      Symphony of the Night is one of the most overrated games ever made. Most of the assets that make it liked, including the story itself, come straight out of Rondo of Blood. One particular complaint I have is that half the areas of the upside-down castle play Lost Painting, and that most of the blitz-input spells are unreliable and inconsistent. Plus, you can break the PSP version of the game very easily in its first section just by skipping the whole scene with Death taking your equipment, and then the entire game becomes trivial in short order. This is leaving aside the whole shield rod/alucard shield effect, which falls just short of god mode, or the fact that most of the upside-down castle is skippable and just the same content as before with tougher enemies.

      Goldie Tamamo I agree, but there's a reason why it's so popular. Sotn resurrected a concept that otherwise failed with Simon's Quest and made a name for the series that effected every 2D castlevania to come after. It's well designed and the attention to detail is amazing, on the level of how Samus is animated in Metroid. You had so many weapons and powers to obtain, and there were even secrets like using the dark metamorphosis spell to absorb blood and level up the Muramasa sword. So yeah, the game is that popular for a good reason

      First of all, you can find glitches in almost every game. Games that allow you to warp to the end, or get powerful weapons at the beginning or whatever. Final Fantasy IV has a glitch that allows you to duplicate weapons. Talk about making the game easier. And anyone that has ever played this game and tried to complete it to 200+ percent has found more joy in actually playing the game then skipping half of it just so they can talk shit about it. The music, the story, the graphics, gameplay, and over-all concept are what make this game so popular. Just about any top 10 Castlevania list is going to have SoTN at the top of their list. I know a lot of people that like to jus ttalk trash about every popular game out there, but there are reasons they are popular. So get off your high horse and accept that it is number one on this list and many others because of all those things I mentioned as well asthe number of players that purchased the game. You are an absolute idiot if you think otherwise.

And you didn't remix anything, you took the *whole freaking video* from Nikos Tsak (his was uploaded 26.5.2014, yours 25.6.2014). It's not his song either (it's Rasmus Hedegaards) but atleast he's not capslocking "MY SONG LISTEN TO IT OMG".

      I recall liking "Curse of Darkness" a lot more than the other PS2 title, it might just be because I never played that one(?) - I don't quite recall. I can't say as though I was super impressed unfortunately (though I like this game!). I was a bit put off by boss difficulty and lack of direction (although this was probably my fault). I also was reeling off from the Metroid-vania style that was "Symphony of the Night", which I miss.
      "Lords of Shadows" (1, because it's the only LoS game) was where I fell in love with Castlevania again,
      but K - O - N - A - M - I... so there's that... (sigh).
      Koji Igarashi and "Bloodstained"... so... !!!

      John Yuma Curse of Darkness was my favorite and I've been playing since Simons quest I feel like I owned 2 back then? Anyways CoD was real good, story may have been better in others? maybe? but CoD has tons of weapons, a good variety of Innocent Devils (Rasetz and Gargoyle kick ass - Crimson is good as well and Corpsey is just broken). Isaac was also a enjoyable villain and Ng+ Trevor is sweet.
      Symphony of the night was good as well for 2D.

    • @GoldieTamamo
      @GoldieTamamo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Aria is a blast, but sadly, also quite short, as an unfortunate compromise for being a GBA title (but see both Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance for just how much of an improvement it was, both visually and mechanically, over its handheld predecessors). Aria also runs into this unique problem that many of the fun souls are much, much too rare, and by the time you get any of them to spawn for you, you've usually gained enough levels to blaze through what would otherwise have been challenging areas of the game, meaning that if you don't want to grind to be over-level, you're going to miss out on a lot of content anyway, due to the finicky RNG.

    Symphony of the Night is so good. I wish Konami would go back to making the traditional metroidvania Castlevania experience after they're done with this Lord of Shadow style. Harmony of Dissonance was ok, but just imagine how big of a game they could put out in the traditional 2d sprite style as a full on console release instead of just a downloadable mini-title.

    • @virginiatreichler6033
      @virginiatreichler6033 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i totally agree though i also dont want them to completly give up on 3D castlevania games. It can translate well, lament of Innocence being a good example as well as curse of darkness (even if the story was meh, it was still a fun game overall)

    • @SomeCasualMagic
      @SomeCasualMagic 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They said they are done with Lords of Shadow. Sadly though the ending to LoS2 was quite lack luster and didn't really explain what would happen next, so it feels very incomplete. Hopefully they release some kind of DLC that gives a true ending and actually makes the story feel complete.
      I agree that they could do a ton with the traditional 2D sprite style. It doesn't take as much effort development wise to make a 2D sprite style game as it does a 3D one, and with so much to take advantage of, it could truly be a huge experience both gameplay wise and story wise.

    • @Blakobness
      @Blakobness 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did enjoy Lament of Innocence quite a bit, and while Lord of Shadows wasn't awful I felt like it very much just forgot its roots as a Castlevania game to experiment with the more combo and combat reliant games of the time. You just don't get that feel like you would in Symphony of the Night, like when you'd just find a random weapon out of nowhere and just start learning all the interesting things it can do, like the Shield Rod and the like. Secrets and the like were all much more satisfying as well.

    Harmony of Dissonance has a special place in my heart, despite its hit or miss chiptune soundtrack. Juste Belmont is a very powerful Belmont, with Sypha Belnades's magic being the most prominent in him and making for some interesting sub weapon-spell-book combinations (although the only 3 sub-weapons I ever use in the game are the throwing knives, the crosses and the Sacred Fist). Playing as Maxim is also fun, as it's almost like playing a 2D Ninja Gaiden Metroidvania. Simon is the Boss Rush mode may be slower than the other two, only limited to his subweapons and no magic and have the shittiest control over his jumps, but he deals far more damage and takes less damage, so he's practically like a tank.

    Mojo videos are probably the number 1 for Top 10 Lists and you'd be hard pressed to find a TH-camr that has never heard the name. You guys are amazing and you never disappoint. With that being said, since you are so widely renowned across the internet, I would suggest that you make sure that you pronounce basic words correctly. Aria is not pronounced like Area but like AH-ree-ah. It's a solo piece in an opera and Castlevania went through quite a phase of having musical themed titles. "Rondo of Blood" "Symphony of the Night" "Harmony of Dissonance" etc. I just think that when you pronounce a simple word like that incorrectly, it lessens the impact of the video. Other than that, I thought this was a fantastic list.

      Super Castlevania 4 felt a little too easy, to me with the diagonal whip attacks, but then, I'm a Dracula's Curse kinda Belmont, so I'm used to being commited to my horizontal axis unless I've got the axe or holy water (or Sypha/Alucard). I did like how 'different' some of Super Castlevania 4's stages felt, compared to other entries--like the one with all the humanoid ghost enemies--while still somehow managing to feel aesthetically like the first Castlevania.
      A good compromise between styles is probably Rondo of Blood, which you can play on the PSP in "Dracula X Chronicles." It's still a linear action game like pre-Symphony, but it has two alternate routes through each stage, two alternative bosses to fight in each stage, and an alternate character with her own playstyle. Additionally, most (though not all) of the pits are reworked to shift you into a lower route of the map, Sonic style, instead of being an instakill, and those that result in a kill are lethal because they fall into a hazard like water or spikes, somewhat akin to how Prince of Persia handled its pits.

    Castlevania Judgment is an underrated game. It was amazingly fun and good for what it was. I loved that game and all the character designs :). Just my opinion though :p

    Honestly, a perfect 3D Castlevania game in my eyes is basically Dark Souls.

      I love dark souls but I should definitely give some classic castlevania a test run. This shit is dope!

      Nison545 I agree completely. I was trying to think in my mind how I would make a good 3D Castlevania and I realized It would just have to be almost exactlyyy like dark souls. I sometimes play SOTN of the night for a good while and then go to play dark souls and I feel like I already souled it up too hard as it is and feel warn out from that kind of game.

      Jesse Bowman symphony of the night is the one you wanna run. Those GBA and DS ones look cool, I wanna emulate them but don’t have a computer anymore. Oh well

    I loved Curse of Darkness. The ID system was very well implemented and tons of fun. The weapon forging was also a blast!

    Castlevania Lords Of Shadows plot, art, music and atmosphere it's just poetry, a piece of art in motion, easily one of my favorite games of all times
