    Oh, I hope you got them all out! Those scales don’t work as fast as mealies but they leave an unsightly scar on the plant. 👍🏼

    Even easier is using Bonide's sulfur pest/fungicide powder mixed with water in a pesticide sprayer, I let is completely dry over night and literally they wipe clean off with a dry paper towel!! It's insane how good that stuff is, it literally has killed every single pest I've encountered! Even thrips!! I noticed it can take about 48hrs. For thrips but they're completely gone after one time use, I do a heavy mixture with the sulfur to ensure it kills everything, PLUS IT DOES NOT DAMAGE FARIMA!! I'm sure you already use this since you're a Queen with desert plants but rubbing alcohol ruined my farima, and neem was even worse, it made all my succulents a horrible green tone and more than destroyed her farima. Love you and your channel!

      @@gazepskotzs4 - I worked for many years in the oldest Nursery here in Alaska and one of the vast number of things I learned was if there’s a pest ON your plant the probability of it also being in the soil is high and especially if you find yourself re-treating a plant because of course it keeps coming back. We never had scale on anything at Anne’s and after seeing Lynn dealing w it I’m soooooo glad we didn’t lol

    • @desertplantsofavalon

      Hi William, I think that these spots could be rust spots, they often form on Opuntia's due to a change in their environment, it can be caused from high humidity or even when we bring plants from inside to outside,or by getting spiked by other cacti, luckily its harmless and more of an aesthetic problem, if they are sunken in the cactus and not raised then I am pretty sure that these are harmless rust looking spots that are more of an aesthetic problem, if they seem to be spreading more then you could treat the cactus with a systemic fungicidal spray just to be on the safe side, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    Mine aren’t melting away and one of the bumps are black. I only have 7 white bumps. I copied what you did and I think I might have a different bug. Do you know what my cactus might have? Thank you, you’re awesome

      Hi there, I think the black bump and the white bumps are due to natural corkiness, Opuntia's are very prone to corking and they often produce these little round scaly bumps, the good news is that its harmless and more of an aesthetic problem, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    Scale killed so many of my beautiful succulents. They especially love my Hawarthias, got all the way down into the roots. I wish I had thought of this, I was spraying the alcohol on the scale and it wasn't enough.

    What would you do if you have scale on a cactus with long wrapped around spines? Like a mammillaria pringelei? I can't remember if I posted this question on one of your other videos. So I apologize if I already have. I'm just trying to figure out what to do. I hope that it isn't going to just be a total loss. This is one of my very first cactus that I got when I first got started with cacti and succulents. It's a favorite of mine. It's just that those spines are so long, I can't actually get to them. It's a beautiful cactus. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you in advance Lyn!

      Hi Bennie :-D the good news is that Scale on cacti that have tight or very long spines like the Mammillaria's and the Echinocereus Rainbow type of cacti is that react really well to Diatomaceous earth, I had a terrible case of both Scale and mealy bug on my Echinocereus rainbow cactus, and the bugs were impossible to reach with a brush as the spines were so tightly woven, I bought some Diatomaceous earth and used a powder puff to puff the powder in between the spines, and although the cactus was covered in white powder the diatomaceous earth killed all the scale and mealies, I left the powder on for about a week and then turned the cactus upside down and blasted it with a water spray pump jet to wash off all the powder and the pests had all gone, the diatomaceous earth is harmless to plants and animals and humans too, and safe for Bees, I can definitely recommend the diatomaceous earth, thanks so much Bennie for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Friday XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon

      Hi there :-D if you want to get more fruits on your cactus you can try to self pollinate the flowers yourself by using a little brush to put the pollen from the flowers onto the stigma of the blooms, I have quite a few videos on how to pollinate different types of cactus flowers on my channel on my playlists, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Duncan :-D this cactus was a new purchase but I never noticed any scale on it at first but the scale appeared quite quickly after about a month of getting it, thankfully it was easy to treat and this Opuntia is looking great now, Scale can spread pretty fast and the scales always seem to love to hide on the sides of the cactus facing away from us haha, but the rubbing alcohol melts them away, I like to treat with neem oil every month to prevent any of them from coming back again, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Tuesday today XXXX

      Hi Alex :-D Scale insect is such an annoying pest, and I find I have to keep removing them every 4-6 weeks, the rubbing alcohol works well and keeps them under control but these scales have a habit of sneaking back onto our plants, I would recommend going over with the alcohol every month to keep the scales at bay as much as possible, its immediate when the alcohol removes the scales on contact but I find that its definitely a pest that never seems to completely go away, HAPPY NEW YEAR and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a brilliant 2024 XXXX
