Great tip, thanks so much. Seems obvious now but I hadn't thought of using compound clips like this before. I've been editing with FCPX since around 2012 but there's always something new to learn about it.
Hey this is great! I do this with Multicam clips by matching all the camera angles and also fixing up the audio on the master clip first, then just use that multicam clip as the source that gets edited into your project.
@@renzoviteri Multicam clips already act like this, so you get this functionality 'for free' if it's a multicam. So to change the color, you would step into the multicam and apply the color to that angle. Any changes to clips inside the multicam affect every clip that uses the multicam.
Question : I have 1 big roll which needs a lot of cuts so this compound clip is really helpful but I have Seperate audio . My audio is recorded externally via a mic and I usually schronynise both audio and video and start cutting clips but I was facing the same issue.. i have to paste every single setting. My question is : should i synchronize the clips and then grag that to the storyline and then make it a compound clip ? Or is there a better way ?
I recently discovered attributes were carried over for an entire compound clip (as you noted). Would this also work if I had separate takes, let's say five, and put all the individual clips on the timeline and then made a compound clip of those five, and added all the necessary attributes? What I'm thinking is I could then delete that compound clip from the timeline and then start working with the individual clips into my project. Would the attributes be attached to the separate individual clips?
So sorry, I just saw this comment! If I am understanding what you are saying correctly, I don't think that method would work unfortunately. The attributes only stay within the compound clip. However, (you may already know this) if you need to quickly get attributes across many clips you can copy one clip, and then select the clips you want the attributes on and press "Command + Shift + V" and that will allow you to paste attributes. Which may speed up your workflow a bit! Appreciate you watching!
Welcome How do I repeat a compound clip without pressing the reference new parent clip button because I am very tired of forgetting the button when I make a repeat and forget to press the button. I hope I find a solution.
They will all show up as long as they are all set to "Add". But Intersect is a great way to create more complex shapes with the mask tools you are given in FCP! The masks will only show where the two masks intersect, so you can create some pretty complex shapes if you know what you are doing. I must admit, this comment made me think I had done something completely wrong on my latest "rotoscope" tutorial in FCP 😂 I had to go double and triple check my work haha! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge and for watching as always!

Excellent trick indeed!
Thanks for watching!
this was my goto trick in Multicam interviews in early days.
Seriously such a time saver! Thanks for your support!
You first sync all angles, then drag the multicam clip to timeline, and then create a compound clip out of it, correct?

Cool bro like it
Duuuuude! 🤯
With multiple masks you have to change them to intersect, no? Or they won’t all show up.

@@TheFinalCutBro I'm no expert with motion, I'm decent enough with fcp though.
