For those using windows 10 and 11, on reaper. Go to options > preference > audio > device > audio system > choose WASAPI. Then make sure on input device choose your audio interface, then output device choose your pc speaker.
Thank me later, you're all welcome!

One more comment it dawned on me as I was closing in on he latency adjustment the perfect thing to use to be able to measure it was the metronome so I miked the speaker and recorded it and then did so on a second track. As it starts at the beginning each time it is a highly accurate marker for making adjustments.

Hey there, these tips are more for recording audio in REAPER. Here a few things to try for MIDI keyboard latency. While recording, disable plugins on your FX chain besides the virtual instrument that you are triggering. While recording, disable plugins on the master track or any folder tracks that your virtual instrument track is running through. Any plugins that are affecting your virtual instrument track that you are recording with might be introducing latency for your MIDI keyboard. Increase your block size/buffer rate/buffer size under Options>Preferences>Audio>Device. It can be hard to give advice on latency without being there with you, but I hope these tips might help.

My problem is that it's only the *metronome* that is off. I've used a ton of VSTs and drum loops that are perfectly on beat, and I tested it with the Click source in the "Insert" menu that's also lined up perfectly. The built-in metronome is consistently early, and I have no idea how to fix it.

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION
    Go to options-preferences-device
    Find where it says buffers
Drop the buffers number by 1 # at a time and test your voice
Then if that doesnt work increase the samples by 10
Play with that until you get it
Unfortunately that didnt work so I did the opposite
    I increased my buffer by 1 #
Then I dropped my samples by 10
I went to 5 and 480 for my buffer and samples.
Hope this helps because its spot on now✊🏼🐷

    • @TheHomeMusicMaker

Hey. You can try the following - 1. Check your audio interface and driver settings. Make sure the sample rate matches your project settings in Reaper. Mismatched sample rates can cause speed issues. To do this, go to Options > Preferences > Audio > Device. In the Device section, make sure the Sample Rate is the same as the Project Rate.
      2. Adjust the Input Manual Offset in the opposite direction. Instead of adding milliseconds to delay the input, subtract milliseconds to bring the timing back. Start with small increments like -5 or -10 ms. To do this, go to Options > Preferences > Audio > Recording. Enter the desired offset in milliseconds under Input Manual Offset in the Input section.
      3. Record with input monitoring off, then align the clip later. Sometimes, direct monitoring can cause speed issues. To do this, turn off the Input Monitoring button in the toolbar. After you record, you can use Reaper's alignment tools to snap the clip back into time.
      4. Quantize or manually align the clip after recording to snap it back into time. You can use Reaper's quantize functions or slice the clip and nudge parts back into place. To quantize the clip, go to Tools > Quantize. In the Quantize dialog, select the desired quantization settings and click Quantize. Use the Split and Nudge tools to slice the clip and nudge parts back into place.
      5. If takes are consistently too fast, it could be your performance rather than latency. Use a metronome, work on your timing, or have Reaper automatically adjust the timing of the recordings. Go to View > Transport and click the Metronome button to use a metronome. To work on your timing, practice playing along with a metronome or backing track. To have Reaper automatically adjust the timing of the recordings, go to Options > Preferences > Audio > Recording. In the Input section, enable the Auto-align recorded takes option.
      6. As a last resort, render out the faster clips to new files. Then import those rendered files back in, which should be at the correct speed. To render a clip, select the clip and go to File > Render. In the Render dialog, select the desired output settings and click Render.
      I hope this helps 👍

Can the input manual offset in reaper be used to counter plugin latency?

    • @TheHomeMusicMaker
      @TheHomeMusicMaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes, the Input Manual Offset in Reaper can be used to counter plugin latency. However, it is important to note that this is not always the best solution. In some cases, it may be better to adjust the plugin's settings or to use a different plugin with lower latency.
To use the Input Manual Offset to counter plugin latency, follow these steps:
Open the Preferences dialog (Options > Preferences).
Go to the Audio > Recording section.
Enter the desired offset in milliseconds under Input Manual Offset in the Input section.
Click OK to close the Preferences dialog.
The Input Manual Offset will delay the input signal by the specified amount of milliseconds. This will compensate for the latency introduced by the plugin so that the recorded audio will be in sync with the playback audio.
The amount of offset required will vary depending on the plugin and the settings that are used. Experimenting to find the best setting for your particular situation is important.
Here are some things to keep in mind when using the Input Manual Offset to counter plugin latency:
The Input Manual Offset will only affect the input signal. It will not affect the playback signal.
It can only compensate for latency that is introduced by plugins. It cannot compensate for other sources of latency, such as the audio interface or the computer's CPU.
It can introduce its own latency. This is because the audio signal has to be delayed by the specified amount of milliseconds before it can be recorded. I hope that helps. 👍

I installed ASIO and it did not fix the issue. I tried lots of other things before giving up. Once I gave up, I uninstalled ASIO. Now, my earbuds are not allowing me to hear audio from my laptop while streamlabs is open. I have been trying to fix this issue for the last three hours. I have hard reset my earbuds, uninstalled and reinstalled streamlabs, and reinstalled my laptop’s original audio drivers. Now I am trying to get support on the streamlabs discord. For anyone who reads the comments, yes, it is absolutely possible that installing ASIO will fuck up something on your computer.

    • @TheHomeMusicMaker
      @TheHomeMusicMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

I see. It sounds like you are experiencing input latency. This is the delay between when you play a note and when you hear it. There are a few things that can cause input latency, such as the audio interface, the computer's CPU, and the settings in Reaper.
Here are some things you can try to reduce input latency:
      1. Make sure that your audio interface is properly configured. Check the driver settings to make sure that the sample rate and buffer size are set to the lowest possible values that do not cause audio dropouts.
      2. Close any unnecessary programs that are running in the background. These programs can use up CPU resources and increase latency.
      3. Reduce the buffer size in Reaper. The buffer size is the amount of audio data that is buffered before it is played back. A lower buffer size will reduce latency, but it may also cause audio dropouts.
      4. Use a different audio interface. Some audio interfaces have lower latency than others.
If you have tried all of these things and you are still experiencing input latency, you may need to upgrade your computer or audio interface.
Here are some additional things you can try:
Make sure that your Focusrite is properly connected to your computer.
Check the drivers for your Focusrite to make sure that they are up to date.
Try using a different USB port on your computer.
Try restarting your computer and your Focusrite.
      I hope this helps. 👍

Not sure if I have the same problem but maybe you can help. I recently switched from Windows to MacBook Pro. With headphones plugged into the audio interface and a track armed to record, it sounds like two voices when speaking in the mic. This doesn't happen when the track is not armed for recording. Also noticed by adjusting the Mix knob on the AI (back and forth) it's not as noticable at certain settings. I tried adjusting the Input Manual Offset to both extremes; -200 and +200ms but couldn't hear any difference. However it is noticable on the waveform when actually recording. Positive numbers show up earlier but negative numbers don't delay like I would expect.
It appears to me tpath taken is the audio signal at the AI input, through the USB, then being processed by Reaper and sent back to the AI output (headphones). As a result you hear yourself speaking and what was processed by Reaper being sent back. Is there a way to disable the audio signal being reprocessed and sent back during an armed or actual recording session? I think this is what I need to do.

Hey, Jason. One electronic drummer to another, I have a Focusrite 2i4 audio interface that I use for my electronic kit, guitars, vocals, etc, and it works like a charm, zero latency issues. For example, I just got an M-Audio Keystation 61 MK3 midi controller and it came without a power supply. So, I hooked it up directly to my computer with the usb cable it came with to see how it would go and ran into all kinds of latency, which brought me here. However, I found a power supply and connected the keyboard to my Focusrite instead and it works perfectly. The Focusrite has an ASIO driver for download that has worked great for me. Another somewhat small investment into an audio interface might be a good choice for your new kit. Hope you get it worked out, man.

Hey there mate! It's always hard to troubleshoot latency without the problem being right in front of me, but here are a few ideas. See if there is an audio driver that you need to download for your electronic drum kit on the manufacturer's website. Increase your block size/buffer rate/buffer size under Options>Preferences>Audio>Device in REAPER. For recording, disable any plugins that are in your FX chain other than the Steven Slate drums plug-in. Disable any plugins on your Master Track or any folder tracks that your drum track belongs to for recording. Looks like you found a workaround, but I hope this helps too.

@@steverian6377So...... Exactly what cables are you using through your scarlet? My edrums have 2 main outs. I would PREFER to use my scarlet 2i2 4th gen for driver purposes, but I just have the 2 main outs to run to the scarlett and I don't think you can "trigger" the ssd /superior drummer/ addictive Drums vst with the two main outs because they're stereo. Right? The only option I have is to run a USB straight from my drum module to my computer and use the drum VSTs that way (midi).... I would LOVE to find a way to get these VSTs to trigger through the audio interface though. It would be so much easier for everything I'm trying to do.

where do you adjust the latency if you're triggering softsynths in Reaper? When I play my controller, there is a delay/latency between the time I play the keyboard controller to the time I hear the attack of the sound in the softsynth. I'm using a Windows PC with the latest ASIO driver.
When I'm in Protools, I can quickly and easily fix this issue by simply lowering the Buffer size from say 512 to 64 or 32. But, within Reaper, there seems to be so many different options to fix different types of latency issues, it's difficult and frustrating to manage.

Best way is to put 32 or 64 in the 'request block size' field. It is the same as buffer size in PT :)

doesnt work. installed audio4all drivers, changed manual offset....made no difference at all :(

same here. When using ASIO sound system its still delayed and with a ton of cracking/popping. If I use WASAPI the sound is clear but still delayed. Doesn't matter if I use 200+ ms in either direction for input or output. No idea.

So Waveout works fine, but has latency. Same with ASIO. Dowloaded ASIO4all v2 and now all I get is constant click tones in my headphones and no instrument playback audio. ASIO4ALL error messages. ASIO crashing reaper. ASIO has been my single biggest hurdle to recording music in EVERY daw I tried. Why is this such trash. I've all but given up on music. Come back for another go years later and it's the same effing hang up.
If anyone can help me with this you are a god.

How I fixed my latency, is to remember I am running all my audio through Voicemeteer, and that adds a buttload of latency.
    Lol. Lmao, even.
