Gremlins 2 is unironically one of my favorite childhood and adulthood movies. I watched it so often, the plastic vhs case was beat! It may still be in my basement. Oh God I hope so! Now I have to look!
I love this film! Watch it more than the original. It is my favourite blend of genres: horror and comedy. It nails it like Ghost Busters and Tremors do. The cast is perfect and the spider gremlin gives me chills to this day 😘🤌

It's probably already been said here but the true genius of this film - and it is absolutely perfect in every way - is that in the end the story IS a complete rehash of the original, but everything else overwhelms you with sheer awesomeness and it just doesn't matter.
i Grew up to all the sequels,.. Home alone 2, Tmnt 2, Ghostbusters 2, My girl 2.. I personally like this,.. after going back and watching the originals, you grow to appreciate what it was,.. and how a franchise starts,..

I saw this in the theater and was so enthralled when the film "melted" and the Gremlin silhouettes appeared I whispered to my friend, "Is this really happening?" It's a shame you can't do that with digital but then Gremlins 2 was so brilliant in that it did so many things that could only be done once.
I always prefered The New Batch, because it went balls to the walls. The first one is good but could easily have ended up like the critter movies, the leprachan movies, trolls etc but i really think it found it’s tone in the second one with all the meta humor and some scary scenes. I’m sad that it wasn’t as liked because i would have loved to see how crazy they could have gone with a third one. And the effects are amazing and still holds up for the most part. If i had a gun to my head and was asked wich one i like the most i wouldn’t even hesitate to say The New Batch.
Gremlins 2 is amazing. People that don't/didn't get it, just don't get films or anything outside of the images flashing in front of their faces. Damn shame... but the masses not getting it doesn't diminish how amazing the movie is!

This is always a good move when making a sequel to a very good movie. If you can’t top in spoof it or change the genre. Gremlins 2, Texas chainsaw massacre 2, Terminator 2, Aliens, etc
I can't understand the people who did not like this movie and praise the fist. I love the first as well, but all the different personalities really made this one of my favorites. It is Gremlins on steroids, more of everything. Even used Slayer, Angel of Death riff.
I have always enjoyed new batch more than og gremlins. Seeing it opening weekend in theaters was something special, no home viewing can or will ever duplicate.

If people want to say it's not horror because it's more funny than it is scary, then I will ask, are The Nightmare on Elm Street movies after number 3 considered comedy or horror? Because they are not scary but it's funny when people insist they may be.

The commentary may be a 90s era parody of Wall Street and a Younger Donald Trump with Clamp’s character, but the themes of rampant, dumb consumerism and greed are actually kind of timeless. Wild how a movie with a burping, vegetable monster can actually have smart theming.
I never realized it until you pointed it out! The security room scene where they're trashing on Billy is the TH-cam comment section! Full of naysayers and griping trolls trying to point out logic where none exists

Gremlins 2 was not what I expected. It was not what I wanted. But I loved it nonetheless. It did not feel like a sequel to Gremlins so much as it felt like a *response* to the first Gremlins movie which was so incredibly novel back then.
I’m gonna go on record here, it’s more enjoyable, it’s more polished and it’s added far more to the franchise than the first. Look at all the merch and characters loads more come from 2. From the first stripe and gizmo that’s it. Look I love both film but 2 knew what it was and said fuck let’s go mental. And I’ll love it till the day I die.

The Gremlins movies were great horror comedies. And I have watched the second movie more then the first mainly because it was batshit insane. I can quote most of the great lines, and I loved the stab they took at parents hating the first movie, and Hulk Hogan!
Also, Cates shows true skill as a comic actress, which she also displayed to great affect in "Date With An Angel. Sad she was never given more of a chance, beyond just a few films, to show off her comic skills in film.
In the UK, for the video release, they cut out the Hulk Hogan part and replaced it with a similar scene with John Wayne telling off the Gremlins, they even put togehter something like that for when it wasn't on the cinema anymore, just shows the amount of thought and ideas Joe Dante and his team had going through thier minds when making this lol
This is what a sequel should be - something different. Don't just redo the original with a few cosmetic changes. If I wanted the original, I'd watch the original.

If you, gentle reader, are not afraid of non-horror movies, and can bear the foolishness and shortsightedness of times past, you will find the DNA of _Gremlins 2…_ …and maybe you’ll get as much of a kick out of _Hellzapoppin'_ as I do!
I honestly didn't get the hate for this movie!? i loved it when i 1st saw it as a kid and i loved it when i saw it last month as a kinda of old dude.... i really think its time for a Gremlins 3!!!
I think for me the six year gap between Gremlins and Gremlins 2 probably had me scratching my head why this was more comedic and at 14 at the time I hadn't gotten the grasp of tongue in check and "meta" humor. Now in retrospect I have a better appreciation for its tone.
Gremlins 2 has no business being as awesome as it is. By all rights it is guilty of one of the worst mistakes in writing. Something comic books suffer from immensely. The Malcolm conundrum. They only ever asked if they could, never if they should. For that reason we get Crossovers like Archie vs the Predator (which is a real thing) Noone in this movie ever stoppped and reflected in the creative process. They just asked if they could do it and then went with it. So here is the one thing that saved this movie: unbridled creativity. Every bit of this movie just oozed creativity and fun ideas. It's basically Animaniacs the movie. And it turned a movie that should be bad into something rivaling the original. And something i can if in the right mood enjoy even more as the first Gremlins.
When I was little I wanted to see the Octoman movie the Al Lewis clone was showing. I was six? or seven, and read about it in a back issue of famous monsters I got at a garage sale. When I saw it on the movie later that year I jumped out of my pants. Another reason to love this sequel

The music playing when the "electrical" gremlin first acquires his abilities is so awesome.

For 2 hours- this movie is giving you it's all. Non stop entertainment. So much bang for your buck and so much entertainment millage per min!

I have probably watched 2 more than 1. I also prefer Roger Moore as James Bond to Sean Connery. One is much more silly and enjoyable than the other.

I think she quit on her own. Last appearance was in her friend's Jennifer Jason Lee's directorial debut The Anniversary Party in 2001.

This makes a great double feature. Because that second movie needs to be fun to counter any restlessness.
