      NL : misleading information
      In fact, all Indonesians at that time were in dire situation. Chinese were not the only victims. Maduranese, Ambonese, Dayaknese etc were killed in even greater numbers than Chinese.
      The foreign media, especially Singaporean and Malaysian, then blowed things out of proportion as if it was only Chinese who suffered. Their treatments towards us Indonesians back then created the stigma that lasts until today.

      Tom Hua Well then how about 1965 one?Millions of Chinese were killed after Suharto took the power because all Chinese Indonesians were considered Communists…Sad country…Chinese brought up the economy of Indonesia but Indonesian government treated them like trash,they banned all of the Chinese culture,Chinese Indonesian political rights,and even Chinese Indonesian nationality before Suharto left the power in 1998…Chinese Indonesians were always being blamed for the poverty of other races in Indonesia because they always ridiculously thought that Chinese Indonesians took the wealth and working chances away from them but they never blamed the corruption of Suharto‘s whole family,in fact,Chinese Indonesians are being richer is because they work harder

    • @Tom-iq5en
      @Tom-iq5en 5 ปีที่แล้ว +97

      @@NL-tr7ix it was the dark past of Indonesia that we need to acknowledge. My grandmother was expelled from her school in 1965 just because she is chinese.
      However you cannot compare the magnitude of the damages between 1965 and 1998. In 1965, we were trapped in the middle of two giants trying to win their respective ideologies. It was a nation-wide ideological war which destroyed the elements of our country. If you learn the Indonesian history, New Order Regime persecuted not only Chinese culture but also large number of the indigenous cultures too. Indonesian language then was forced to be taught while in the process diminishing the local languages. Other local traditions were also struggling to survive as the regime wanted "unity and harmony" that then proven fragile when Indonesia was hit by 1998 crisis.
      While in 1998, the absence of functioning government led to severe devastation of the nation. Today, all of us contributes equally to re-grow the economy.
      According to the statistics, more than 60% of Indonesia's GDP is contributed by SMEs. On paper the Chinese may look richer because most of their companies are listed on the capital market, but in reality it is still the locals who control Indonesia's economy. FYI current ratio of total market cap over GDP for Indonesia stands at only 34%. So, it would be baseless you say that certain race in Indonesia controls the economy of the nation.

    Indonesia has a lot of potential with it's large population and ease of sea transport but they need a strong navy to secure and dominate the major trade routes which pass near and through their territory. They could potentially throttle oil/trade to northeast Asia if not properly compensated for securing the trade routes and keeping them pirate free.

      Datu Mike lmao our economy fell in 1967 that was during marcos era and before martial law was in place take note:
      Ferdinand Marcos presidency: 1965 - 1986
      Martial law era: 1972 - 1981
      Cory Aquino era: 1986 - 1992
      Also werent for pnoy and being continued by duterte our economy wouldnt have 7.8% growth rate second to China today the highest ever in our history and compare today to before there are more filipinos who are well off and can reach college unlike in the 40s to 80s where only the elites of Manila can have proper education unlike today where we have higher chance of getting education
      The reason our country is fucked up because we always think that it is marcos vs aquinos and liberals vs duterte instead of being pro filipino its just like the early days of our country like bonifacio vs aguinaldo
      Be pro filipinos and patriots our patriotism isnt based to the loyalty of one politician or the government but to the nation and its people we filipinos are loyal to politicians and are defined by politicians and political dynasties instead of loyalty to the citizen and the nation itself
