The Amazing World of Mycelium: Paul Stamets

  • In the first half of an extended talk at SAND 18, Paul Stamets, author, mycologist, medical researcher and entrepreneur, gives a self-styled "immersion lecture" about mushrooms and mycelium. He tells us that terrestrial organisms have evolved to be interconnected with the mycelial web of life, and that we are its descendants. He informs us that many primates consume mushrooms, and mentions Terence McKenna’s Stoned Ape Theory as a possible explanation for the neurogenesis that resulted in the striking expansion of hominid brain size in the last two million years.
In the second half of this presentation, Paul Stamets explores magic mushrooms.

I came on conclusion, before I found this video, that brain is a mushroom and mycelium is vegetative nerve system. Good to find same thinkers. Greetings.

@@samuel34676 Im guessing literally. Magic mushrooms are really special, it's almost like they are somehow connected to every living organism. Fungi made way for plants and trees, which allowed animals like us to evolve. They owe us nothing whilst we owe them everything.

Had a crazy experience on 7gs on new years eve. Felt like I became a vast mycelium network that is basically the only true consciousness on earth, that it came here from a different planet, and that it maintains the knowledge it gained from either past lives, or it is alive in different timelines or something and its able to talk to itself. I was shown the end of the universe, and I was shown multiple of my lifetimes. There was a bunch of stuff that didn't quite make sense, and i'm still processing what it all meant, but I think I'm gonna be one of the people that changes the world through mushrooms, cause I came out of the network or wherever I was with an overwhelming feeling of all the greatness that I am going to achieve in this life

I believe we are connected to the mycelium Network because we are mycelium and mushroom sophisticatedly crammed into one. Every hero dose I've done I hear the clicks and clacks of all, everything is connected. I even speculate that mycelium creeps and crawls through all worlds and that is our connection to them

Great job God bless you Paul. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and expertise. I know you've changed my life for the better and because of the information I have learned from you.... I have helped save save many people lives. One man that I helped, his doctor told him that he had one year left to live because he only had 21 percent of his lungs due to a buildup, I started him on high doses ofturkey tail 🦃🍄 mushrooms and 30 days later he had a lung test done again and the doctor called him in two weeks after and were astonished..... He now has 83 percent of his lungs back. There's so many others too. So we all owe u thanks. U have saved more lives then you will ever know. U r a true blessing. Now I heard there actually infusing mushrooms with computer mother boards. CRAZY!!!!! Right?❤😊 🙏🥰

*If* psilocybin was so important to human evolution, especially our brains, why hasn't it done the same to other animal species --especially the other 22 primates that Stamets said were heavy consumers of mushrooms?

    • @dtown5id

If psilocybin is a defensive chemical, maybe the majority of animals and insects are repelled by it. I believe what I heard from a researcher recently is that the bluing of psilocin is the defensive mechanism and it just happens to be psychedelic.

If the mycelium network pattern holds at the scale of the whole universe then wouldn’t dark matter be like the dirt/microbes that are outside of the single cell wall of the mycelium? Dark matter is the medium in which matter exists the same way dirt is the medium that mycelium uses? 🧐 hmm

You're absolutely correct in a sense. Space is not actually empty, it's filled with fluctuating energy fields that are constantly popping particles into and out of existancance right out of the quantum field that permeates our entire universe. We have great experiemental evidence of this as well. You can put two plates in the vaccum of space and when they get close enough together the pressure from the energy in the vaccum with actually exert a force on the plates and push them together. It's incredible, the universe is in essence, alive!
