    2:08 Is that a solar flare (reddish emission above the bright light)on the right hand side of the suns disk? Or is it something sensor related?

    • @AdventureArchives
      @AdventureArchives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is indeed a solar flare. Pretty cool that we were actually able to see it. No space station though haha

    • @56932982
      @56932982 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is a solar prominence: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_prominence
      A flare is something different: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_flare
      The dark spots at 0:27 are sunspots: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunspot
      I am an amateur astronomer. I have a special H-alpha telescope that makes prominences visible without an eclipse. Actually I was able to observe this prominence today.

      Ah, thanks Jochen! Was wondering about the sunspots as well. Glad we cleaned the sensor beforehand because it could have just been dust on the sensor haha

    I'm still struggling to find words to describe how amazing it was to see. We had one of our best adventures yet camping out in Cherokee NF. I'm glad you got to enjoy it and you guys captured it beautifully.

    You guys were correct when you suggested that this may be something of the best footage of the eclipse that's available online. It was also good to see Thomas back with the gang on the Eastern half of the country. Cheers!

    Awesome video. Every night I watch the moon move east to west for years. No one has even questioned why the moon was going west to east during this amazing event. I work with a bunch of engineers and their only reply after the blank stare was. Some scientist somewhere can probably explain it.

    • @adelefarough5123
      @adelefarough5123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The moon actually *does* orbit the earth from west to east. At night, it appears to rise in the east and move westward because of the earth's rotation on its axis.

      Lol, we were IN the woods and had to retreat because of ticks. The initial plan was to film from the woods. Probably good we did though because it apparently ended up being cloudy there.

      AdventureArchives my family was considering driving up to St. Joseph from Kansas City to watch it since it was closer to the middle of totality than KC was, but we decided to stay. Glad we did, because St. Joseph was covered with clouds the entire eclipse.

    at 2:06, are those solar flares?

    • @enriquegalindo3915
      @enriquegalindo3915 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      tueuz yea but people like to call it the corona

    • @ASPVids
      @ASPVids 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enrique Galindo the corona isn’t the same as a solar flare. The corona is essentially an aura of plasma that surrounds the sun, while a solar flare is a gigantic release of energy from the suns surface.

    i've noticed how a lot of the videos of the 17 eclipse...puts the eclipse in the bottom right of the shot. Curious.

    • @AdventureArchives
      @AdventureArchives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Michael, It's because as the sun moves across the sky, it will move from the bottom right to the top left of the camera screen. Therefore, when setting up extended shots, its best to put the sun at the bottom right, so that it will move across the screen, without having to constantly reposition the camera.

    Beautiful footage guys I just love it,I keep coming across one video after another this one's back in 2017 it's still great, Talk about a little trivia in the old days Most likely people were afraid that It was some kinda omen or something,Thank goodness that is untrue today! A little more education a little more knowledge and there shouldn't be any fears of This ,The naturalness of the moon going around the earth. Boo,lol , Again thanks for the great videos and posting them!

    It should be TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to NOT see the moon before and after the eclipse! I waited hours later and even though I have no problem seeing the moon in the day on other days the moon was NOWHERE to be found. It should of created a spectacular waxing and waning moon before and after the event!!!!

    • @bmore1015
      @bmore1015 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      why cant you see the moon before
      and after

    • @jbhunter15
      @jbhunter15 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      dissimulo you can't see the moon other then when it is covering the sun because it is a new moon, so there is no sunlight on the face that is facing the earth.
