    I did this with three of my grandkids! I told them we were making a memory. After they dyed their yarn we rolled the yarn into balls and each made whatever they wanted! They were so proud of their yarn creations!

    I tried this once but I did it completely wrong. So thank you for showing me the correct way. My main mistake was just leaving the skein in the bowl of water in the microwave. I didn't know to wrap it up in plastic instead. I also added way too much water to the dye. So thank you very much. :) I love all your videos and they are so incredibly helpful.

    Hi. Thanks for the tutorial. Was wondering if Kool Aid is what you use in your own dyeing process along with white vinegar, to permanently set your dyes in your hanks of wool?..do you also use any mild soap like Dawn soap or a mild shampoo to wash your skeins before letting them air dry?...so luv your kitchen and microwave. Sandy....

    Hi Chandi. I was wondering what kind of wool you used in this video. I tried Kool-Aid dying today and loved it. However, in the video, the grape flavored mix turn your yarn a grayish brown, but when I used the grape, mine to purple/ gray color. I used a corridale cross sheeps wool yarn.

    Hey hun,
    Does the kool aid dyeing wash off the yarn and how long does the kool aid colors last???? 😊

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you're worried about the dye bleeding, you can set it even more by giving it a bath in white vinegar and water. Here's more info about that process: www.darngoodyarn.com/blogs/darn-good-blog/why-dye-bleeds-what-to-do-about-it
      As to how long the color lasts... that's going to depend on a number of factors, such as how frequently it's washed, the type of detergent used, the colors, so unfortunately, I really can't say.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hayati Zahira Any type of brush. Foam brushes work best. The plastic wrap is used to keep the dye from splattering. If you can find another strategy to keep the dye from splattering, that would work.

      Because of the citric acid in the Kool-aid, the dye should be dyefast. However, I suggest giving your dyed yarn a good rinse in cool to lukewarm water until it runs clear just to make sure. Once it's dry, it's ready to use.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts

      +guiltyblade Wool is best because it is a protein fiber from animals. Alpaca and Silk will also work. Synthetic fibers, such as acrylic, do not work at all. Cellulose fibers, such as plants (think cotton or linen), will take the dye but it will be fainter and won't last.

      food coloring or cake dyes. You just need add a splash of white vinegar to your dyes.

      +Jennifer Matlock I would encourage a thoroughly covered workspace that you don't mind getting a little messy. We did this project with a group of preschool children a little while ago and that was an interesting experience. The kids absolutely loved it!

    • @kittybitty3099
      @kittybitty3099 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caroline Stewart it's a drink mix. You mix the flavored powder in the packet with sugar and water. The UK had Kool aid. It's been a very popular drink mix for decades upon decades and I know for a fact that the UK has kool aid available because I grew up around the UK and middle East!
