I look for bamboo fabric... Barely ever find it but I've gotten lucky. Although one brand I like thrifting is Jones New York. Generally pretty good quality.
@@jazzminforrestall406 I have some bamboo sheets that I found at Tuesday morning for $20 and they are the best I’ve ever had! If you have a Tuesday morning near you, you should check it out
My dad was a high level model in his time so when I was an adolescent he wanted me to get into modeling too. He told me to “look sexy” while taking portfolio pictures of me in a bikini at age 13. Then when we went to a casting even though the job didn’t involve any beach or anything we had to line up in as small bikinis as we had to be judged. I was already often over sexualized and over aged because I was well developed and 5’8” already, so I was not innocent to the what I was doing and it made me really uncomfortable. I felt like I was selling my body, not in a regular photography way but a p*rn way. I talked to my dad about it and he said if I wanted to be a model that’s just what I had to do. I had to “put it out there” (referring to my body). Again, I was 13. I was a middle schooler. I didn’t want to be a model anyway so after that conversation with him I refused to do anything else related to modeling. My dad learned to respect my decision (wasn’t happy at first and didn’t understand why I felt so strongly about it) but I know a lot of other kids’ parents do not. The balenciaga shoot shows it clearly. The modeling industry as a whole, not just high end brands, is extremely exploitative
Damn. That’s honestly huge that you were still able to listen to your own instincts and boundaries, while your dad was encouraging you to do the opposite. It shows how grounded you were in yourself! Glad he was eventually able to see your perspective. I admit my heart hurts a little hearing he didn’t initially though.
Jesus....you'd think a father involved in something so violating would be doing everything in his power to help you steer CLEAR of that path to avoid traumatizing his own child 😒
@@honeyOTU_ he didn’t understand that it could be traumatizing because he’d never been traumatized by it himself. But he had a lot more inherent power and respect as a male model, and that’s what he didn’t understand
What's ironic is that Cristobal Balenciaga expressly stated that he didn't want the couture house to continue after he died and that he wanted it to die with him. But then they obviously ignored his wishes and now look, the poor man's name has been dragged through the mud when all he wanted was to rest in peace,
I'm having flashbacks to a newspaper article about a gigantic dead man who did not want his body to be handed over to scientific research only to end up being literally having his dead corpse robbed and displayed in a museum for like almost 2 centuries and only had his body removed NOW because it was directly against his wishes (they still keep him for scientific research though and refuse to give into his final wish into what he wanted to have done with his corpse). Why do people have such difficulties, accepting a man's final wish for the sake of money. Is dignity and decency really that easy to throw away?
To the point about luxury brands not even using good materials.... YES. Every time I see a luxury item I love on a second-hand website, it's literally made out of polyester, at least large parts of it. You'd think a slip dress for 2k dollars is out of silk, but nope. Also, my mom saved up for a chanel bag, and it took less than a year for it to break and she had to send it in for repair twice! I mean comon...
😥 regardless of brand I look for the material, the cut, if it's sustainable, and I run away from logos.... too dated and showy tbh. I always say nobody needs luxury, and still stand by that.
I recently went looking for new rings and since I wear silver I always have to look out that it is real silver and not silver coated. Chanel had a ring for I think, 600 euros. Silver coated.... Wtf
@@M_vH "luxury" custom jewelry (like the type you mentioned) is the BIGGEST waste of money. you can buy gold and sometimes diamonds fir the price of those junk metal jewelry sold by luxury brands
I'm an old timer. I saw the rise of wearing visible brand names really take off with the regular people in the 90s. It was big in the young rich crowd in the 80s, but their brand logos were smaller and more subtle like Polo or Lacoste. The brand logos became giant and exaggerated in the 90s for the poor folk to show off. I always felt these companies were trolling us and was always against wearing visible logos. Truly wealthy people wear bespoke clothing with no visible logos.
I find that things with visible exaggerated logos are tacky also stupid because the brand isn’t paying the wearer for wearing it yet they are using the wearer as advertising for the brand 😂
it's always going to be a class thing. the people who are "secure" in their wealth due to their circles and the culture they grew up in, tend not to flex. However, there is definitely classism and racism involved in that choice
@@zharak843 what racism do you speak of? Because the super wealthy Saudis, Nigerians, etc. all have the same mocking reactions to the peasants walking around with their giant Gucci emblems. You had it right with classicism. That is the only true evil we should be fighting. Because I promise the really wealthy of any minority could care less about this idea of racism unless it is profitable for them. When is every one going to wake up to the fact that the rich are keeping this idea of racism alive so we don't wake up and start pulling them out of their mansion and rise up against them.
@@lisettes.9598 the history of calling big logo fashion tacky is rooted in racism because it was the rappers that made it popular. r.e. TLC or lil Wayne... so racism has everything to do with it and I DID HAVE IT RIGHT. classism and racism intersect x
@@zharak843 lol, no they don't. And they were called tacky because the logos became cartoonish, exaggerated, and extremely visible. There was even a point where people were wearing the visible purchase tags to show off. Yes, it was tacky.
I started modelling when I was 15. It was short lived. I felt like I was a prop not a human being on set. Casting agents are rude about your body constantly, whilst also sexualising you. Thankfully my mum came to shoots with me and she had the sense to be like erm what the hell is that. I do not miss it
drives me nuts that these ppl spending 5k on 'designer' things don't spend that money on ethically made, small factory clothing! they could support small companies doing it right, and the impact they would have is far greater than padding the unethical name brands.
and they would also look so much better. whenever i see clothes on pinterest that everyone in the comments are obsessing over, 99% of the time they’re from boutique sustainable brands. still very expensive but by virtue of the price and thoughtfulness they’re so much more unique and eye catching.
seriously, the rich who buy unethical are doing it on purpose. they want all of this to happen. if they didn't, they'd buy ethically and destroy these brands
When I studied fashion we had a project where we profiled a designer. I got Cristóbal Balenciaga. What’s really interesting is that this guy hated ready to wear, he thought haute couture or made to measure clothing was the only way to do it and was obsessed with fit and tailoring. The brand Balenciaga now only does ready to wear, and as you say often uses cheap materials. They basically just stole this man’s name and putting out stuff that he would’ve despised. Obviously not the worst thing they’ve done but still.
I think we should also collectively stop holding these luxury brands to such high aspirational regards. I don't think there's anything wrong with aspiring to having nice things (and buying some when you have the money), but there are SO many small, independent designers and makers that are doing higher quality, beautiful, creative and more ethically made clothing and accessories (and usually, though not cheap per se, much less expensive), which are certainly more deserving of our coin than the big luxury brands which profits just go to inflating already-billionnaires' bank accounts
Beautifully said! I feel the same way. I only buy vintage from shops near me or online. And the few sustainable family-owned stores, their clothes may be minimalist but they look pretty and are ethically sourced and made by seamstresses and craftsmen/women.
I just buy secondhand designer. I filter through the items made out of cheap materials (ie polyester). I don't ever buy new clothes ever. Unless it's socks or underwear.
The “we won’t tell you what guideline you broke because you might break it again if you knew” makes literally no sense??? Just a straight up lie like them saying a human reviewed your video. They just don’t know themselves but can’t actually appeal.. TH-cam is such a shitty site
I live under that rock/I deleted twitter but the context I get from this video is enough to turn my stomach. I’m never surprised these luxury brands do horrible things (their existence is entirely elitist after all) but I’m baffled at the audacity. even if we cancel Balenciaga, we haven’t been supporting them in the first place because we can’t even afford to. It’s the rich that could’ve shopped ethically in the first place and I honestly don’t expect them to stop because ✨classism✨
Precisely, because this is nothing but a vibes-based right-wing conspiracy theory that spiralled out of control. It is the pedos busy pushing this idea that Balenciaga did anything wrong (outside of the usually wrong that companies are always doing). Why don't you complain about Disney or Nickelodian having child actors? Because that is the only thing that was wrong in this whole situation. Do some research on this, please.
it's almost like all the elites who can purchase this luxury brand are purposefully perpetuating the sexualization of children, trying to destroy this country even further
last week I went to Las Vegas and it was so boring because all we did was go inside the all of the branded stores. everything looked so tacky, I wouldn't like to spend my vacation on thinking that I'm not fitting in because I didn't buy a 70 dollar T-shirt.
i spent my honeymoon in vegas! there were so many stores with luxury brands- honestly, i didn't even bother going in...the vacation was already too expensive itself lmaoo
The designer stores in Vegas also carry particular pieces , usually catering to the showier , tackier pieces , thinking people will splurge on something more outrageous than their customers in other cities
I live in Vegas. Born and raised. A huge majority of natives don't care about the flashy stuff. It's the tourist or the people who just moved here and feel the need to dress like that cause it's "Vegas"
My brother has been dragged into designer everything. He buys fake designer and begs for real designer from my grandma. My family can't afford to buy him a Rolex, or Gucci perfume, but they still fuel it by buying him cheap designer (not cheap, but cheap for designer) Every point you made in this video is EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell my brother but he just tells me to shut up, then he'll stick his fingers in his ears.
This is interesting because my dad and brother are similar. Not to this extreme but they definitely value materialistic possessions more than is healthy and define their value over what they can own. It’s sad but it’s also because they came from nothing. Dad dropped out of school, no degree, was beat by his father, etc eventually built his own business and is now able to afford those things he never had. So I get it. But I also wish they could draw their value from more meaningful things because as we all know the high from a new designer bag lasts about a hot minute. 😔
We are all going to die. What going to matter when we do is not what money or clothes we possess but the relationships we have. The old broken braclets from childhood. Things we put our soul in. Materialistic is souless. It won’t matter.
People who don’t have money and buy logo clothes for status look ridiculous. It’s different when people do it in other ways, but you can tell who is trying to create a fake rich image. They never look rich. It’s better to have your own style with personality than try to be a hype beast.
For the price that a lot of luxury fashion is… you could probably hire a person to make a custom item for you? Tailored to YOU. And you’d be paying them more than the workers get for the luxury items? Idk……
Yes, the PARENTS have a major role that is overlooked. Minors cannot sign off on campaigns, shoots, designs etc. Parents should act as the first line of defense for their child. This ad controversy should never have made it past that first check-point
Yeah tragically, there are many many shitty parents out there and we cant rely on the morality of individual parents for anything, the law has to be the true first line of defense for children so there is no way parents can excuse it
I’ve never seen someone with a Gucci belt or LV bag and thought… wow look what money can buy. It’s like the most un artistic type of fashion created for the most insecure.
She's back again😌I'm truly happy you brought up this topic bcz why buy a shoes for 300 dollars bcz a brand name is on it when I can get one for a better quality for 24?
Or even better support a small artist. Small artists are the most sustainable choice. Nobody who’s selling new shoes at 24 dollars is actually paying their workers.
she literally let her daughter wear a gag mask recently, i don't think she would think the campaigns were any morally wrong hadn't it been for public's angry reaction
Makes no sense to me how Balenciaga is able to file a 25 m lawsuit against the production & set designers that made the ads…. Like wasn’t that y’all tho? UPDATE: I heard they dropped the lawsuit 🧐
As someone who studied fashion design I can say that fashion designers definitely have another view on the world and see controversial themes as an Chance to stand out and shock. Which does, of course, not make it okay if it is just done for shock value and not in a social critical way.
That is a thing that always confused me, I myself love fashion and is like really into it, but can't you just stand out by just creating something expriemental and creative, instead of it being controversial? like I felt like there was something wrong with the fashion industry viewing controvesial stuffs as really creative and genius, like it NEVER made sense to me.
@@user-yl2ef1wn9q if it’s just to be controversial, I don’t get it either. If it’s well done social commentary that evokes a specific emotion in the viewer that is is art but just to stand out or have people talk…
I couldn’t agree more! it’s the same with marketing, business strategy, even communication studies, and that’s primarily because of our focus on exploiting our target audience as a shortcut to the effort taken for express something to them, and our tendency to see all publicity as good publicity. Also, by default, controversy is much easier to sell than creativity, that’s in our nature.
Based on those wild runway shows, it seems to me Balenciaga is the pick me of high fashion. They really be doing the most with those walking styles and face/head mask thingies 🤦🏽♀️
They try to be so edgy and they feel so fake doing it. Ever been to their London store? It looks like the whole building was so delipidated they decided to tear it down, and yesterday Balenciaga decided to squat there anyway, throwing their crap on raw cement shelving. The dumbest thing in the entire store is this bag made out of a pair of kneehigh boots with stiletto heels. It comes in black and neon yellow.
OK, possibly controversial opinion here, but I don't think any designer fashion is good and fashion has been going downhill since like 1920. I hate being told how a skinny white woman wearing a plain white t-shirt and jeans is an incredible fashion moment. Just a plain 1890s walking suit is impressive with the subtle details of the tailoring, fit and structure (and the massive skirt and sleeves) in ways modern fashion just doesn't seem to appreciate. And that's not even talking about the hats.
i agree with you and i know there's lots of other people who do too. the only western person i've seen make some modern clothes with a real appreciation for historical technique is vivienne westwood (mainly designs from the 80s~90s), though i'm not sure if you'd agree.. things just don't wow me when they don't have that detail and structure.
I think current fashion is kind of lame but I don’t think you can just throw out 100 years. There was a lot of interesting design created during that time. One of my favorite designers is Halston. He didn’t create much of his iconic things until the 70s. What about McQueen?!? What about the creations of Dapper Dan? I think if you are only looking at influencer fashion or high-end brands then it can seem terrible.
Not only burning does nothing to help this situation, but it also dismisses the people that were most likely exploited in the making of the garment. When people choose to not support a brand anymore, they should find a way to offset the things the brand did they don't agree with: they can donate to charities that will help the garment makers for example. And I think the clothing should still be worn; there are several ways to hide brand names if you don't want to be walking advetisement for these brands.
The person who launched the Balenziaga-gate conspiracy theory also has a history with Neo Nazis. The originator of the "expose" was literally banned from Twitch for racism and is now a pretty open Nazi. Do some research on this situation, please.
Did the adress mark ruffalo sexually abusing the heiress of Gucci Alexandra Zarini? Just curious if that was included in the movie but not surprised if that wasn’t.
my friend bought two pairs of shoes from a brand that will keep repairing them forever, which is a very cool sustainable concept! but i don’t think all these brands do this, right?
omg that actually sound sooooo cool!! my feet are ruined from ballet so it's hard to find shoes that are comfortable, and when i do find them, i get attached! it always feels sad to throw shoes out, even after they get worn out completely :/ so this brand would be perfect: imagine just having the same comfortable shoes *forever* .... what a concept!!
@@pigeondance I feel you, my post-ballet feet are a constant pain, literal and allegorical. I even went so far to buy 2 pairs of same shoes becaues they were so comfy
@@pigeondance salvatore ferragamo is the brand, my friend did say that "most luxury brands will repair damaged items" but I'm not sure this is true or what kind of damage we're talking about here since I've never bought any luxury brands myself
There are so many small brands who make things just outside of my price range, made with good materials, made by people who were paid their worth. If I had celeb money I'd be buying and supporting small. There are whole brands supporting whole villages! Brands that work with communities that produce their clothes, hiring managers etc from those countries instead of having Westerners as bosses. People tell on themselves, they may not know it but it's obviously about class and status.
Amen my girl. Parents have been exploiting their children for forever. It's disgusting and should be illegal, but we shouldn't HAVE to make laws against it. Living off your child should be shamed by society without need for laws. Hollywood treats animals better than little kids. I was modeling and doing beauty pageants since age 3. It was messed up and awful and I never saw a dime. Mom was always just congratulated for having a pretty baby. *gag
yuck. apologies if this is too far, but shame on your mom for using you as a way for money and compliments rather than just loving and treating you as a child, or even letting you enjoy a proper childhood.
@misschocoki Not too far at all, sweetheart. I appreciate you. The good thing is that it has taught me to keep my own children far outside of the public eye. I have an 8 year old granddaughter now as well, and we keep the world from touching her as much as possible. The only negative is that I haven't spoken to my mother in over 10 years. Even that, though a bit painful, is necessary. Mother isn't a very nice person, and she would have tried to use my daughters and granddaughter in the same way. Love and light on you ✨️
every time my mom sees any high end fashion stuff: “those aren’t doing any wonders for the models” “what do we even obsess over someone so emaciated, how does it even make these brands look any beautiful?” My mom isn’t very aged, she’s still in her 50s, but she’s from the countryside. She wasn’t exposed to the high end of things until somewhere in her 30s after she got married into a city, and that’s the cool part, because she wasn’t primed early on how to get them into her heads like we’ve been. She actually values, and judges their impact in relation to human wellbeing, and that’s why she’s too smart to buy anything their marketing tries to sell to the people. While for her it’s definitely unintentional, we all need to cultivate such a mentality, to really understand what wellbeing means, and trust me, that’ll force these brands to live up to their power and price for real. Brands are only food for an inflated, baseless ego. It appeals to nothing else.
High fashion is so wild because while yes, it is a lot more expensive to produce stuff ethically, you'd have to feed the goat fucking caviar and truffles to sell the cashmere sweater for like 3k and it not even being pretty
If you want to buy high quality, long lasting pieces and have the money, pay an independent maker or designer that makes one of a kind items. You can find amazing artists and makers locally or on etsy....handmade leather goods, custom gowns, sustainable materiels.... there's so many talented artists out there that can make brilliant things that you can commission. I'll never understand paying thousands for polyester and plastic because it has a brand name.
Someone needs to look into that little girl's father. If my husband approved of that and said those things, I'd be watching him like a hawk. People are sick. I just found your channel yesterday. Loving your raw honesty and your take is refreshing af. Tbf I agree with it a great deal, but I don't hear many speaking it.... so thank you. Every opinion should be heard and discussed. I find yours important.
- Brand starts with high quality materials, high prices to match and innovative chic designs - Brand gets recognition for the quality and the price is justified - People start buying things from the brand expecting high quality - Brand starts dropping quality to improve profit margins - People start noticing - Another brand starts, rinse and repeat
Like I don't get it, why would you use 1800$ to look like someone threw your Balenciaga shoes in to a muddy pit, and someone's dog pooped on your shoes but you decided to still keep wearing them because they are Balenciaga...
I like Bliss Foster's channel for talking about the art of fashion, about how high fashion garments innovate. He doesn't talk so much about the negative aspects of fashion - but if he disapproves of something, he won't talk about it. I think this is a good move, as there are already loads of people tearing apart looks, and not as many highlighting designers who do it well (his Paris fashion week videos are always great)
I agree that luxury brand does NOT equal quality. HOWEVER, we cannot deny that luxury brands/stores often sell styles/ cuts/ patterns that CANNOT be found in "lower end" stores. As someone who loves fashion and is very particular about their clothes luxury/ designer brands sometimes offer things that lower end brands/stores cannot. As consumers, it is our responsibility to shop responsibly & ethically as possible. Always opt for second hand before shopping for new items, and choose durable materials that are constructed well. Lastly, shop according to your style and not just TRENDS!
That's such an understated point about the parents. When that stuff about Tiffany haddish and Aries came out with the crepy video with the boys, their mom said they lied about what they were filming so she didn't know. But it was also her responsibility to supervise, talk to her kids, and check the video after it was done. It wasn't her fault but she's partially responsible.
She demanded the video realising how her kids were acting afterwards. She kept insisting, Tiffany claimed the video was with Aries , she then went to Aries and Aries said the video quality was so bad that they couldn't use therefore there is no footage to see. It was when they released the video that she sued them because they had lied and decieved her ( knowing what really happened upon seeing the footage).
I've followed Isabella Lanter for years! She was actually the person who came out, and she made me decide to finally come out after seeing her IG post. So ill always appreciate her more than she will ever know❤️
12:20 I love how you explained how who you chose to work with matters and it is directly supporting those behaviours. I would love to hear you speak about the Amsterdam movie and how Hollywood keeps supporting men that have sa’d people.
I agree with you so much about the parents being money hungry. My cousin was asking me to help her create a TH-cam channel for her 4 year old daughter, she wanted to take the example of the famous child TH-camrs. I know she was only looking for her ticket out of poverty via her daughter, so I refused. She also talked about bringing her to NY to have her daughter do castings for commercials. I think there is a fine line between discovering your child has a talent and trying to support them with said talent vs literally thinking of their children as their golden goose. It’s so sad. 😢
Gurl yes, this "luxury" brands do not also have good quality both Forever 21 and Gucci are outsourcing from slave work. Like you said this is the reality in capitalism all this clothing brands are the same and this translates to everything food, clothes, homegoods, furniture etc....
Honestly as soon as a Kardashian is involved, I immediately become suspicious and look at the “brand” sideways. She’s not leaving because she needs the money. That billionaire bank account is a work of fiction.
I'm currently listening to a books about the history of culture and belief systems. In this book it talks about how a company and brand isn't made up on any one thing. So if you took away the CEO the company would still exist, if you took away the workers the company may stop production for a while but the company would technically still exist. Even if you stripped a company of all it's part the brand, the logo and our belief in that company causes it to continue existing. I think this is why we have such a hard time punishing a brand when it does something wrong like Balenciaga. A brand doesn't exist as one single entity you can aim your anger at.
I think the only way to "punish" these brands is to aim anger towards anything that promotes them while simultaneously not promoting the brand. Especially aiming anger towards the people who promote these brands that way people will stop promoting brands.
Lady saying "we don't say cancel the church". Just like an assortment of memes about the protestant reformation scrolling through my head with "Somebody that I used to know" playing with reverb.
If I ever become very rich, I’ve promised myself to never buy from big name luxury brands. I’d much rather purchase clothes by designers (like the people on project runway n stuff) most big name brands make clothing too so 🤷♀️
I’m a fashion design student and I agree with most of the things you said, however I do thing there are many independent brands out there with the moral running the brand so I don’t necessarily agree with the “you can’t mix business with moral” however I loved your video and I agree, art should be for everyone! Thank you always for your input
Personally, I think there should be some kind of enforced cap on profit pricing. Like yes, no item is ever priced for less than or as much as the cost to make it. The maker/company needs to make a profit, but I think it's really out of control with some brands. I think products should be evaluated by their cost of production (that includes a fair wage for employees) and then advised how much an item should cost. Idek, maybe it seems overcomplicated but I just think that these companies need to be held accountable in some way and the only way they care about is in their wallet. Sure, maybe a lot of companies would stoop to making products with cheaper materials to cut corners, but I'd like to think a few of them would take the concept of integrity to heart (help, it's the idealist in me). I agree though, it's a bit of a conundrum because fashion can be art and art is priceless, but then the question becomes, are the upper crust of society the only ones allowed to access art?
In a society that values capital as much as ours does, consumers truly hold power with what we spend our money on. Vote with your dollar - the time to spend money without thinking of where it goes is over, and this situation truly highlights that. The same goes for online engagement - the most powerful tool we have is the power to ignore; don't engage, don't give them your rage because they're turning it into cash and validation. Stop giving evil oxygen and spend your energy the same way you would spend your money: with intention.
These women make them money by advertising and they deserve to be held to account along with every single detail of this!! And this woman Julian doesn’t have a point because two wrongs don’t make a right - it’s a distraction and you are right a disturbing to even try to justify this 🙏👏 thank you for being real ❤

When I was living in Beijing 10 years ago, there were these huge mall markets with booths of individual sellers (kind of like antique malls but the seller would be there to negotiate price) where you could barter for eeeverything. A lot of it was knock off high fashion so it would be the same purse or pair of shoes or whatever made in the same factory by the same workers but just without the logo. We would talk about that a lot in Beijing actually because it was so visible there since many people worked in the factories where these products were being made.
Because of everything you have said in this video, these are the reasons why I haven't been back to a shopping mall for the past ten years. I can't believe I used to spend so much money on brand knockoffs and original brand items instead of saving it for college! (Yes, I did give it all away to charity and sold items and gave that money towards non-profit organizations). I dress up more comfortably now and buy things without logos. Just plain, sustainable, thoughtful clothes and accessories. Now, I'm more concerned for my sister, my brother-in-law and their best friend Laurie. My sis buys things from Gucci, Victoria's Secret, and Luis Vuitton and then she is complaining that she doesn't have enough money for their rent. Their friend Laurie has brainwashed them that expensive clothing will make them more likeable and rich looking. When in fact all that money could go into rent, food, vacation time, etc. I already showed them some videos on TH-cam. My brother-in-law and sis kicked me out of their place and told me that I can't go back to see them or my niece and nephew. It makes me sad and uncomfortable how the brands get away with so much. Then the consumer goes on to brainwash others in the process! Cancelling them out is not the solution, educating people, and making them aware of the problem is the solution. It's up to them if they wish to continue to contribute to the problem. Much respect Salem! Thank you!
Lately, I’ve been getting into the gothic Lolita style. But, that doesn’t mean I’m gonna legit burn my old clothes?? I just stop buying clothes that aren’t my style.
You can also upcycle! The lolita community is big on sewing so if you have the time and interest, you could always make yourself an apron or accessories with older pieces instead of throwing them out. Otherwise, you can donate :)
Right? And if I have any items that are still good quality, I sell them for 1/3 the price on resale sites. I can’t stand people who buy clothes made of bad materials then up-charge by like 20% for used clothing
As someone who also likes Lolita (Guro and Nurse Lolita) this is something that I live by now. Though I usually buy from places like Depop, Buyee and Mercari, as those are probably the only places where I can find my style of choice 😂
it's so annoying how people are just realizing how corrupt these brands and industries really are. It took them throwing child sexualization in your face to finally notice it but you haven't seen all of these going on FOR YEARS?
Can you talk about Millie bobby brown next? I remember you mentioning her in an old video and saying you could make a whole thing about her. I’ve been curious to hear about your opinions on her ever since
What annoys me ( like you mentioned ) people thought they was amazing for ruining / throwing away or burning their balenciaga items when they was cancelled but them forgetting they still gave balenciaga so much money 😂
So much to say about this, being someone who was a kid star (athlete who was on tv with Ryan Seacrest when I was 12 for my athleticism), acting , etc. Fortunately, my single parent father was raised right and when I wasn’t into it, he was like, “stop”. Mind you, I got back in when I was 18, walked a runway in NY blah blah. But, I landed on indie film production and I’ve hit 19 years as an award winning DJ. All that aside, I’m a bit f*cked up 😆 The Industry is not dor the feint of heart, no matter the age. I have a kiddo who is almost 5 and he has long hair (he is black and Canadian indigenous so we keep it long because not too long ago, indigenous people had their hair cut off to take away their culture... but I digress). He’s literally “beautiful “ and so many people when he was born was like, “put him in commercials.” Did i? Nope. I know too much. If he decides one day to do so, we can chat. For now, he likes coding, demolition/construction trucks and pretty things. I prefer him just finding his way without all the spot light. Aside, he’s come to my shows (day shows) and I’m like, “come on stage” and he will for a second and runs off. Enough said. No pressure zone and I respect his boundaries. Though, he just had just first two concerts at school and I ain’t lying when I said he carried the whole show, singing. My heart! But, we can sing and make beats in the MPC at home without needing to be clout chasing. It’s hard enough for me being an introvert and I’ve had cameras on me since I started performing at 4 (First recital at dance theatre of Harlem). Parents need to wake up and connect with their kids. It’s not about fame and clout, it’s about “are you raising a decent Being?” My kid is a winner (kicks my ass in every board game practically and he can talk some good 💩, too 😆) but he can shine for himself first and find his light before needing to shine it for everyone else. I do that enough for him. And I hold space for him if he ever wants to go in and perform or anything. I will be by his side, making sure no one takes advantage of him, even me. 🦆 by the way, start your OWN platform, sis! Have a developer create an app for you. Be platform independent. About this thing that most of the times high fashion brands don't put quality on their products, I suggest you to watch Cristine (holo taco) using Gucci's nail polish. Is a true fiasco.
I bought a fake Burberry scarf in turkey 10 years ago and it's still like new. It's identical to the real thing apart from maybe a few stitches that you need a magnifying glass to see
I can relate to the makeup brands having the same materials and being more expensive. I got the kaleidoscope eyeshadow palette from Walmart for $10, and I was absolutely shocked because it was better than one I had gotten previously for $40
This is literally a topic me and my dad were talking about earlier today, and with all this shady stuff coming out from Balenciaga and Gucci, and their parent company 👀👀 This video could not be any more relevant.
Hello Salem, you are really an extraordinary person, super intelligent and so well spoken! Thank you for putting out these issues. Keep posting please! 🥰
Girl! I NEVER leave comments, but I'm going to leave one here today just to boost the algorithm because of the last video. GUYS, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT! LET'S HELP THE QUEEN!
I like how you talked about how even sending these companies angry comments is still in their favor. I believe that whenever we focus on something that makes us angry, or talk about it, or comment etc….we are giving away our energy/ power to the very thing we don’t like…….what we focus on we feed…..
I just want to say that so many channels have lost me as a viewer because they are so boring they do not talk and they are uninteresting your channel is one of the few channels that I still find very interesting very entertaining and well worth my time seeing as how the TV just doesn’t do it for me anymore and a lot of these influencers or lack creativity or at the very least the gumption to give out quality content please don’t stop doing what you do or I will have nothing else to watch😅
the amount of research you put into your videos is unmatched 🥺 it’s one thing if the parents had no idea what the campaign was gonna entail, but the fact that they *knew* is disgusting and they 100% need to be held accountable for putting their child in that situation.
About quality in high fashion: its true that the quality have been declining also in the luxury world. (why make something that lasts and risk not seing the customer again? So ofcorce its buy and trow away mentality to some degree.) Its not always the case thought. I still have clothes from the fashion house my parents worked for in the 80s.
Just popping in to get excited at the mention of D&D night. Haven't had one with my IRL group in forever, I miss getting together and baking for my friends.
Not to sound all "pick me" but I genuinely never understood the appeal of these high fashion brands. Balenciaga clothes look average at best and utterly ridiculous otherwise. I can see the interest in different silhouettes and innovative uses of textiles in fashion being a big point of all of this, but for wearable clothing/accessories, it just falls short imo. I'm happy to never buy from those brands because I never have, and I can't imagine that those who could afford these brands can't find better clothing elsewhere...
If you ever wanted to do a video on the exploitation that happens with the children of family vloggers and mom/dad influencers, I would love to hear more of your thoughts on that! I think regardless of industry there are so many parents who prioritize money/fame/opportunities over the safety and privacy of their children.
All high end brands that make shades are owned by one company and they’re all supposedly made in italy but in reality they buy and have the materials manufactured in china and “assembled” in italy, just putting that out there
About you wanting to upload more: I love your content and hearing your takes, but you don't have to put too much pressure on yourself to post all the time. You can post when you want to and when you feel up to it and well be happy to see you :)
I'm part of the Steampunk culture, and we make most of our own clothes and items. Tophats with Clocks, and moving gears, and lights, even music boxes. I once saw a guy who spent 2 years making his own Steampunk Iron Man suit that was actually made of metal and lit up and everything. You can save money, and time by making your own clothes and shoes. I could make you a suit or dress with 10x higher quality than Gucci and for ⅛ the price. And it's totally custom. Color, pockets, fit, everything is custom.
Tips for secondhand shoppers: don’t look at brands, check the fabric type and where/how it was made. A lot of great clothing is under the radar

That’s so wild
What's ironic is that Cristobal Balenciaga expressly stated that he didn't want the couture house to continue after he died and that he wanted it to die with him. But then they obviously ignored his wishes and now look, the poor man's name has been dragged through the mud when all he wanted was to rest in peace,
Damn. Makes me not want to become a designer.
Is dignity and decency really that easy to throw away?
greed ruins everything
Wtf

THIS!!!
seriously, the rich who buy unethical are doing it on purpose. they want all of this to happen. if they didn't, they'd buy ethically and destroy these brands
and we scream it from the rooftops but they'll never listen bc of good old visually fake lives. its so sad.
Wait, so you're telling me a morally questionable brand in a morally questionable industry is acting with questionable morals?
This is crazy you guys
Love that ahaha
Thisss !

On point 💯
It wasn’t just balenciaga, it was adidas too, since they worked together on those adds. 😢
i wish rich people were smart, then i would be at peace.
last week I went to Las Vegas and it was so boring because all we did was go inside the all of the branded stores. everything looked so tacky, I wouldn't like to spend my vacation on thinking that I'm not fitting in because I didn't buy a 70 dollar T-shirt.
i spent my honeymoon in vegas! there were so many stores with luxury brands- honestly, i didn't even bother going in...the vacation was already too expensive itself lmaoo
@@_salemtovar_ honestly even if I was rich I would not be spending that much money on some clothes like bffr
The designer stores in Vegas also carry particular pieces , usually catering to the showier , tackier pieces , thinking people will splurge on something more outrageous than their customers in other cities
Legit this has become the norm its so dystopian.
My family can't afford to buy him a Rolex, or Gucci perfume, but they still fuel it by buying him cheap designer (not cheap, but cheap for designer)
Every point you made in this video is EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell my brother but he just tells me to shut up, then he'll stick his fingers in his ears.
💀💀 no critical thinking skill, only "expensive thing cool"
This is interesting because my dad and brother are similar. Not to this extreme but they definitely value materialistic possessions more than is healthy and define their value over what they can own. It’s sad but it’s also because they came from nothing. Dad dropped out of school, no degree, was beat by his father, etc eventually built his own business and is now able to afford those things he never had. So I get it. But I also wish they could draw their value from more meaningful things because as we all know the high from a new designer bag lasts about a hot minute. 😔
poor him
We are all going to die.
Idk……
right? you can also use that to make yourself some AMAZING outfits to last you a few years

Yes, the PARENTS have a major role that is overlooked. Minors cannot sign off on campaigns, shoots, designs etc. Parents should act as the first line of defense for their child. This ad controversy should never have made it past that first check-point

As someone who studied fashion design I can say that fashion designers definitely have another view on the world and see controversial themes as an Chance to stand out and shock. Which does, of course, not make it okay if it is just done for shock value and not in a social critical way.
This very interesting 🤨 and when I think 🤔 of this , I look at Alexander McQueen and his last show “Plato’s Atlantis. That caused so much controversy.

@@nattojelly8349 I also agree with the last point where you mention the social commentary

😂😂 The Pick Me of high fashion is such a good description.

So happy the age restriction was lifted. You put so much work in these videos that deserves to be found and recognized.

Love and light on you ✨️
How do we tell the dif between outrage for profit and artists challenging convention? You nailed it: art doesn't exploit people, bravo 👏
every time my mom sees any high end fashion stuff:
“those aren’t doing any wonders for the models”
“what do we even obsess over someone so emaciated, how does it even make these brands look any beautiful?”
My mom isn’t very aged, she’s still in her 50s, but she’s from the countryside.

- Brand gets recognition for the quality and the price is justified
- People start buying things from the brand expecting high quality
- Brand starts dropping quality to improve profit margins
- People start noticing
- Another brand starts, rinse and repeat

Your Lomi ad voiceover was giving me SNL Jennifer Coolidge spoof realness, and I was fully here for it
I agree with you so much about the parents being money hungry.
I really love when you do the soft, quiet, voiceover parts. It's very nice to chill to.
🦆 < forgot the duck emoji sorry babes
Thank you Salem. The fashion industry has gone too far and the amount of waste this produces is ridiculous.
These women make them money by advertising and they deserve to be held to account along with every single detail of this!! And this woman Julian doesn’t have a point because two wrongs don’t make a right - it’s a distraction and you are right a disturbing to even try to justify this 🙏👏 thank you for being real ❤
Salem, just wanted to hop in here and say thank you for your content. Your voice alone is so calm and measured, and I truly appreciate how you approach these topics. As someone who loves fashion and pop culture it’s refreshing to see someone who is clearly passionate about their content but does not use that passion to punch down. Rather, you do a great job considering all relevant sides and staying open to other perspectives. Thanks for what you do, keep doing it.
Thank you!
Did a lot of media showcase the glamour of the mall? That's probably why you shopped so much.
I’ve been curious to hear about your opinions on her ever since
Roxy is adorable!! The white furs coming out of her ears is so fricking cute!
Great video and i love hearing your voice
Love your content! Keep doing you girl!
What annoys me ( like you mentioned ) people thought they was amazing for ruining / throwing away or burning their balenciaga items when they was cancelled but them forgetting they still gave balenciaga so much money 😂
I have a Lomi and I love it! No more smelly trash if I have scraps. Plus I’m collecting compost for next spring’s garden. 🙂
The fact that your pj is looking more glamorous than a high-end pj with LV printed all over is speakimg volume.
Still do the yT but channel it into your own app and platform. It will set you free. All the love! ❤❤
PPS: that charming hurr flip! It was cool in the teaser image but gave me life in the video as a former burlesque chick. 😍😍😍 (yeah, I’ve done a lot in my young 39 years lol) much love and gratitude, Salem!
Wooo!! Thankyou for being a good parent. This world so desperately needs good parents and it means a lot to see people like you protecting their children and letting them discover themselves 💚
I'm so happy you got your account back!! I've been watching your videos forever I swear each one is better than the last
About this thing that most of the times high fashion brands don't put quality on their products, I suggest you to watch Cristine (holo taco) using Gucci's nail polish. Is a true fiasco.
I just wanna say I love the hair and the new vibe to your videos
Can I just say Salem is gorgeous???
💛💛💛
Julia Fox's whataboutism is ridiculous. Why anyone let her get away with that non sequitur as part of her defense is beyond me.
She really wanted to have Sinead O’Connor moment there
She did not have a Sinead O’Conner moment
I bought a fake Burberry scarf in turkey 10 years ago and it's still like new. It's identical to the real thing apart from maybe a few stitches that you need a magnifying glass to see
I can relate to the makeup brands having the same materials and being more expensive. I got the kaleidoscope eyeshadow palette from Walmart for $10, and I was absolutely shocked because it was better than one I had gotten previously for $40
This is literally a topic me and my dad were talking about earlier today, and with all this shady stuff coming out from Balenciaga and Gucci, and their parent company 👀👀
This video could not be any more relevant.
Thanks for talking more about the age restriction!!! Im so so happy that it got rightfully removed ❤️❤️❤️❤️
And while we're all here in the west trying to cancel balenciaga, all the kpop idols in Asia are DRIPPING in Balenciaga right now
I like how you talked about how even sending these companies angry comments is still in their favor. I believe that whenever we focus on something that makes us angry, or talk about it, or comment etc….we are giving away our energy/ power to the very thing we don’t like…….what we focus on we feed…..
I just want to say that so many channels have lost me as a viewer because they are so boring they do not talk and they are uninteresting your channel is one of the few channels that I still find very interesting very entertaining and well worth my time seeing as how the TV just doesn’t do it for me anymore and a lot of these influencers or lack creativity or at the very least the gumption to give out quality content please don’t stop doing what you do or I will have nothing else to watch😅
commenting for the algorithm
appreciate it
sameeeeee

the amount of research you put into your videos is unmatched 🥺
it’s one thing if the parents had no idea what the campaign was gonna entail, but the fact that they *knew* is disgusting and they 100% need to be held accountable for putting their child in that situation.
Can I just say your oc is BUTIFUL, absolutely gorgeous.
Don't forget that picture of Kim's daughter (she's like 10) in the gimp suit mask 🙃
Kim does not care at all she's just trying to save face
yeah like "as a mother of four" oh okay you have to have your own children to care about them? no
Yeah that she is a mother doesn’t make her a good person. Sadly we all know abusive parents.
Love that you have Ms Violet.
Thank you so much for bringing up the parenting aspect of this issue!
Very good points about the parents, and you're right, nobody has been talking about it!
The way I look forward to Salem’s videos 😅.
as you should 💅💅💅
Saaaaameee
About quality in high fashion: its true that the quality have been declining also in the luxury world. (why make something that lasts and risk not seing the customer again? So ofcorce its buy and trow away mentality to some degree.) Its not always the case thought. I still have clothes from the fashion house my parents worked for in the 80s.
SALEMMMM!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS 💗💗💗💗
TYYY
All high end brands that make shades are owned by one company and they’re all supposedly made in italy but in reality they buy and have the materials manufactured in china and “assembled” in italy, just putting that out there
It's like when a company says "designed in the US, assembled in China" 🤣
About you wanting to upload more: I love your content and hearing your takes, but you don't have to put too much pressure on yourself to post all the time. You can post when you want to and when you feel up to it and well be happy to see you :)
Living for that Violet Chachkie gif at the start
an icon truly
I'm part of the Steampunk culture, and we make most of our own clothes and items. Tophats with Clocks, and moving gears, and lights, even music boxes. I once saw a guy who spent 2 years making his own Steampunk Iron Man suit that was actually made of metal and lit up and everything.
You can save money, and time by making your own clothes and shoes. I could make you a suit or dress with 10x higher quality than Gucci and for ⅛ the price. And it's totally custom. Color, pockets, fit, everything is custom.
dang i love your videos, perfect balance between humour and knowledge
