This was the first NPI video that I have watched since your 'Eight years as a boardgames reviewer' video - I meant to comment on that as I had so many thoughts & so much love to send, as always, but live and ADHD struck!
You were right about the huge growth in production values but the passion for boardgames; the desire to share that passion for everything great, mediocre and sometimes absolutely terrible; and the underlying humou, they have always been present and they're the reason why we keep watching and keep supporting both of you.
You did get one thing wrong though. You're not boardgame reviewers anymore, you have become boardgame critics, of both the games themselves and the wider hobby/industry. It's an important and much needed role.
Back to GWT, I have just played my first two games of GWT and I wanted to come back and rewatch your review having played it myself.
It's taken me two games to completely retain all the rules, something that is frustrating but I know have to accept for this weight of game since becoming so ill two years ago.
I've wanted to learn to play it for about four years, so I am very happy to have finally done so. I think that once I can start actually playing effectively, I will really enjoy GWT!
I do have one issue with it though...
There's no green player! :-D

I completely agree with the sentiment here. GWT is great and i'm amazed at how differently you can play it, although i find myself going for cowboys every time. Maybe i like cowboys.
My first time playing this game is one of my favorite moments in gaming because I put a good building on one of the side routes, the other two players kept saying "haha let's put roadblocks so he can't use that" and I was secretly thinking "haha keep putting roadblocks there because I can eat them for bonus victory points while pretending that you're hindering me". There's so much to process in this game that it can easily have those feelings not just of not having "solved" the proper approach (which keeps things interesting), but of discovering things to take advantage of that the other people haven't noticed. While I was collecting all the side objectives, I had really fallen behind on actual cattle so the others had built up these big decks of big-point cows and they felt the same "I've left them in the dust" feeling as I did.

This game is my favorite two player game
I sold Mombasa because it doesn't work well with two players. GWT appears to be better with two.
+shatnershairpiece I would say it works better but I think the 3 and 4 player game is much more tactical

I was put off by the theme at first but the game ended up amazing after I got the hang of the rules.
I require a theme to captivate me but this could never do that, I have no beef with the concept or the designer but If I received the game for free I would play it and even after the first try i would not put it out to pasture. Does the game require an app ? out of the box is there a lot of housekeeping ? do you have to manually cowculate anything which the app would do for you more efficiently ? I thought that the game would be an udder bore fest but it doesn't seem to be from this review.

yes, I agree - overuse of puns can put others in a bad mood, leaving them udderly disappointed and unamoosed. Using puns is a cowardly act ... * wait I think I'll get my coat and leave now..*
I was disappointed that the guys declined to discuss their differing opinions on the Last Place Podcast. The point of debate is not to beat the other guy into a concession. The point is to help the debate's audience consider all sides and develop an informed opinion.
I think some context is missing. Jon had a bad experience reviewing GWT in terms of audience responses. Revisiting that at that time would have not been a good idea.
Oh, did he get lots of venom? That's too bad. For all its raves, I'm still on the fence about whether or not it's for me.
Y'know, I just checked out Jon's review expecting to see a high level of toxicity, and instead the comments overall seemed fairly complimentary and supportive, and if not that then at least respectful in their disagreement.
