Really not sure why your concrete.mixer wasn't inside the form for ar least half of the pour. The wire could have still been pulled up. It would have saved a lot of time and carrying.
Y'all did an amazing job! That's pretty cool. I'm going to do My parents walkway. Maybe I'll videotape that and see how it turns out. Do your method. It's going to be like 20 ft long by probably 36 in wide. Don't know how many bags I need but I guess I'll figure it out
We get our bags from a building supply company but if you go on Lowe’s website I believe they have a bag calculator you can you. And you should film it , always cool to see the work in progress
The biggest reason we didn’t get a truck was site conditions. We are in winter and the mud is very bad. They also have a minimum yardage and we didn’t meet that. We also don’t have a mix on site small batch truck willing to go to that area.
Constantly stomping the wire down? Doesn't look like it is actually going to actually reinforce the concrete. Road work rebar/wire is suspended off the roadbed and not left down in the dirt.
Normally we use stands for the wire and rebar. Unfortunately not a thick slab but as we go along he is constantly pulling up the mesh into the concrete and as he does that the aggregate in the concrete holds it off the dirt.

I use wheelbarrows but I like using buckets better. Little more handling but I can put it right where I want it and don’t have to make ramps over forms. But yes they do save your back some .
Not to be cheap but you could have used a lot less bags of concrete mix you are supposed to use gravel for drainage and for slab movement that slab is going to move and lead to cracks what was you thinking ? Always use atleast 2 to 3 inches of gravel do it once so it right
You should have pulled up on that steel as you were spreading the mud. All your steel is laying on the ground. You wasted time and money doing that. That being said all concrete cracks. Depending on the weight you put on the slab it really shouldn't matter

The wire in the slab is wire mesh , it is used to help keep the concrete from braking apart over time

Nice job! How long did this take and did you use something to keep the cement from dying out fast?
It took just under 2 hours and it was cool out so once it set up some it got covered with concrete blankets to keep the heat in.
What type of bags did you wind up using.
80 pound quikrete

Question: Why not use a wire frame in the pour just for added strength?
We have wire in the slab. If you watch he is constantly pulling it up into the concrete as we move along

Yes it is. It’s a few years old now and I use it a lot for small jobs.

We do not bring them back. They are paper so we recycle them

It took an hour and a half to mix about 2 hours total after cleaning everything up

Less concrete would mean a 2" slab. That's too thin too
Won't last long u gotta put wire in all concrete will crack after time .. 100% will crack what a wast of time and money..
