Terraria's most popular mods add way more awesome stuff than any of Minecraft's mods but there are only like 7 really good ones like that. Minecraft mods don't tend to be as good individually, but there are way more good Minecraft mods that you can combine in different ways to make an infinite number of different playing experiences with. I think they're both even, but also a tradeoff in their own ways.
minecraft mods tend to be made to be played in massive modpacks, the only exceptions are advent of ascension and divine rpg just cause they’re so massive and add so much but even then they are still put into modpacks
i hate the "massive modpack" fanbase so much i always have more fun adding mods i want even if they have no integration most fun i've had was when i made a multiplayer server with minecolonies and a bunch of magic mods we all made our cities and destroyed the map the last day and it was all worth it seeing the destruction and all the guards getting one shot
@@somo4227 I mean putting together a modpack is kinda tough if you want integrated compatibility because that's all on you. Most non-modpack related patches only exist to solve the problems between two mods, not two hundred. Having to use recipetweaker/contenttweaker and actually make your own configs and patches after you already played far enough into the game to have discovered there was an issue, overlap, or clash in your modpack, and then adjusting as you go is its own experience; but by the time you actually finish making the modpack, you already know everything that's in it, because you (scuffed as the experience was) played through it all already. That's why prebuilt modpacks are popular, since they offer a cohesive playthrough you can experience for the first time. When I do custom modpacks, I usually just rip a small modpack off the internet that has a lot of the mods pertaining to the type of experience I want, already configured and tweaked to work together, then I add a lot of the personal flavour through additional mods which are very solid standalone experiences which can still enhance the overall playthrough, and alter config files where I predict there to be issues, overlaps, or clashes.
minecraft: oh i see you have explored a lot of places, and now you have to fight a dragon that can throw you in the air, it hurts a lot so watch out terraria: kill slime, kill eye, kill brain, kill skeleton, kill flesh wall, kill robots, kill plants, kill everything, kill supreme beings, kill demigods, kill gods, kill the entire fkin universe
As true as this is, in general the modding community for both games are far too different to be comparable. Minecraft certainly lacks things that Terraria has but the same applies the other way around. I play Terraria to get my ass handed to me by bosses and I play Minecraft to fry my brain over how a specific machine works.

I feel the main issue for minecraft modding is that there is no proper guide that can be found, no way to know in what direction your supposed to go (progression ofc). So, I think minecraft mods are still pretty damn cool, but there needs to be a way to get to a guide without reading a 100 paragraph essay to understand even the basics. While terraria has that type of feature that makes the game more straight forward and all you need to do is look at images. THE GOD FORSAKEN WIKI IS MOSTLY IMAGES, AND I STILL UNDERSTAND THE GAME!
thats because terraria has an offical fanmade DLC called Tmodloader that they happily accepted
still. does not change the fact that mc needs one, plus tmodloader is not an official fan made "DLC" the dev of terraria didn't do anything about TMod because they saw people coming back to terraria, so ofc they would want to keep the mod devs of TMod around. On Minecraft's hand though, they do not give a single care in the world for mods. Plus someone else mentioned in the comments that Java is a pain to code, yet the only thing they need is a literal guide. Your point is far from correct my good sir.

I think they're both even, but also a tradeoff in their own ways.
terraria also has a ton of good small mods, but a lot of them really suffer because of cross-imcompability
minecraft mods tend to be made to be played in massive modpacks, the only exceptions are advent of ascension and divine rpg just cause they’re so massive and add so much but even then they are still put into modpacks
i hate the "massive modpack" fanbase so much i always have more fun adding mods i want even if they have no integration
most fun i've had was when i made a multiplayer server with minecolonies and a bunch of magic mods
we all made our cities and destroyed the map the last day and it was all worth it seeing the destruction and all the guards getting one shot
When I do custom modpacks, I usually just rip a small modpack off the internet that has a lot of the mods pertaining to the type of experience I want, already configured and tweaked to work together, then I add a lot of the personal flavour through additional mods which are very solid standalone experiences which can still enhance the overall playthrough, and alter config files where I predict there to be issues, overlaps, or clashes.
in modded Terraria, "The gods of this world beckon after"
in modded Minecraft, "You are bound to create"
The difference is in Terraria you break your fingers doging them meanwhile minecraft you spam potions to tank them.
minecraft: oh i see you have explored a lot of places, and now you have to fight a dragon that can throw you in the air, it hurts a lot so watch out
terraria: kill slime, kill eye, kill brain, kill skeleton, kill flesh wall, kill robots, kill plants, kill everything, kill supreme beings, kill demigods, kill gods, kill the entire fkin universe
