  • Your liquid-cooled motorcycle relies on its cooling system every time you ride. SUBSCRIBE NOW: / thescooterbud
Changing your coolant is as easy as an oil change, and it’s critical to keeping your cooling system in tip-top shape.
As a general rule of thumb, your liquid-cooled motorcycle’s coolant should be changed every two years or 24,000 miles, even if it looks good. Murky or brownish coolant should always be drained and replaced. Check your owner’s manual for your motorcycle’s specific coolant replacement interval.
Changing your coolant is an inexpensive and valuable maintenance job, and your cooling system will thank you in the long run. Keep up with those coolant changes, and remember: A motorcycle can only run as well as it’s been maintained.

I have commented to you before. Above... I renewed the antifreeze 1 year ago. I make additions from time to time. When I just checked, it's at max level. I don't use Vespa right now. The weather here is snowy and rainy. I will only provide electricity in December, January, February and March. Do I still need to check antifreeze? Or what should I do? Thanks

Hello! Thanks for your comment and your support!!
Well, is recommended to replace and execute and coolant flush every two years regardless of the usage or milage, so corrosion doesn't build up inside the engine and the system.
      Peace✌️

Coolant antifreeze advice for Vespa gts please? Which brand should it be? I do not use vespa in winter months, namely November, December, January, February. Spring and summer only. I've done 30,000 km. Unfortunately, my masters did not completely clean the water. I'm going to drain the water and put it all over again. After draining the water in it, is it necessary to wash it with clean normal water? I guess I need to start the engine. That's what you did. So what is the purpose of this? How many times do I have to do this? Which brand should I use? Vespa gts 250, 2013 years, 30,000 km. Thanks

Hey! Thanks for the comment! Good question!
As I mentioned in the video, on minute 0:57 you can use the one recommended by the manufacturer which is the SPECIAL AGIP PERMANENT that has the following specification (Monoethylene glycol-based anti-freeze fluid, CUNA NC 956-16) any other brand that meets the specifications would work, in short words any 50/50 that are Monoethylene glycol-based, I have been using the one I show on the video since then and I haven’t had any issues so far, this summer is been hot and I haven’t experienced any overheating, even tho I already have here with me, new water pump, houses, cover, bleeding screw and metal cover, so I’ll be replacing the whole system soon and I’ll be trying out the “Engine Ice” coolant! Would see how it goes! Stay tuned for that video!!
I did a deep cleaning mainly because my bike is from 2008 and it was never serviced, so it was petty dirty inside, so I went over 3 times, I first flushed the old coolant, then I added distilled water and run the bike for about 10 minutes until there was no bubble coming out of the bleeding screw, then flushed the distilled water, (be careful it might get really hot), and then I did the same thing two more times until I saw the water was coming out clean when flushing it… then added the new coolant, bleed the system, and done!
Make sure you use distilled water, do it as many time as you think is necessary, you shouldn’t have to do it that much since it a newer bike, but until water comes out clear, is good, and make sure to bleed the system correctly!
      Good luck! Peace✌️

      I understand this.
      1. First open the system to drain the old dirty Coolant.
      2. When all the old water has drained, close the lid and attach the hose to the part under the seat.
      3.Then wash with distilled water.
      4. open the bottom again and flow.
      5. Recap and add distilled water.
      6. After cleaning, screw the bottom cap back on to add Coolant.
      7.Add Coolant.
      Take 8 bubbles.
So if bubbles appear after pouring Coolant, do I need to pour distilled water or Coolant again?
      Google translate sorry 🙏
      Edit;
13:30 Why did you put that hose on again while pouring Coolant? How are you going to see bubbles with that hose? I understood everything. I just don't understand here?

      @@Murat1982turkey Hello!
It’s very simple, first remove the water pump cover (no need to remove the hose and clamps) just unscrew the 3 screws that hold the cover. 02:19
Then, after draining the old coolant, (make sure to remove the cap on the reservoir to release the pressure and allow it to drain the whole system. 03:04
After draining the system entirely, you can proceed and screw the water pump cover back again, and then open up the helmet compartment to get access to the bleeding screw, (is recommended to use a clear hose so you can see the bubbles, but you can also do it with a dark one as I did and keep an eye at the end of the house so when you see the coolant coming fluid and not interrupted by air is when you have bled all the air from the system. 03:20 - 05:30
Then, pour the distilled water until you fill up the whole thing, make sure the bleeding screw, the water pump cover, and the reservoir cap are closed before running the bike. 05:35
Start the bike and let it warm up, in the mid-time, proceed and unscrew two turn the bleeding screw and start draining the air, (keep an eye on the reservoir and top off as you se water go down) once you don’t see any more bubbles and the fan goes on by the thermostat, shut down the bike and then reap the same process of draining the old coolant, be extremely careful because water might get hot, wear the necessary glove and eye protection! 06:13
Repeat the same process as many times as you think is necessary to clean the system inside, best sign is when water comes out completely clean and transparent. 07:45
Most importantly, when adding the new coolant, make sure you have replaced the O-ring on the water pump cover with a new one, (10:36) top off the reservoir with the new coolant, (12:50) and start the bike, same as you did with the water, unscrew the bleeding screw couple turn and let the air drain out while the bike is running, (13:16) this is a very important step! After that check the level and top off if necessary, finally, just go for a short ride and then come back to check the level again and top off is needed.
And you should be good to go!
⚠Warning: After flushing the coolant system on my Vespa GTV, I unfortunately had a very slow leak coming out of the bleeding screw hole… As you already know my bad habit… I went ahead and overnight it another 1/4 turn… boom! Destroyed the thermostat housing…
That brass bleeding screw seats on a plastic piece inside the thermostat housing. If you over tighten it just a tiny bit like I did, and you will destroy the housing allowing coolant to leak through the bleeding screw hole. It looks like a very slow leak but that could easily empty the whole tank in matters of hours.
The service and user manual says to tight it to 3nm. this is like finger tight!
if that happens to you, here a video to fix that mistake: th-cam.com/video/rwLaIY7D0jc/w-d-xo.html

Would it be bad to suck it out with a straw pump?

    • @TheScooterBud
      @TheScooterBud  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for the comment.
Mmm not sure what exactly your thinking, but if you refer from the bleeding screw, that’s not going to work, the best way to drain the system is removing the houses from the water pump and flushing it a couple times with destile water, the bleeding screw on the top it’s only to remove the air bubble left in the system after adding new coolant, it’s not intended as a draining method.
      Peace✌️
