Lifelong UNC fan and his words are exactly why I felt Carolina would win those games against Duke. The pressure on them to win would either propel them or completely dismantle those kids. Coach K should’ve just announced it at the end of the year instead of putting it all on those guys for the entirety of that year. That wasn’t even a great Carolina team they just rose to the occasion time and time again. 99% of the UNC fans I know all expected to lose that last game at Cameron.
I think the staff announced it so they could prep for life without coach K and prepare scheyer but they downside of that was how much pressure was put on some teenagers
How many of those 99% played in the game?! The consensus amongst the Players was they were going to return the favor in Durham. I won $2,000 off that game and another $25,000 from the lottery a couple of days later! The winning lottery numbers were UNC’s winning score!
The pressure didn't dismantle them in the Final Four... It def did in the last Cameron game... But the fact they made it to the final four under that type of pressure is one of the greatest achievements ever in sports IMO. No athletes have had that type of pressure on themselves.
Thats what made them a great team
UNC fan here not even going to rub it in for now but that Final Four game was incredible both teams made big buckets it honestly felt like the real National Title game even though it wasn't.

Lifelong Duke fan since 2001 from NYC. It was a dream for me to go to Cameron indoor stadium last year November to watch a basketball game for a coach K last year. Paolo looked like a men amongst boys in the game I went too they won by 30 against Lafayette (I believe). Glad he is living up to the hype in the NBA, Orlando magic definetly chose right with #1 pick 👏🏾

It’s no one on Duke’s fault, player or coaches. MAYBEEEE Mark Williams missing those free throws down the stretch you can point at, but the game changed significantly in the 2nd half where over a minute stretch Caleb Love hit two contested deep threes and Manek hit one of the craziest 3 pointers I’ve ever seen spinning on one foot while falling out of bounds. UNC was just a team of destiny, insane shots falling for them
UNC fan here, the championship loss stings but I really do not care. Beating Duke was the best thing possible. Only thing that would’ve made it better is beating them in the national championship

I've been seeing people debating these All-Time Duke lists that don't include Kyrie. And the reason, for me, you can't include Kyrie isn't because he was a One and Done but because it was clear he wasn't as committed. JJ talked about how Coach felt Paolo, Tatum and Zion were the best among those because they felt committed. I can totally see that and understand that. I understand you gotta do what's best for business but there's a reason why I put Kyrie in the same boat as someone like Jalen Johnson. In terms of the one and dones, I'd also put Jabari, Bagley, Carter and the big three of the 2015 team as being the best to do it for Duke.

As a Duke fan losing to UNC, I kinda do blame Banchero for that loss, his final touches in that game were horrible and I cannot say anything to a UNC fan anymore until Duke beats them in the tournament or wins more championships which is probably never.
