A long time ago men had an insane amount of testosterone and all of their food was the best in the world. So I hear what you’re saying but look how huge of a guy it took to lift this. Could just be an old Norse story or an exaggeration of the shock seeing someone lift it up then to break their back. Perhaps the guy never even lifted it up and just broke his back and in honor the people that seen it stretched the story for his honor. Perhaps he fell and it look like he carried it, too. Not saying it didn’t happen but 1,000 years ago… I doubt there is anyone alive to confirm 100%.

So many people in this thread are scientifically illiterate. Humans don't majorly evolve in times measured in centuries nor would the need to wear heavy armor and be in combat mean the average person was even near Hafthor's size. Most vikings didn't even wear great big heavy armor but had leather jerkins and such in addition to their shields.
genetics play a huge role. this guy is massive due to hard work and good genes. Idk why people always have to say peds/roids just cause they're too lazy to put in the work he does so he had to be cheating. I get done people do use them, but these guys are also tested a lot.
Jeezy 1523 You are 100% right. I have worked with these guys as an photographer for 3 years, and their "dope" is food...a lot of the right food. And as you say, genes.
I just saw this video saying that they broke the world record of 453 or something like that kgs Then i just remembered this guy was so much better #THEMOUNTAIN
this is late but to everyone’s talking about steroids, yes every top strongman uses steroids. Hafthor has “admitted” to using steroids. guess what, no one cares. in a sport like strongman, taking steroids is the equivalent of your Flintstone vitamins. I could take steroids right now and sit in my couch all day and i’d still look the same. they aren’t a magic muscle potion. they still have to work harder than any other human in the world, constantly eat, hell they even have to take rests as efficiently as possible. not sure why everyone hates steroids so much, if you don’t like them, don’t take them. they aren’t unfair when everyone else is using them.
Not trying to bash on him. He is veeeeeeeeery strong. But without the supprt of the wooden things holding the log he couldn't do it. The log was touching the wooden thingy ceveral times...and no i aint no party crasher..just making a point!
Batman I mean if the support hadn't been there and if for some reason the log just falls, it kills the guy for sure, it's a 1.4 ton log, that's 2,800 pounds.
That is true, but something you have to remember is that the wood is there for support as well as balance. For the log to physically move with his step, it has to be him moving it on his back, an object of that weight cannot be "Slid" across the support beams. It's entirely his strength when the log is moving.
I pretty much said to everyone a good bit back that Hafthor was my pick to become the strongest man in the world great acheivements like this inch him ever closer to dethroning Big Z and he now is a true viking legend.
I think those who say he's dragging it along the support and thereby making the lift easier are wrong - it is exactly the opposite; it is harder to drag the log than moving it by an actual lift above the support. This is based on my meager knowledge about physics and friction. Anyone who is more qualified than I in regards to physics, please disprove my argument by telling me why I am wrong :)
Well I am very impressed with hes accomplishment, but they said that the viking fucking carried that kind of weight around? This guy only took 5 very small steps, so I say props for the act but it can't be compared to that viking thing.
***** And no bet needed, I can tell you with full confidence I wouldn't be able to even lift it an inch let alone move it. If you read my comment like a person with common sense and not a kid with 4th grade English, you'd see that I am very impressed with his accomplishment but I don't think the comparison with that viking story is adequate.
that viking you speak of took 3 steps and broke his back and there is nothing that say's how long. þór however (you know the god) was able to take five!
Thank you everybody for the support in this video, it has been a very rewarding and a great trip for us so far. I promise to be more supportive with my youtube friends in the future, cause now I really see the usefulness of having you out there, even love the trolls. Thank you very much everybody. th-cam.com/video/bNHJMuWTckg/w-d-xo.html
Just think, a thousand years ago a Viking managed to lift a monster of that size without the access to modern day training equipment, such an amazing feat of strength. Well done to Mr Half-Thor Son of the Bear.
A professor told me one time that the nordic (vikings) had a game to prove their masculanity in the medieval era. They cut the belly, get the point of one of their guts and tie around a tree,on a hang.So they walk around, until the pain seems umbeareable. Was a competition,by the way.
interesting how in the tv show strongest men in history last year they completely dismissed this lift and tried to say nick best was the only one to do it
By no means do I want to diminish his enormous record - congratz man! But for me it takes something else to be "greater" than a legend than to do 5 mini-baby-steps with securing instruments and the weight placed exactly so that he just has to lift it 2 centimeters... maybe nobody today might be able to do that but ancient legends would probably be ashamed of how this looks...
Agree, and even during the steps it seems the log touches the stand. I expected something mor spectacular. However this is an incredible achievement too!
Thing is that legend story probably did not happen at all. Even if it's partially true how did they know how much the log weighted ? Certainly not over 600 kg. This video is impressive and just shows how far a human being can go if it's motivated and focused. Brilliant
Honestly, the guy who tried to do this before him went 3 steps and broke his spine, and now can't do anything. I'd rather NOT see halfthor in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, and not be able to star in Game of Thrones.
I'm just a tad confounded here. I only count five steps which matches Orm Storolfson's stories(minus the broken back part), not break them? Did I miss a step? Just confused, inform me, don't hate. :(
I know I'm being that guy, and this is super fucking impressive, but shouldn't we know the conditions of Orm Storolfson's lift? I'm sure it wasn't set up like that... unless I'm wrong. You can't really say you broke or even tied the guy's lift if the conditions were different
Lightitupp1 well, if the guy took 3 steps and his back broke, that's not overly absurd... saying he took 100 steps, raised it on the boat and ravaged all of the village women would be pretty assinine
***** It is a rather absurd claim as; 1) People weren't as tall/heavy as they are now and especially considering this guy is a giant.(and weighs 400pounds) 2) The fact that he even rivals him in strenght is highly improbable as they didn't have the knowledge about strenght training as we do now. 3) This guy is on steroids which massively improve performance. 4) Virtually no evidence
Lightitupp1 people, on average, were not. to say there were no anomalies? people, on average over the entire world, are pretty small we have no idea what they may have been doing, we don't know enough about their practices, granted they wouldn't have fully refined anabolics to our modern medicine levels, there are ways to create crude, milder ingested versions, which through trial-and-error and conquest, wouldn't be unthinkable; you can make steroids tomorrow, if you want, with pretty basic techniques like you said there is no evidence, but there is no evidence for anything earlier than around 1800 that didn't leave something physical, unless you take historical writings with some stock
Let me say it like this. The US government has done a study and estimated there has been around 107 billion humans who walked the Earth since our evolution. If we arrange them from the Strongest to the Weakest, Thor Bjornsson will be the 1st out of 107 Billion. Or in other words he is the Strongest Human to have ever lived.
they should have filmed the whole log not just the part around him. There could have been 2 other guys one on the left and the other on the right to help him carry the log, but the camera didn't get it

112hidde112
We have to ask Eurosport, but it will air in 92 countries.
112hidde112
Just got the right answer, it will Air in about 6 weeks in 92 countries.
photographingtime Awesome, thanks mate! Hope I don't forget like last time ^_^.

I imagine how dangerous he could be if his name is FullThor rather than HafThor
Man... He is Superhuman 🙏👊
Haf means ocean.
And as you say, genes.
sorry buddy but not only has he admitted to steroid use, this aint possible at all without roids
1:10 Bane from the Dark Knight is talking on the microphone? :o
Hafthor Bjornsson, making the Mountain look weak
He rides Elia
That jump at 52 sec was more impressive for a guy who is like 200kg and is 6,8
I just saw this video saying that they broke the world record of 453 or something like that kgs
Then i just remembered this guy was so much better
#THEMOUNTAIN
at 1:05 is it me or does it look like he's having a heart attack or some sort of chest pains or something?
I lifted a dumbbell once. Hahaha just kidding
this is late but to everyone’s talking about steroids, yes every top strongman uses steroids.
He would have broken his back without the support dude, that's the reason the wooden things are there for, safety first.
Mos Eisley Ah i see. Thank you for not calling me a moron or anything. Faith kind of restored in humanity!
Batman moron.
Cadê os cinco passos?
Where are the five steps ?
Maicon D' Lima Judges from SCL who was there approved the steps. You try with 1400 + lbs and do the same. :-D
Maicon D' Lima Calaboca Magada!
Conan the barbarian REMAKE with Haftor please and thank you! Make it dark and surreal
how to uploaded this video to that jukin media don´t cancel it on youtube?
Wow, MONSTER STRENGTH!!! : O !
Sick depth on that squat. I've seen a few people with that range of motion at my gym.
Is he shouting VICTORY! just like the soldiers in Mount and blade? Sounds JUST like it :P
forsure lol
thought the same thing
What happened to him at 1:04 ? Did he have a stroke of some kind ? He looked like he would fall for a moment.
This guy only took 5 very small steps, so I say props for the act but it can't be compared to that viking thing.
you know what a hyperbole is?
***** I have no idea to be honest.
The record was 3 steps with it he carried it for 5 steps he beat the viking for 2
that viking you speak of took 3 steps and broke his back and there is nothing that say's how long. þór however (you know the god) was able to take five!
I bet the original Viking had knee wraps, compression wraps, etc. just like he did. With that said, this is still impressive as fuck.
yeah I'd love to see any of the people writing negative comments say it to dudes face.
about time someone updated this world record..
Well done to Mr Half-Thor Son of the Bear.
...is that Serbian in the beginning? I can hear someone saying "Samo piči! Samo piči!" (Just go, just go!)
this guy has to be from iceland lol
ah ah ah
It doesn't have to be Serbian, it can be any of the Slavic languages.
Aves Zephyr It is Serbian coz no one elese use "Piči" (PICHI)
igor latovljev Croatian does too
A professor told me one time that the nordic (vikings) had a game to prove their masculanity in the medieval era. They cut the belly, get the point of one of their guts and tie around a tree,on a hang.So they walk around, until the pain seems umbeareable. Was a competition,by the way.
I choose violence
I'd ask what the fuck you're even saying but it's a little bit late.. you know it's a Game of Thrones quote right...?
And the award for the saltiest most cancerous comment thread goes to
That was absolutely terrifying. Congratulations!
For those who don't speak metric, that log is more than 1400 pounds.
interesting how in the tv show strongest men in history last year they completely dismissed this lift and tried to say nick best was the only one to do it
More like Wholethor Björnsson. ;)
Regardless of the critics on how he did it....he still did it....fricken awesome!
The Mountain is a legend
Thing is that legend story probably did not happen at all. Even if it's partially true how did they know how much the log weighted ? Certainly not over 600 kg. This video is impressive and just shows how far a human being can go if it's motivated and focused. Brilliant
Honestly, the guy who tried to do this before him went 3 steps and broke his spine, and now can't do anything. I'd rather NOT see halfthor in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, and not be able to star in Game of Thrones.
implying that ancient legends aren't just... ancient legends that never actually happened.
I'm just a tad confounded here. I only count five steps which matches Orm Storolfson's stories(minus the broken back part), not break them? Did I miss a step?
Just confused, inform me, don't hate. :(
the old one was 3 steps.
Hafþór? More like BEYOND Thor
Haf = Ocean
þór = Thor
Thor's ocean?
Why the camera took him only in front?
Real viking power there :-)
The record that stood for 1000 years was 610 kg (approx.1342 lbs) for three steps. This is 640 kg (1408 lbs.) for five. Complete insanity.
I know I'm being that guy, and this is super fucking impressive, but shouldn't we know the conditions of Orm Storolfson's lift? I'm sure it wasn't set up like that... unless I'm wrong. You can't really say you broke or even tied the guy's lift if the conditions were different
as the story goes. it took 50 men to lift the log on his back. after three steps his back broke.
You also can't assert a, rather absurd claim, with virtually no evidence and expect rational people to believe it.
Lightitupp1
well, if the guy took 3 steps and his back broke, that's not overly absurd... saying he took 100 steps, raised it on the boat and ravaged all of the village women would be pretty assinine
***** It is a rather absurd claim as;
1) People weren't as tall/heavy as they are now and especially considering this guy is a giant.(and weighs 400pounds)
2) The fact that he even rivals him in strenght is highly improbable as they didn't have the knowledge about strenght training as we do now.
3) This guy is on steroids which massively improve performance.
4) Virtually no evidence
Lightitupp1
people, on average, were not. to say there were no anomalies? people, on average over the entire world, are pretty small
we have no idea what they may have been doing, we don't know enough about their practices, granted they wouldn't have fully refined anabolics to our modern medicine levels, there are ways to create crude, milder ingested versions, which through trial-and-error and conquest, wouldn't be unthinkable; you can make steroids tomorrow, if you want, with pretty basic techniques
like you said there is no evidence, but there is no evidence for anything earlier than around 1800 that didn't leave something physical, unless you take historical writings with some stock
The frames were trembling while he was walking... so, if physics is not just an opinion the frames were actually helping pushing the log up.
i bet they didn't have lifting belts 1000 years back then.
Yeah they didn't, hence why Orm broke his back on his third step
they didn't have cameras either, but they had allot of liars back then.
maggi þór legends and cameras or not; Hafthor has officially set a new record. Whatever Orm did doesn't even matter any longer after seeing this.
I wouldn't call those steps. Maybe stumbles.
Not saying I could do better... but...... yeah.
no steroids either
I'm confused... He's allowed to bounce it off the support beams several times while walking?
I don't think it's a good idea to put your back under suck pressure, it's just too much.
+SalveMonesvol People will do anything for World Record..
It's ridiculous how strong this man is
Let me say it like this. The US government has done a study and estimated there has been around 107 billion humans who walked the Earth since our evolution. If we arrange them from the Strongest to the Weakest, Thor Bjornsson will be the 1st out of 107 Billion. Or in other words he is the Strongest Human to have ever lived.
Viking power!!!!!!!!
You can come to the Semana Santa in Spain and you would help a lot.
thats 1410 pounds, so like 1 american then? hahaha
No like 1 European lmao like this fatty
The people calling this weak or lame probably couldn't even do a 1/3 or 1/4th the weight. This man is a beast.
dude, this is 650 KG the people calling him weak cannot even lift 1/10 of the weight!
Jon snow > the mountain
They don't compete...
L
they should have filmed the whole log not just the part around him. There could have been 2 other guys one on the left and the other on the right to help him carry the log, but the camera didn't get it
Then you can wait and see when it airs on Eurosport in 42 countries later this spring :)
There was judges on both sides
FOR AGATHAAAAaaAAAAaaAAAaaA!!!
Plot twist: Žydrūnas Savickas was the one who put the log on the stand before the event and carried it to the sawmill afterwards :D
how do we know if there weren't two guys lifting the other sides?
Ops and btw from that screen how can i know they are people in the right and left helping him?anyways gj for him and for you sillies!
Well, take it from one who was standing beside the supports - by the judges that made sure the log didn't touch ;)
Liv Maren Mæhre Vold Who knows,im one of them that dont trust allways but see what does the guy in arrow series, its all true.Respect who makes gym exercises! And that Iceland guy is one of them Cheers Thor!
were his steps as long as the previous record holders steps?
Damn, did you see the snow kick up during one of the steps...was this actually outside?
