    My mother made this every Christmas, now that she's gone we wanted to make it to keep the tradition going. This will be very welcome and delightful next year, thank you for your videos.

    My family is really going to enjoy this lovely bread. I think I will add glazed cherries in place of some of the peel and sultanas. I love the addition of the pearl sugar at the end! I've not seen that type of sugar before.

    Look very 😋 if I want to use the instant yeast what is the racio

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nita Kishnani, the same amount(10g/3 tsp) of instant yeast instead of active dried yeast will work.

  • @nitakishnani4963
    @nitakishnani4963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I use instant yeast I can just mixed with milk and I don’t need water to activate so u still have to add water or no

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nita, if you use instant yeast it can be added into the dry ingredients. But you still need the same amount of liquid in the recipe. So you need the water and the milk, or you can increase the amount of milk and leave out the water.

    Geoff Your video is the most detailed video I have seen for this Christmas bread. I know in your video you detail the quantities of the ingredients used and touch base the mixed and rise times and temperatures. Would you be kind enough to post your reciepe in the quantities of ingredients used and detail the the instuctions on how you made the bread so I do notleave out any important points?

    Geoff in your recipe soft white rolls what is unbleached strong white flour?

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Dana. That is bread flour, or strong white flour in the UK. . In the UK flour is unbleached, however in the USA there is both bleached and unbleached flour.

    Nowadays, a lot of people skip the citrus rind as well as the pearl sugar and frosting, and add both dark and light raisens instead‼️ It’s a bit healthier (using less sugar) and both easier and cheaper, too‼️. Most Norwegians put brown (goats) cheese on their julekake, though I just put butter on it, and it is eaten at any time during the day, I.e., not just for breakfast‼️ ❤️

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Elaine. Thanks for all the information. I liked mine just as they were and with butter. I don't like goats cheese so I would never try that.

    • @mutternav4
      @mutternav4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just came back from spending 6-weeks with my kids over in Norway, and ate julekake just about every single day while there‼️. I don’t like goats cheese either, but I was the only one that didn’t put it on my julekake‼️. We actually talked about not having citrus rind in the julekake anymore, and we all agreed that we prefer it without + getting it from several different sources while I was there, none of it had citrus rind, or pearl sugar, or frosting on top‼️. Just fyi‼️. ❤️

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mutternav4 I enjoy the citrus in it, since I aways associate that with Christmas. In the UK we use chopped mixed peel in so many things around Christmas time especially.
