute correct action of plug dancing and splashing water 😊
I like a faster action rod that is 9 foot 1/2 to 3 ounces because it covers the high and low end of the pencil popper weight that I use. Having a 9 foot rod makes it easier to be more deliberate with the action.
I normally use a 10 ' or 11' medium moderate rod. I like the distance they send the poppers because the longer the distance the more chances of getting a hit. Where I fish it's definitely a plus to have a longer rod.
@@StripedBassHunt thanks man. I'm trying. Might be silly but I look at this like drumming. How the heck can those guys keep so many different beats at once? Tough. Will get it eventually.
that bail-less reel is sweet!

A video about how you did those really hard and long jerks on the shad-swimmer would be very informative.
