You are just delightful, Dr. Lori! I am always so happy when you post. You're so funny. Thank you for helping us learn things about these old objects that are special in more than one way!
My father got a crystal (I think Baccarat) vase when he reached 20 years at a bank. My mother got an engraved crystal utensil holder when she retired from a food related business.
Dr. Lori, I just want to say how much I love both you and your video's. The amount of knowledge you have seems infinite. Thank you for teaching us the history of items and what to look for when we go "thrifting". ☺
Hi Donna, thanks for writing! Happy to hear you enjoy the videos. Please don't forget to share the videos/knowledge so others can learn too. Keep thrifting!! It's out there!
Dr Lori, I love your videos, especially the paintings, prints and lithograph IDs they are always so interesting. Would love to see more especially dating a painting by the back of the frame. I have a painting that seems to have what appears to be an auction number on the back, not sure if this means it has more value or not necessarily. Keep the videos coming!
You forgot photogravure!lol.Hi Dr.Lori.Very good to see you again.Still waiting for the tv show.Docs have adamantly stated chocolate is good for you doll.
Thank you so much for ypur videos. I have learned a lot from you. My sister is a barbarisn when it comes to antiques, she threw out a sterling silver frame once, but I cherish old metals wherever i find them.
Very interesting. Everyone always wants to melt the silver pieces down. That’s good to know that there is less value once melted down. I think that piece is gorgeous as is. Makes me cringe to see pieces like that destroyed. Thanks again Dr. Lori. 😊
Thanks again for the feedback. Everyone is ready to melt things down :( And, they want to do stupid tests like put acid on it or burn it to see if it's "real". They ruin the piece in the process and devalue it. No need to do these tests. Sorry, if I'm ranting :)
I occasionally like to rummage through the utensil bin at Goodwill for missed sterling pieces. Only ever found one piece, an antique butter knife in sterling. Really bad shape. Took it to a pawn shop and got 6 bucks for scrap on it. Guy told me "big deal." I was like "hey, I paid a dime for that!" I was pretty thrilled with my treasure find. And sorry Dr. Lori...No, I didn't negotiate the ten cents, but now I know : )
Elizabeth, don't worry. There are still bargains out there to find when shopping at these places. People are still bringing me finds at my events from these types of stores to value. I see stores mis-identify items and use the wrong resources to value them. Keep shopping :)
