    There was indeed supposed to be a third Fantasia centered around world music. Lorenzo, The Little Matchgirl, and the amazing short about the South African children flying their kites, "One By One" that premiered on The Lion King 2's DVD I believe were all meant to be a part of it. I really do hope they decide to pick something like that up again someday.

      Dillon Ohlemiller Agreed. But I remember, Disney animation was in a very tough time at that point. The dark era of Home on the Range and all of those Disney sequels. 😆 That was when they closed their Florida animation studio and it looks like 2D animation was about to die off entirely. They have managed to find their ground with both 2D and 3D in the past few years though. I think if they wanted to do a third Fantasia now with all this new experimental animation, it could work.

    Ffffffffffff, it's a chameleon not a gecko.
    Also, you clearly haven't watched or read "Marley & Me." John and Jenny get Marley after they have been married for a few years, and the story is a slice of life take on how this dog influenced their lives and relationship as they go through life. It's one of my favourite books.

    • @Wawagirl17
      @Wawagirl17 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie, and that was my thought too. There's plenty of stories about a dog+male owner relationship changing once a girlfriend/wife comes into the picture, but "Marley & Me" isn't it, since as you said, they don't get the dog until after they're married. It's much more of a "family and their dog" story.

    Get a Horse! was shown in front of Frozen and that was a PACKED theater, FULL of adults, and the adults, the ADULTS were cracking up way more than the kids were. The kids were giggling sure but the adults were having a blast. It's funny-I know so many people who have that mindset of "oh Disney is just for kids, animation is just for kids" but shorts like these, they should remind people that no. They're for everyone. After all, as Walt himself said, you're dead if you aim just for kids. Adults are only kids grown up anyways.

      @@Markimark151 What's more depressing to me is what I've always taken to be the central theme of the original short story: No need to worry about earthly misery because everything ended fine. Look! The Little Match Girl is in heaven now!
      I really hope that's not what Hans Christian Andersen was going for, but I could never shake the feeling and it causes me to feel rather more negatively about the story than I would otherwise.

    • @hunterolaughlin

      Really? Because when the category for Best Animated Short Film was introduced in 1933, Disney’s first Technicolor animated short Flowers and Trees (1932) was the first recipient of that award and throughout the 30s it was Disney’s Silly Symphonies that were dominating the category from 1934 to 1940 with shorts such as The Three Little Pigs (1933), The Tortoise and the Hare (1934), Three Orphan Kittens (1935), The Country Cousin (1936), The Old Mill (1937), Ferdinand the Bull (1938) and The Ugly Duckling (1939). It slowed down eventually in the 40s, 50s and 60s with only 2 Disney animated shorts from the 40s and 60s decades and one from the 50s decade winning in the category with Lend a Paw (1941), Der Fueher’s Face (1942), Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom (1953), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) and It’s Tough to Be a Bird (1969). Actually check this link here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Animated_Short_Film?wprov=sfti1

    The Little Match Girl was a short on a The Little Mermaid DVD I used to watch often as a kid. Although I was really young, I understood how sad the story was and thought there was either a happy end or a sad end. Oddly, I preferred the sadder interpretation as a kid. I like Paperman a lot, but my favorite short is The Little Match Girl because of that sad nostalgic feeling.

    There’s also an additional Mickey Mouse cartoon available on the Digital Copy of the “Walt Disney Animation Shorts Collection” Blu-ray called “Runaway Brain” that has never had a wide release since the Walt Disney Treasures DVD “Mickey Mouse In Living Color Vol. 2”. Released theatrically in front of “A Goofy Movie”, “A Kid in King Arthur’s Court” and surprisingly a few years later with “George of the Jungle”, Leonard Maltin’s introduction from the DVD sums it up best in that it’s “not your parents’ Mickey Mouse cartoon”. With it’s fast pace and a horror movie motif it definitely stands out from many other modern Mickey projects.

    What I like about the shorts is that there's sometimes more creative freedom given to the creators behind them than what they're afforded on a full production movie. Rather than making something stick together with an overarching theme/plot/look/feel they can go and make something really different and unique.
