Just finished baking this as a gift for my wifes' hairdresser, I'm sure she'll like it as it looks magnificent, I think I'm going to be busy for the next couple of weeks as I intend making quite a few more for family and friends. Albert
Hi Geoff, That bread is just beautiful! It looks like a crown 👑. I’ve made a Greek bread with fruit in it. Used anise seed. Can’t remember the name of it but it was very good toasted and slathered with butter! Your bread would make a lovely gift! Well done! 😋😊
Wow Geoff, you truly outdo yourself with every bake! You shld've been on The Great British Bake Off. You wld've won every single competition hands down! The bread looks amazing!
Your Christopsomo looks amazing! Far better than my attempt last year. I think I rushed the proving. I haven’t quite mastered bread. I’m of Greek heritage and mum said in her home in Greece, my Grandmother served it at Christmas lunch. It was in place of their ‘usual’ bread. Each region has different plaits and decorations. For the anise my mum uses a seed anise, it’s not as aromatic as star anise, and used whole. I’m from Australia but I imagine in England, you would have Greek delicatessen’s or Cyprian, where you can get it. But I wouldn’t think it would make a big difference. I discovered your channel recently, it’s a real gem! Have a Happy Festive season! 🎄
HI Anastasia. Thanks very much. I did enjoy the bread, and making it. I also have aniseed seeds, but since I had ground star anise for something else I used that. I hope you have a great Christmas.
Good Morning Mary. thanks very much. I mention in the video and in the written recipe that you can swap out the spices for your own preference to still make a very bice bread.
Hi Jean. Happy New Year to you too. It is 1.48 am. here. I am up for the second time this year, already. The wind is blowing a gale making it difficult to sleep.
HI Julia. No Mahlepi is made from cherry stones. It is also known as Mahleb or Mahlab. It is also stocked in many Asian/Turkish stores if you have one close by.

HI Judith. Thanks very much. The Greeks have several different breads, for different events/celebrations throughout the year, I think.

Hi Wendy. Thanks very much. I would never do well on GBBO since I couldn't cope with the showstopper challenges at all. LOL.
@geoffsbakingblog You might surprise yourself!
This bread looks wonderful and possibly more appreciated than the Elgin Marbles😂

Good morning Geoff. It's beautiful. I would have to leave out the annis because I don't like licorice. But it is a beautiful dough.

Hi Jean. What a lovely surprise. Thank you so much. I certainly wasn't expecting it, but appreciate it very much.
Happy New Year Geoff!🎆its still only 4:41pm on New Year’s Eve here. You’re probably already retired for the night.

Geoff just on Amazon sourcing spices.....is Mahlepi actually nutmeg powder? It seems a bit difficult to find

Compliqué pour nous de suivre la recette en totalité
