    I tend to try to control every aspect of the dying process, but this looked like so much fun!!!
    Halfway the video I was like: This will only make mud.
    But it didn't, at least way less than I thougt it would. I like bright colors and rainbows, but I also like nature tones, and these are a wonderfull mix of all that.
    So thank you for this video, I learned a lot, not necessarily about dye-ing, but more about letting go of the controlfreak inside me.

    Wow! They all turned out so amazing. Can't wait to see what you make with them all. The birds were fun little snippets of extra sound.

    Socks for the first one. A scarflette for the 2nd. Add minis to a blanket. And I’m surprised with the end results. Love them all.

    I feel like we could be good friends. I love you adventurous nature. I laughed every time you said” I have no self-control.” I would totally see myself do the same thing. They all came out so beautiful. I had fun watching this

    I’m really sorry, but there is alot of “what not to do” in this video. You need to loosen the skein ties before you start or you will get non dyed areas every time…like I said before, you need to use much more acid, which is why you are ending up with a whole lot of mud. Adding more and more colours over the top of mud is only going to make the mud a whole lot worse. Essence of Autumn has very good lessons in the basics of dyeing yarn that is helpful

    You needed more acid in your pot, that’s why the skeins weren’t taking up the colour very well

      Use wool or protein fibre, and you will always get a great result!

    I was in the kitchen cooking while I listened to you dying. I'm going to have to rewatch to see how you got those color way to fix the way you did. I thought the first one was going to be a muddy over mixed brown. Wow was I wrong! Those are beautiful. I'd make socks out of the first two, I'm not sure what I'd make out of the pink minis. The last set of minis is calling out to me to be color work in a big cozy fall sweater.

    Though I don't always agree with the initial color combinations in your dye pot, I do enjoy most of the end results.
    Keep on splashing the colors. The skeins will look beautiful in the fabrics you create.

      Tracy, I feel the same way lol! I just experiment, and sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't! This time, I think it worked!

    I experimented with dying cotton yarn and it was a dismal fail. I couldn't get it to take any color. I am Emma Christoff by the way! :) The birds were adorable, especially when you talked to one another!

      cotton requires different dye, or a different process. This dye works best on wool, or any protein fibre!

  • @noriskern7385

    Amazing how they turned out. Could you tell which ones are the acrylics? It would be very useful. Here in my country quality wool is insanely expensive.

    • @sleepydrJ
      @sleepydrJ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Acid dye doesn’t dye acrylic., it works on proteins (wool silk mohair) and nylon. Acrylic may get stained a bit but it’s not the same chemical reaction and could be expected to fade or simply rinse out.

    I am surprised by the results. I expected the colors to be different shades of mud. Interesting, but way too chaotic for my way of working.

    The blue one gives me Scottish vibes. I think the sparkle one would make a fabulous shawl. They would all look great in the Mystic Square top thats been popular recently.

    You don't specify to use dedicated equipment for acid dyes!?
    You didn't use any soap to properly wash out dye that didn't bind!?
    You didn't wear a mask or respirator when handling the carcinogenic powdered dyes!?
    Wow.

    • @sleepydrJ
      @sleepydrJ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not a carcinogen. It causes respiratory sensitivity over time- not a good thing, but not a carcinogen. (Agree that mask should be worn, and pans/tools should not be used for food afterward- due to heavy metals, but not strictly toxic)

    I dye yarn and I have conures.... I can't watch this.

  • @Pheebs77
    @Pheebs77 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Did you watch any videos before dyeing? If so you'd have learned way more techniques and avoided a lot of mistakes, plus learned more safety aspects. I'm a newbie dyer but watched this from between my fingers. I watched a ton of videos before I attempted my first dye. Please please wear gloves and a mask when handling dye powder and don't have your bird in the same room 😔😔

  • @nz-nz
    @nz-nz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’m disturbed about your birds.
    Sorry, but they should not be anywhere near fumes. (The steam from the dye bath does contain contaminants ESPECIALLY for a birds tiny lungs).
    I have birds and 😱 when I saw this!
    Non-stick cookware is also super toxic.
