Don't Waste your time making a drill with non appropriated steel. Showing us that is drilling 'through aluminum' but doesn't show the multiple sharpening.

Shows what you can do with what's on hand. I didn't realize that rebar could be hardened. What kind of salt was used in the quenching process? Was it ordinary table salt? Na Cl ? Amazing!

At a minimum, drills are made of high-speed high-carbon steel. Here in the video the creation process is interesting, but it will not be practical. Made from a piece of construction reinforcement, the simplest and cheapest steel. Even with the proper degree of hardening, it will provide sufficient hardness of approximately 55-56 HRC, but it can only be used to drill simple iron, and even then not for long. I highly doubt that this drill will drill through steel sheet. Although, of course, it will be useful for drilling wood.

Salt hastens the quenching process, which results in an increased hardness. In the interest of full disclosure, rebar comes in grades and this is likely made from from one of the stronger grades that has more carbon, making it possible to simply salt water quench and get the level of hardness needed for a cutting tool to be used on mild steel. Our friend is always showing us you can do what’s needed. You just gotta wanna...
@@ThisIsToolmanI'll take your word for it. if I were a more suspicious person I would say it doesn't make sense that there would be enough carbon in any rebar to be able to harden it. Furthermore, the plate he sticks to the magnet appears to be a quarter inch steel and the hole he drills appears to be on half inch aluminum. But I'm not sure why he would need to deceive anybody about this so so draw your own conclusions. I'm still suspicious that you can harden rebar except for surface hardening by adding carbon to the outer layer.

@@virtualmarc2383 ASTM A615 Grade 100 rebar has a carbon content of 0.30-0.40%. Other standards in other countries may stipulate grading which could include more or less carbon of course. We don’t know what the standard might be for this Malaysian rebar.
I think if I were making this special size drill I would probably grind the point before hardening it, and then come back and touch it up, so as to take full advantage of the case depth.
A fine point (no pun intended), twist drills have a very slight reverse taper to alleviate rubbing.
You drilled Aluminium not steel. Why would you want to deceive viewers by testing with magnet then switching to aluminium. What steel chips like that?

Арматура делается из отходов,знаю на своем примере,начал резать ножовкой по металлу не берет,посыпались зубья,отступил один сантиметр и как масло перерезал,так что в арматуре сплавлен и чугун и сталь,вообщем разные металлы

You can't harden low carbon steel very much.
rebar may have enough carbon to harden a bit . that is why you don't weld regular rebar

Сам процесс возможно и не знаком многим. Но я увидел три нарушения правил техники безопасности. 1) Наждак без подручника.2) Баночка мала и стоит рядом с ногой. И 3) работник в босоножках. Вот и получается, что вреда в его материале больше, чем пользы. Модераторам хорошо бы отсеивать вредоносные методы работы.

50 раз точил сверло. В арматуре нет углерода, поэтому это назьмо сыромятина и закалить не получится. Если только цементация, но чебуреки не знают что это 😁😁😁
