Did not get the following that was deserved. Living in washington I loved seeing brad and satchel. He will be sorely missed by the ones that loved him...
Hard to listen to these songs without tears right now. What a great artist. I was lucky enough to speak with Shawn a few times before and after some of his shows. Sometimes in front of only 20 people, so he got to know some faces. He liked Heineken's, and I was always glad to buy him one. I tried not to bother him much, but he was always kind and gracious and would thank me for coming to the shows. How humble. I owe him so much for the songs he's given us over the years. Grab yourself a Heineken and spill a little on the ground for Shawn. May he rest in peace.
I would go and see him play the High Dive in Fremont every now and then towards the end. Solo with the piano. Never had the balls big enough to bother him, though. Wish I'd bought him a Heineken for all the pleasure his music gave me...
The last time I saw Brad play in LA I had the stones to ask if he would sign a set list I nabbed. He signed, posed for a pic and gave me an ear. Very gracious, humble and real. Meeting him meant the world to me. Losing him was like losing a close friend who always had your back. Especially during the dark times. He was my hero. He helped save me.

Great song. Heard it first on the "Beautiful Girls" soundtrack. Good movie btw. Then I was watching a documentary and it had a live version of "Isn't that Right" on it. It was amazing and I looked the band up and realized they were an offshoot of Malfunkshun and Stone was involved and Andy Wood tied into it and I was floored that I didn't follow this band. Their record label really let this band down. They should have been stars. They certainly had the talent. R.I.P. Shawn Smith. Hope you and Andy and Layne and Chris and all the guys and girls that left us way too early are singing and laughing. Down here on earth we haven't forgotten.
I was fortunate to have built a friendship with Shawn before his passing. Our mutual love of Prince gave us something to connect with . And he is one of the most underrated artists to have come out of the Seattle 90's movement. Tragic loss. Such a kind soul. And incredibly powerful voice.

With out a doubt, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. A big thank you to the flick "Beautiful Girls" for bringing it to my attention. Awesome stuff...
Without a doubt a great band that flew under the radar in the 90's along with Shawn Smith's (singer) other project with Pearl jam guitarist Stone Gossard, "Brad". I highly suggest picking up, Satchel "EDC", Satchel "The Family", Brad "Shame", Brad "Interiors"..fantastic records from the 90's. Probably some of the best actually. Once you hear those, know their is much more to hear from Shawn. Start with those first though.

Two of the best blind buys i ever made.
