I definitely see why some people says Quentin Tarantino ripped off this movie. The whole gag of two lovers that go from a casual chat to a robbery is identical to Pulp Fiction's first scene (Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer).
They cut out the best line in that scene: when Otto goes over to Duke, who's lying there, bleeding to death, Duke says "Society did this to me" or something to that effect and Otto says "That's bullshit" you're a white suburban punk just like me...."

I never really gave a shit about Sid "I Can't Play Note One of Music But I Fit the Image Malcolm Wanted" Vicious or his fat, ugly American groupie slut, Nancy Spungen. But, I've always been gaga over the 1st 3 albums by PiL, the project that John (Johnny Rotten) Lydon started up after the Pistols dissolved. But that's another story, so...
Yeah, that's such a great line. The movie is so silly all along, and then a sweet line like that comes along and hits you. It's one of my favorite lines from any movie.

I guess these memories are time machines//Chevy Malibu's?

One of the little things about this scene... Debbie, the only woman present, starts the shooting, then walks out unharmed after all the men except Otto are shot, and he is only not shot because she chooses not to shoot him.

Your product placement explanation is correct, but during the 80's there were tons of generic products in stores in real life. Beer was labeled "Beer", chips "Chips", and so on. It was weird, but it really happened. There are generic products all over this movie. Check out the scenes where Kevin and Otto are working in the grocery store.
