    123 Kid was probably the only wrestler (at the time) who looked like he was attending high school during the day.

      That’s pretty cool. Here in Massachusetts they used to come to local malls fairly regularly around the Boston area. Always had long lines to wait in but Igot NWO Kevin Nash’s autograph and when Goldberg came omg the amount of people that showed up we must have waited in that line for hours to get an autograph and snap a picture on a throwaway camera

    Sean's matches have always been gold. If only the Light Heavyweight belt were around in the early 90's. Sean, Owen, and Hakushi would have owned the division. Imagine what that era could have looked like.

    Bret Hart vs 123 Kid is definitely an underrated match. I think the main reason Kid had a forgettable heel turn was because for years he was built as a plucky underdog, who would in most (but not all) cases appear to be in way over his head, but would do everything he could to overcome the odds. And because of this he just didn't come across as a believable heel at that time and the crybaby match certainly didn't help.

    • @christerry1611

      I remember thinking that heel turn was so dumb.

    • @adamalberts2
      @adamalberts2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The Dibiase faction angle sucked. A bunch of mid-card guys who were either already heels or turned into heels for the purposes of joining the group, it was really just the writers just being too lazy to come up with anything for those wrestlers.

      I remember watching that match live and being shocked when he won it, even though I was familiar with him from Global. I already liked him, so I marked out big time. That run would have worked a lot better if he had picked up more wins. Even if they were flukes, it would have made the gimmick more effective if his win loss record had improved after that win.

    • @popmonika
      @popmonika 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way a heel turn might have worked imo is if he changed his name and gimmick because he didn't like being called a kid.
      Actually what wcw did (repackaging as Syxx) was a stroke of genius and probably helped to extend his career.

      Im not sure but i wanna say it was both Scott Hall & Sean who wanted to do the whole scenario of him vs razor ramon. & then he beats him fast like that. 1,2,3 & from 123 kid being "born" it also made Razor Ramon a baby face at the same time after losing to him like 2 weeks later.

    I got really into wrestling around 1994-1995 when I was 6-7yrs old. Bret Hart was my favorite and obviously they were pushing him so not a surprise that any kid would love Bret. We all wished to be the kid in the front row who got his pink shades before the match. But he obviously put on a hell of a match night in and night out.
    “Who gave so and so (insert any superstar from the 90s) their best match?”

    Going to WCW was actually worked out amazing well for him. Especially when you consider it eventually to X-Pac. If the guy stayed sober and was less obnoxious, he probably could have been a much bigger star. I always found him interesting because he was clearly one of the better wrestlers of his time, but no promotion could figure out how to take him to the next level.

    One thing about Scott Hall when he was making a name for himself he didn't mind putting anyone over and was never pissy about the decision. Even in WCW when the nWo were basically always winning or matches always ended in about 6 seconds because everyone just interfered straight away his matches had him losing to a few random people. So I always look back on when he lost the match to the 1-2-3 Kid as him always wanting others to be as successful as him

    I remember the uproar when The Kid beat Razor Ramone. You NEVER saw a jobber beat a popular guy cleanly. You just never saw it. It was kind of ground breaking in a way. I might even go out on a limb and say that the first Kid wins against Razor might even be the first time ever that a jobber beat one of the popular guys cleanly, and almost definitely was the first time that said jobber actually gained some popularity. When I was watching WWE back then, I was a huge fan of Iron Mike Sharp. He was hilarious. I saw him wrestle at my local high school, and he was my favorite jobber. The man could do a comedy bit really well. I was really hoping after they gave The Kid a chance that they would do the same thing for Sharp. It never happened, sadly.
