It took me 12 years to figure out this same issue after purchasing my 2012 Grand Cherokee new stalled since day 1 of ownership back to dealer multiple times under warranty could not find problem after warranty expired to to multiple mechanics swapped out every sensor fuel pump cat relays and thousands spent but no fix Last mechanic told me he thinks it’s the transmission as sometimes mine had no acceleration response Just last week October 2023 I did what you did and never had a stall since. I just came across your video one week after I fixed my ignition also after 12 years trying ! This is the first video I found relating to this issue so I hope many Jeep owners will see this fix which will save them a lot of money and more importantly save them from being in a bad accident having a dangerous stalling problem
Jeep needs to hire you! Thanks for your information. Their mechanics were clueless. After taking them my vehicle multiple times, it’s fixed thanks to you.
Thank you Dave. You are one of the few people left that uses critical thinking skills. We have had the same thing on our 2012 grand Cherokee overland. It's scary when it stalls around an on ramp. My dealer had no clue either. Thank you for posting this video
Sir thank you so much.... I was late for work my job is real funny about being late... I went to TH-cam and found you.. I did exactly what you told me truck stop it right up so thank you!
Great idea, going to give it a try… Quick question, did you notice that the Jeep tends to stall more in the City (stopping at lights and going and stopping) as I have never had mine stall on the highway, only when slowing down…
Hi there. This is the same situation with me and tonnnns of other people online. It only stalls when slowing down (usually when going 35+ and then slowing all the way down). Did you try this trick and has it worked? I just picked up my jeep from the dealership..they test drove it a bunch and could not recreate the problem. So I had to pick it up, but I did this direct key fab start trick and will keep doing it this way. let me know if you did and what you found
@@wavdav57 nope 2 weeks after being at dealer it did it again crazy , no codes no engine light dealer said it has to happen when they have which it won’t cause it happens after a couple of weeks
I have been able to replicate the issue. I have two roundabouts on my way to work that while I slow down from 55 mph, at about the 35 MPH mark the RPMs fall to zero. So far I have watched my Tach and caught the stall twice by shifting to Neutral. I have had the same stall using the FOB and push button. Unfortunately you will at some point have the same stall with the key. This is a transmission related issue. either with the TCM, or valve body in the tranny itself. No codes or indication you have stalled, expect engine not running. I have a 5.7 GC Limited X, 2012. I have tried to solve this problem for 4 years now, but have only this year actually been able to catch it and know when it will happen. Its always when the tranny is shifting back down the gears, gets hung up either in 4, 3 gear coming down and then drops to zero rpm. I am going to keep working on trying to figure this out, but I know its not the ignition switch, fuel relay, etc. When it gets warmer I am going to leave it with the dealer and have them do a deep dive into the tranny valve body and TCM. All my fuel pump relays recalls have been completed. Believe me, this is a scary engine off issue when you are usually performing a maneuver with the car that requires brakes and then acceleration. In total I would say I have had this happen more than a dozen times over the years, and its always the same slowing down scenario.
Sounds like a different issue than mine,. I had stalling at all different RPMs and was unrelated to any gear changes. It stalled at all different speeds including many times just cruising at 70 MPH on the freeway.
I’ve been having the same problem when driving and driving off the highway exit as I’m turning it will stall then I pull over put it in park and it starts right up till it happens again in a month or so this is crazy and I did the fuel pump relay recall did you find out what it can be thank you in advance I even tried starting the vehicle with the key fab same thing happened
@@joemerendino3021 exact same issue as mine. One of the things you can do next time, while you're still rolling shift to neutral and press the brake pedal enough to disengage the park/starter lock. Engine fires back up, shift back to drive and you're off. I've done this dozens of times. Saves you from fully stopping and restarting. Granted you have to be comfortable doing that while you're handling the car with no power steering. But its an option. Another thing I do it while I'm slowing down I shift to neutral and that tricks the tyranny to reset the gears. Then below 25 mph. Shift back to drive and then accelerate away. Again, if you're comfortable doing that. It's my workarounds I use. Good luck.
the dealers knew this.. they just wanted to charge you for big expensive jobs. I have the exact same problem. A tow truck operator told me how to use my key phob in place of the push button.
TH-camrs were more helpful than our local Jeep dealership. I will never buy another Jeep just because our local dealer just dismissed us saying “We don’t service cars that are more than 10 years old.” What the hell, are you serious? How bad don’t you want our business?
I knooow I was just thinking this. How did my fucking dealership not already know this possible solution??? Its like a super common issue with like thousands of cars between 2011-2013 or more
is the situation like this? First i have a 2012 overland with the hemi. what happens is when i go to start it, it WILL start but then instantly stall. Only if i cycle the ignition to off then on again it will start and stay running. If I do not cycle it, it will turn the engine like crazy and not start at all. until i cycle it off then on again.
My 2012 Grand Cherokee Limited does the exact same thing that you just described. It does it at least once a day or more. Just after starting, never while driving. After watching this video, I popped out my start button and will try starting it with the key in for the next several days to see if that does the trick.
@@mattdugan13 i found if u press and HOLD the start button it works perfectly. Not just push but push and HOLD. Hold the button in until it turns over and starts running. I have had zero issues since then.
You have to change out that start and stop Button take that panel off and remove it.. if you go to TH-cam There's a gentleman on they're doing it on a 2012 Jeep grand Cherokee
