I don't care what anyone says. If it wasn't for EITHER Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels, you wouldn't get that same legacy that they left in the New Generation era. Love it or hate it, their rivalry was EVERYTHING. When most people think of Shawn's greatest rival, they think of Bret, and vice versa. It's Batman vs Joker.
Triple H would probably agree too. He was basically Shawn's babysitter. He was the one who would stay up in Shawn's hotel room all night making sure he doesn't choke on his own vomit in his sleep. He was the only sober member of the Kliq.
@@kenterminateddq5311 When Shawn hit rock bottom, he went off on Hunter on his way out before going into full retirement due to his injury. (Hunter, like everyone else, was done with Shawn's shit and wanted him to clean up his act) After he cleaned up, I believe it was Shawn's wife who urged him to patch things up with Hunter. She either recognized how good of a friend Hunter was to effectively keep her husband alive during those years, or that losing his best friend was hurting Shawn.
As many commentators who were there during that time period, especially Cornette(like him or hate him), Triple H was the only voice of reason in the KLIQ.
Shawn will be okay without you defending his honor. He's an amazing wrestler but pretty much every source back then says he wasn't a very good person. That's not assassinating his character. That's his personal experiences, and there's no qouta on how much he is allowed to talk about it.
Shawn is a once in a few centuries performer. That being said the boy toy really threw his clout around but I suppose in a cutthroat business that is the name of the game.
Being an all time great requires a huge ego to where it even reaches believing in the delusion. Look at anyone on top and they have or have had a phase where they were horrible. This is because we are not supposed to let our egos take over, but in order to be a star or be great you have to. Look at Ali, who was awful to Frazier while also being a great dude most of the time, Michael Jordan, its the ego. Being a young man too full of testosterone and with all the pressure of course the ego takes over. We would never live this way naturally and when put in these unique scenarios that humans create our natural minds take over and this is the result, none of us are special and would all succumb just the same. That's why its important to realize this and follow God.
Growing up in Canada, I was a Hart kid through and through. I appreciated that Shawn Michaels was an athletically gifted performer, but if I was going to watch that style of wrestling, I was going to watch Dynamite Kid or Owen or some of the Luchas. The fact that he came across like an entitled jerk, even on screen, and you could tell by 1995 that it wasn't entirely an act, didn't help. When he was a babyface, I remember hearing his entrance music in my very early teens and rolling my eyes. My father was a big Stampede, AWA and NWA fan and had told me that wrestling was a work (not "fake" - I always knew the bumps were protected as much as possible but real), and I appreciated guys, even heels, who maintained that and told stories in the ring. I remember seeing him kick Vader, who I liked, in the head and I wasn't impressed. The only version of Shawn Michaels that I bought was the early DX guy who feuded with Bret Hart. The Screwjob wasn't as big a deal to me because I knew Bret was on the way out and while Vince DID screw Bret, I understood why and it worked for storytelling in making McMahon a heel. I guess I was so confident as a Canadian that some American clown coming to my country and acting like a goof wasn't enough to get me upset. It's like being called uncool by a toddler when you're in your 20s. Whenever Shawn cut one of his promos in 1997I laughed. They were good promos, don't get me wrong, but there isn't anything an American can say to a Canadian about the Canadian way of life that is both true and insulting. Bret's "heel" promos about the US, though, were awesome. I loved those. Sure, being borderline homophobic was a bit uncanadian of Bret, but Shawn leaned into the silliness.
Hickennottom was an overated, non-drawing, overselling gymnist, nothing more. That why the Buckaroo's are like that, inspired by their hero Hickenbottom.
I quit watching WF around Shawn Michaels push. Definitely quit WWF entirely when him and diesel were on top. Quit wrestling for a few years when hogan went to wcw.
It was just a way to stick it to Bret and his “clique” so to speak…thing is, I didn’t necessarily have a problem with Shawn winning but it made absolutely no sense for DX to beat up Bulldog the whole match and then the hart foundation doesn’t come to his aid until the match was already over.
NO, Shawn Michaels did the RIGHT THING by winning the TITLE at "ONE night only" ... and NOT LETTING BULLDOG become the "hero" of his country !!! I think Shawn knew that Bulldog was allegedly cheating on his wife Diana Hart, with SUNNY...and instead of letting him win and become the "hero" of his COUNTRY ...Shawn teached him a Lesson !! When you watch the full match in the End SHAWN tells DIANA HART " I did this especially for you BABY " by saying this to DIANA HART I think SHAWN knew about BULLDOG and Sunnys alleged affair !!! Maybe he didn't know .. I'm just speculating here ... but I think SHAWN DID THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT THING by WINNING THE MATCH !!! This is my opinion !!!!!
At least Shawn never injected steroids into disabled children. It's funny how people try to make Shawn wrestling's biggest villain while ignoring shit like this.
I disagree. I think if Shawn really was the same guy, people who had issues with him like Bret and Undertaker, would not have given him the time of day, and the NXT roster wouldn’t be saying such great things about him. Even people that aren’t employed by WWE anymore had great things to say (Swerve Strickland for example) I think while he was more tame in the 2000’s, he was still competitive and had some of his flaws. But retired-NXT Booker Shawn seems to be a completely different guy. He doesn’t need the job he has now, but he wants to help the younger talent.
Selective forgiveness, selective redemption. But seriously, Shawn Michaels will never be on the same level as someone like Steve Blackman, Ken Shamrock, or Dan Severn
So you're trying to say that Shawn wasn't a good wrestler 😂 That would mean the whole business doesn't know it's own profession. This comment section is ridiculous.
@desisdosis473 I think it depends on how you define "good wrestler". Did he entertain? Of course. Did he make his matches look real (create the illusion he is really in a fight)? Absolutely not. His goofy selling and lack of defense killed that illusion. He made it look like a dance.

Ya unfortunately that flipped around 2002/2003ish and now martys been a huge embarrasment to himself and his legacy one of the biggest cases of what couldve been for his career if he didnt squander his talent.
At this point, you can't simply write those off as "demons" anymore.
@@matthewfrieswick2865 Marty's Social media posts are a strange mix of sad, hilarious and a little scary.
Like when he just straight up confessed to murder? Like he was probably full of shit (he usually is, he likes to post photos clearly from the 90's and pretend they are recent.) and trying to sound like a badass, but wtf?
how is it possible that his eyes keep getting closer together
Most wrestlers are gatekeeping assholes.
Vince slobbering over HBK during SS96 as they buried Vader was off-putting and if HBK and Vince were doing the 2backed monster no one would be surprised.
I love how people are treated as different because they say they are born again Christians
I've been a born again Christian was still the same a**hole
💔 🐐
Watch out: Bitter Bret Hart fans with a personal vendetta in the comments.
that would be me. hbk suckd
Not bitter just stating facts... Bret just keeps it 100.
You want to see bitter? Watch the Shawn Michaels/Hulk Hogan match at SummerSlam 2005.
@@roccojamison89gooker51 ehehehe
The way you discuss HBK passionately over and over makes it seem that there's some type of Brokeback mountain type of shit.
The way some people always bring up things like this make it sound like you really wish there was.
@@TheFaintofHearts2113exactly, bro. These hbk haters straight funnystyle…
I’d be a mess too if I were Pat and Vince’s boy toy.
Anybody outside of the KLIQ would agree with you, Stevie.
Triple H would probably agree too. He was basically Shawn's babysitter. He was the one who would stay up in Shawn's hotel room all night making sure he doesn't choke on his own vomit in his sleep.
He was the only sober member of the Kliq.
@LordZaayl That's true. Shawn and Hunter also had a falling out, no?
Stevie you're so humble and a pleasure to listen to, you're my favorite podcast.
You're a humble dude, these stories are great. I think you were too good for the business man. lol
You already made a video throwing dirt at your former hero. At this point you're trying to assassinate his character
HBK did that to himself.
Shawn will be okay without you defending his honor. He's an amazing wrestler but pretty much every source back then says he wasn't a very good person. That's not assassinating his character. That's his personal experiences, and there's no qouta on how much he is allowed to talk about it.
Did Stevie force Shawn to be on way too many drugs?
Every video I see from this guy is him either talking about Shawn Michaels or Triple H.
Your hero was a dickhead deal with it
He was out of control in the 90’s & he if he didn’t hurt his back, he would be dead, he was that close to dying of an OD
Shawn is a once in a few centuries performer. That being said the boy toy really threw his clout around but I suppose in a cutthroat business that is the name of the game.
I’m glad HHH and HBK have turned their lives around and became forced for good.
Hero arc pays off
HHH is a corporate man and there are many accounts that HBK is still a nasty piece of work behind the scenes
what exactly have paul and shawn done to show that they're a force of good?
@@krsnirvan I’ll flip the question around and ask you just that. #TeachingMoment #Spirituality
@@Chichimee nobody is saying that I turned my life around and became a force for good. you really think you did something.
Shawn had a lot of massive problems in the 90's. Stevie you are a good man. Just remember that.
He was still cool 😎 and good looking guy
As someone who was a recovering addict from hard drugs at 22 years old, drugs weren’t why Shawn Michaels was a 💩 Bag
He was probably so pissed off bc he was most likely hungover and didn't have any pills to take the edge off lmap
As a Canadian, I tend to agree with the majority of what you've said. However, being there live at SS: gang rulz, it was such a different feeling.
@christhornycroft Loved the read nonetheless. Unless you're a bot.
Quit wrestling for a few years when hogan went to wcw.
bret screwed bret.
he couldnt lace shawn’s boots.
period.
I don't believe this for one second, Shawn Michaels a prick...No way
y’all complaining about Shawn as if he won 16 world championships like Ric Flair
Glad that Bret ripped out a patch ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕
Stevie you should have gone up to Shawn and say f you i will kick your ass. You never know how that would have played out.
The wrong guy won at One Night Only 1997. Shawn didn't need to beat Bulldog!
There was no reason. He didnt even need th European belt!
i dont think that has anything to do with this video
Just my opinion, I've never believed that there's a "new" Shawn. WWE has just done a good job with pushing that narrative, but hes still that guy.
I disagree. I think if Shawn really was the same guy, people who had issues with him like Bret and Undertaker, would not have given him the time of day, and the NXT roster wouldn’t be saying such great things about him. Even people that aren’t employed by WWE anymore had great things to say (Swerve Strickland for example)
I think while he was more tame in the 2000’s, he was still competitive and had some of his flaws. But retired-NXT Booker Shawn seems to be a completely different guy. He doesn’t need the job he has now, but he wants to help the younger talent.
I imagine NXT-Shawn isn’t as difficult to be around, but the “reborn” gimmick from the early 2000s was just that…a gimmick.
Selective forgiveness, selective redemption.
But seriously, Shawn Michaels will never be on the same level as someone like Steve Blackman, Ken Shamrock, or Dan Severn
If more people had HBK's ego then they'd be THE SHOWSTOPPER. HBK earned it.
HBK certainly did stop a show when he said "You Just Lost Your Main Event" and walked out of that arena.
Bending over for vince and pat the wrong way
Stevie vs Booker T, hardcore title.
Come on!
I need to see them book it now. 👍🏾💪🏾
i want the old stone cold back !
I'm starting to think Stevie looks like a gracefully aged Shawn Michaels lol
See this is the same type of feud jade and bianca are running now
Triple h and shawn Michaels are the best
Ah yes! The best stories were when HBK was a druggie 😂😅
But there is a big difference between being a good athlete and a good wrestler....
So you're trying to say that Shawn wasn't a good wrestler 😂
That would mean the whole business doesn't know it's own profession.
@@cutiemarshall6502 Atrocious take

The old Shawn is the real Shawn. After his run ended, he had to 'change' otherwise nobody would have had any time for him. His karma is he's aged like milk left out in the sun.
Random dude on TH-cam knows Shawn on a deeper level then his peers.
it is not a surprise Stevie. It was always like that.He was most of the Time not fun to be around. So many other Workers tell the same.He was a Jerk.
I wish Shawn Michaels feel instead of Owen. The wrestling world and real world would be a better place if that happened
Probably a big reason Bret Hart kicked his ass
And why the Harris Boys taught him a lesson and thr one single marine who kicked the ever loving shit out of him for tryimg to it on his gitlfriend
Not the b.s. "jumped by seven marine." As Vince's p.r. team tried to spin it.

a pro wrestler? nooo
He took Stevie Richards 20 years to admit this no 25 years but this story is from a 19 years ago or is it from 23 years ago
