Unfortunately they had to sacrifice any romance between Richter and Annette from the games. I really don't know if the writers know how to write romance very well in the Castlevania series.
I mean just take a look at Trevor and sypha from the OG and how rushed/out of nowhere it was in S3 & S5

On one hand, it wouldn't be much of an adaptation if all the players weren't there. On the other hand, it's kind of hard to picture it in my mind's eye how Grant Danasty would've worked in to all the fight choreography with his sweet flips and tiny knives.
And Annette's question about "Who's Dracula" has me wondering if we've really strayed from the games' lore of Dracula constantly coming back, or if the Belmonts are just really good at keeping his resurrections on the downlow.

    • @Migsterium
      @Migsterium 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

In the games, Dracula is the personification of chaos which is why he is resurrected over and over again during times of great unrest.
But in the Netflix series, Dracula was just the most powerful vampire of his time. Another character from Nocturne sums it up nicely with the phrase "evil always wins"; the Belmonts can kill thousands of vampires but there will always be more. It stands to reason that in the time gap between Trevor's and Richter's adventures, there have been many other Dark Lords, and over time most people forgot about Dracula.

Actually, Annette asking who Dracula is makes perfect sense. She is from the US, was raised as a slave and then went to be taught magic at a young age. Her having no idea who Dracula was makes sense for her character especially if he hasn’t been resurrected. I actually expect to see Dracula in Nocturne in a cameo or coming in to challenge the big bad. Remember that he is still alive and was going to live in England with Lisa at the end of season 4. Would make sense for him to still be around.

In SotN Olrox is a bald vampire in the castle, not an indigenous man. Also, Olrox’s name is based off of Orlock, or Graff Orlock from 1922’s Nosferatu, which is why he was bald in the game.
Also, Erzsebet Bathory appeared in Castlevania Bloodlines as Elizabeth Bartley which takes place in 1917. She was listed as Dracula’s niece she is trying to resurrect her uncle in that game.

The character was completely remade, not just by appearance, but also by personality, going from a rambunctious crazed psycho in the games to a more collected, methodical and intelligent guy in the show.
I'd say also Hector pretty much being stripped off all fighting ability was also a big change (this time a poor choice, in my opinion), seeing how in the game he could single-handedly defeat Dracula. Would've been nice if he had at least 10% of the badassery he had in the game.

Bruh, there are two types of people who hate the show.
      1. People who loved the first show and hate Nocturne for how "shallow" and "inclusive" it was. These people have rose tinted glasses as the previous Castlevania show was just like Nocturne. It's just that CV3 and Curse of Darkness (the games the first Netflix show "adapted") are less known than Rondo of Blood/Symphony of the Night (what is supposedly tackled in Nocturne). So less people knew about the changes and tolerated them. Meanwhile Rondo/Symphony feature Richter (who also became playable in Smash), Alucard and Maria. Absolute fan favorites. Not only that, Symphony of the Night is by far the most popular if not iconic game in the series with its influences still present to this day. So more people know about its story and characters, thus changes are easily spotted.
      2. Hardcore Castlevania fans who played the games and know the lore hate/abhor both shows equally, I can assure you.

I will say, despite Netflix's rampant agenda pushers in their creative department, I do like Isaac's and Marie's renditions. They actually didn't just shoe horn them in but gave them a background. Isaac was met during Dracula's travel. This expanded the world through his inclusion alone. His backstory and motivation also was realistic in terms of world setting which gives depth to his character but also solidifies him as part of that world rather than a mere meta-commentary tool to toot the creative department's ego. The same can be said with Annette but I will say that the show was poorly executed because the people responsible for it were just sacrificing the integrity of a good story for ego blasting. I mean, I was always confused why Richter was saying stupid stuff in episode 1 alone. Like "I don't need to understand you to believe in you" like they're just making him that meta-commentary tool again for sexism. SMH. This is why I hate Western creative department. Just focusing on easy clout. Never mind the quality.

Nocturne's vampire messiah (Elizabeth Bartley) is certainly different than the game....so far.
My prediction for Nocturne is that this Vampire Messiah business will attract the attention of Dracula in some way. Or, possibly, a certain disgruntled vampire will 'warn' Dracula of this 'messiah' which he will scoff at as someone who believes in science over faith.
Though they've certainly gone in a different, better, direction with Olrox in Nocturne I can easily see him 'tempting' Dracula with tails of the vampire messiah.
As fans of the series know, Dracula is the oddity of vampires and the 'chosen' of Death. Or rather poster vampire.
Though I do not see Dracula as wanting to 'overthrow' or fight the Vampire Messiah, especially as in the first series we clearly see he is 'tired' of 'small' vampires....I imagine he could resurface if she is killed to 'take control' and then becomes the 'new bad guy' with a new goal or drive. After all, we can safely doubt he turned Lisa when they were given a second chance, so he would have been on his own for a while.
Alternatively, maybe after the Vampire Messiah (Elizabeth Bartley) is killed it is revealed that she was somehow connected to Dracula (as in the game she is his 'niece', however that worked). Dracula could swear revenge and Alucard could enter a sort of lull...depending on the scale, and how Dracula wants revenge.
tl;dr - I will be mildly shocked if Dracula does not return as some sort of 'evil' or 'factor' in Nocturne as he is a constant in just about every Castlevania game.

Annette's character change greatly supplemented the backdrop of the French Revolution and the themes of freedom, especially as it pertains to master and slavery. It's also adding a historical aspect to the show that was non-existent in the source material's character, with the aim of making her more relatable/complex. Her character change adds a much needed "depth" that the original lacked and complements the beat of the story. Plus it's refreshing seeing skin colour representation in characters who aren't just "background" fodder. These characters actually have major roles and arcs that are captivating ☝🏽

I played the games and I agree with you regarding just creating new characters instead of retconning the old ones. They were creating new characters for the series anyways, why retcon the old ones? For Isaac from the first series, I wanted him to be a new character, keep his story, dilemmas and resolution with Hector the same, while having "game" Isaac in the series as well, who still wanted revenge. The problem with my , though, is that it would be leaving it unresolved (and would create more questions for non-game fans), or then they would have to continue the series with Hector and have a adaptation of the Curse of Darkness game as he was the protagonist.
For Annette in Nocturne, her backstory/side story I liked without having her to be a retcon. I mean, Mizrak is an original character created for Nocturne, as well as some others, what's the issue?
TV/movie industry have this habit of retconning old characters, but create new characters that are original to the show instead of keeping the old characters as they were and just create new characters anyways. (Smallville, Supergirl, etc.)

If I was the producer for Nocturne, I would make Tera Annette, while making her Maria’s big sister. The 2 sisters were raised by their Aunt, after their parents were killed when Maria was only a baby. The Aunt, even did raised Richter, after his mom was killed, while also being BFF’s with Juste. Later after meeting Iris, who is the show’s Annette renamed. The Aunt dies saving her 2 nieces & adopted son from Orlox. By the end of the first season. Annette tells Richter to take care of Maria, as she stays to get turned by Elizabeth in front of him. This really traumatized him more than with his mother. @@rd116sno other animated media talks about race and slavery like this. I loved it too. It was very bold of them to bring race in to the mix , but it’s really well done

Just hope they bring Dracula as a villain.
Can this still be called Castlevania without him?
It's like making a show about Halo without Master chief or Devil may cry without Dante.

to be honest the changes in Annette and Isaac did not bother me at all they make the show unique and not a copy paste of the games yet still conserving the atmosphere of dread and terror that is castlevania, Hector was kind of annoying but he got better, I loved how they did not just make Annette into damsel in distress like in Rondo of Blood, and they gave Olrox a personality he was not just a minion hope they keep doing this adaptions for long time, maybe even seeing an adaptation of Ecclessia, Bloodlines, Portrait of Ruin (fixing Johnathan personality) or maybe the Of Sorrow games, and put Galamoth as a Villain too that he was never with Dracula

Hector is one of the worst characters in the Netflix series and has a ton of dislike from game fans. Don't even get me started on his disgusting relationship with Lenore - the worst Castlevania character.
Hector's story from the game Curse of Darkness is much better

I think the Netflix version of Carmilla was more likely inspired by The Vampire Hunter D series. In that series, Carmilla was a backstabber just like she was in this show.

I’m here for the overhaul of Annette to be honest. A damsel in distress with only two lines doesn’t seem that exciting.

Personally i like the changes they made in the anime adaptation , now it doeant feel like you repeatedly do the same thing over and over again ( killing dracula again and again ) , also the changes on the characters definately give them more character 😂

Ok I’m more liking Isaac from the Netflix series because it was him I was introduce to Castlevania Isaac. He was more like a willing pawn but his development make him his own character and self, seeing the hideous face of life as a horrible cruel world and he was shown that there is some wonderful things of life just because you see horrible things doesn’t mean they can’t be any wonderful things.
And ask for death I feel like it was much better that he was the final villain. Instead of being a servant made him more threatening more a big deal but the funny thing, though on how he acted, he definitely sounds like the typical shit post talking about call how fucked up it is of humanity and saying that he’s going to smother some guy’s girlfriend to death with his soul after death shit him out.
All in all the Castlevania Netflix series is my introduced to Castlevania

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in the games Dracula never really becomes a good guy, and enters his 100 year reincarnation cycle so he can keep trying to destroy humanity, all the way into the 21 century. That has to be the biggest, most surprising change to the story.
