    LOL at the end watching your daughter play with them. I am looking for something fast and efficient for my 11 month grandson here in Auburn NH. I think I found it and I learned some cool ideas. I especially like the template/blue tape idea. Great presentation. Very clear and sequential set up and I also like your background comments as you demonstrate. Thank you. I am Larry in NH.

    Wooden toys won’t break in half at the first sign of enthusiastic play. They can last years and years with just a little care to keep them clean. In fact, the Unbox Montessori toys like wooden toy car stay stuck to each other so there are even lesser chances of them getting damaged. No wheels rolling off the car! What better way to avoid tears while playing than a toy that always remains whole?

  • @GrahamOrm
    @GrahamOrm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Another thought. When fitting the second wheel onto the axle, a U shaped shim between the wheel and the body of the car, that can be pulled out after tapping the wheel on will avoid the wheel going on too far and making the axle tight. If this happened it would be a difficult thing to recover from without doing damage. The shim could be made from an old plastic drinks bottle.

    p.s. Try sanding sponges - not cheap but they do a nice job on nooks and crannies

      fgriffintx Smith sandpaper around a dowel or pencil is good too

  • @GrahamOrm
    @GrahamOrm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing. Tip for using the bandsaw, all cuts should be outside the line, then sanded back to the line. A bobbin sanding attachment on your drill-press will help you........I'm further into the video now.....you already know this lol. Great job. ;-)

    Nice video! Also good to see someone make mistakes like I do (i.e. break off parts and reglue!). Your use of "ghetto" router table looked scary to me; for only about $150 you can get a Bosch table top router table that is fairly servicable. Seeing as you have a nice workbench it might be affordable for you.
    Great suggestion about blue tape!! And thanks for no annoying background music and no tedious video of you slogging slowly through each construction step.

    wouldn't it be better to use 4x4 or 6x6 wood to make it easier to cut and save time with gluing the main part of building the car?

    • @zeroexperiencerequired91
      @zeroexperiencerequired91  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You totally could. There are some issues with wood warping with larger pieces as well as having hidden defects and getting quality wood of those dimensions is usually more expensive then gluing multiple pieces to make one of that size.

  • @StephenRBlack
    @StephenRBlack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    DIY... all you need is a bandsaw, scroll saw, drill press, orbital sander, hand planer, vise, a variety of clamps, variety of drill/hole bits, digital caliper, and a workshop helps too. Did I miss anything?

    • @greyspot00
      @greyspot00 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're expecting to do woodworking without woodworking tools, I have bad news for you. On the other hand, all you really need is wood, a way to cut the wood. Everything else is optional and only makes it easier and better quality. Seriously, even sandpaper and glue are optional if you don't mind it being rough.
      You can cut out the shape with a cheap jigsaw, or even a handheld saw with a small blade like a scroll saw.
      So yes, DIY, not "bang your bare hands against a piece of wood and get a toy car, no tools required." It's not bought from a store, you Do It Yourself.

      That is definitely doable.What kind of details are you looking for? I've added it to the list of videos to make. But I don't believe It will happen before your school project is due.

    Enjoyed your video. Check out Steve Good's suggestion for an alternative to blue tape -- just as good and also much cheaper!

    • @dougied3449
      @dougied3449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use regular white packing tape from dg, it’s paper so you can write on it and the glue barely holds cuz it’s cheap but great for projects!

  • @mrexiges1

    nice video. I learned a lot.
    One suggestion ...when drilling the axle holes drill a pilot hole first as this should reduce the stress when drilling full size....even better . Work up to full size with multi drills.
    Well done .

      This is good advice. I didn't do this because I was not 100 sure where I was going to drill but it would be wise to spend some extra time to make the templates have the drill locations.

    Mate start with thicker wood saves on glue ups. Don't ever put your hand in front of a chisel. On the good side you don't try to make it look hard to make like most guys.

  • @felvo1
    @felvo1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I got a bit worried watching you use the chisel to remove glue with your wrist in
    front of the blade

    • @daveconneronline
      @daveconneronline 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah me too. Glad to see you realized what you were doing before it was too late. Chisel cuts (even sharp ones) hurt bad. :(

  • @Irvindzimlaz
    @Irvindzimlaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, would it be possible to send you some dimensions for a wooden toy and you cut for me and charge for your labor and materials?

  • @GrahamOrm
    @GrahamOrm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wow! Can't see you lasting a day on site using a chisel like that dude! NEVER put your hand in front of the blade, especially after you've told people how it's wrong lol. The gaps on gluing up could have been avoided with screwed clamps. The pump type that you used don't get anywhere near the pressure.

    If your chanal is called zero experience required if some one had zero experience I don't think they would have all those expensive tools

    • @zeroexperiencerequired91
      @zeroexperiencerequired91  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your input! Wood working is a new hobby to me. I purchased all these tools with no or little experience intending to learn how to use them. Many of these projects I literally start with zero experience on how to do it, but do a lot of research before I start, to try and avoid mistakes. Mistakes with power tools can be very costly. Like the wood NES video That was the first time I used a HVLP gun, first time touching a raspberry pi, first time using a proper router table, first time using a silhouette and first time applying vinyl.

    Was going to give this video a thumbs down for its very amateurishness. But when I saw your face at 8.13, you looked like a person who had tried honestly, to make a good video. So no thumbs down. But, a suggestion: Your audio levels from scene were jumping up and down, making it jarring and distracting. You have to improve on this. Other woodworkers like Steve Ramsey have videos showing how they make their videos, which are excellent. You could view these and learn. The final toys looked good, and your li'l daughter is very cute.
