Merc still sells 2 strokes in Brazil. Sure Brazil is going o. Euro6 for land, but the 2 strokes there I believe are for the basic fisheries/fisherman. Cost efficient.
I got a 60 hp Merc 2 stroke ! KMA on 4 stroke . We’ve been screwed on autos , not on outboards !
What about the power to weight ratio? 4 strokes are significantly heavier for the same HP. So boaters are limited by the weight capacity of the boat.
2 factors will make me never switch back to a 2 stroke. And it has nothing to do with caring for the environment. The fact that you can have a conversation at normal speaking levels. I just hate the noise. Suzuki boat motors you can hardly tell they are running most of the time. Also, gas isn't cheap anymore. You save 50% in gas switching to a 4 stroke of the same HP.
Hi everyone! I am still running a 1985 Evinrude 140 vro deleted.
Yes the blue one. ☝️☝️
Honestly have no choice to upgrade right now, my son is autistic, 12yo. And our poor 1980 Mako 17. Needs a new transom.
It’s all we can afford right now. Me being a stay at home dad.
But the time my son is enjoying himself on the water is PRICELESS!!! ❤

Still running my 1995 90 hp mariner 2 stroke on my 1985 sea nymph 17' cc boat. At 79 if old faithfull give up the ghost that will be the end of boating for me. Retired on a fixed income new prices for outboards is a pipe dream. Keep on smoking baby !
1991 60hp Mariner on 1991 16 Monarch. Have had the bot for 13 years and aside from being thirsty and Smokey it’s been incredible. Sold last cat w 1950 hours on 150 yam 4 strokes and now have twin 200 Zukes on new cat. Hopefully they are as reliable. Definitely great on fuel
Yes i have noticed she is more thirsty but usually burn a little of ten gallons per trip. She rarely misses a beat. Having intermitint trim and tilt issues. Here in nj and having trouble finding a mechanic to work on here. Spoke to a mechanic who said he would work on it as long as parts would be available. Yes like sound of those 2 strokes.
@@walterkonopacki5860 my 60 sounds like a Harley when flushing it on the hose. Lol. I’m in Louisiana, our mechanics, at least the older ones will never turn their noses up on a 2 stroke. Optis everywhere on bass boats. I recently sold my triton bay boat w a 200 hpdi. Incredible engine. As reliable as my Tundra
Love my ‘87 Evinrude 40 two stroke, powering my ‘68 BW 13, that I could just KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid) it, lol!☝️🤣👊
@@werdevo6 boat must fly!
There's nothing like the smell of a bunch of 2 strokes at the ramp early morning waiting for blast off .
💯
Agreed
If you like noise. Besides those fumes can give you cancer.
2nd that
I live in Australia and im so happy we can still enjoy our 2 stroke outboard motors. 2 stroke all day.
I thought they phased out new 2 stroke sales in 2018
@@MH-ls1xi you can still buy and sell them but not a brand new one i believe. I not long got a 2008 mercury 15 super off Facebook marketplace
There’s still so many 2 strokes on the water still.
Bout the only thing in Australia they are not trying to take away ...... for now
LOL they're not allowed to sell them anymore in Aus!
1993 Johnson fast strike 150. I have owned it since 2001. It has been very reliable and is still running perfectly at 31 years old. You can't beat the sound of a V6 two-stroke running wide open on the water.
You really can't! The sound of a XR4 Merc or a Looper is music to my ears.
That strike fast is one of the best evinrude/Johnson outboard they ever produced. V6
We have a 1994 200 Johnson Ocean Runner. Never rebuilt, still runs like a champ.
Nothing better than two stroke in the morning.
Better than napalm 😃
@@scottv9116😂
I'm still running my 1971 Mercury 500, just had a full powerhead rebuild in 2019 and I'm hoping it'll go for another 50 years.
I have a complete 800 if you know anyone interested. It cranks, sparks, but I think it's out of time. I went with something a bit more modern
I got 78 evinrude 75hp had new ccp reeds and a carb clean high and even compression on all 3 cylinders
Only thing that has me considering to re power is finding parts in the UK is hard at times
Buddy your 2 stroke motor is polluting the environment and putting out carcinogens. Please consider upgrading to a new, efficient and cleaner 4-stroke.
@@JohnSmith-ib1ky , Are you a Dem. ?
@@JohnSmith-ib1kylmao it's for "offroad use only" so no need to be concerned. Countries like China and India produce far more pollutants than the US EVER will!
I’m running a 40hp Mariner/yamaha on my 15ft bass boat. Will run about 30mph fully loaded down. Never had any major issues out of it. Just little stuff that I can fix myself. Love it.
Yep I've got the same motor on my 1959 15' fiberglass boat, tiller steer. She rips! And it's so low maintenance, not even funny!
@@hankschrader149 yep. Knock on wood, mine has been great to me. I just need it to last me a year or two more and I want to get something with more juice but honestly I’m a little scared to get anything else because my little old boat has been so reliable in the 3 years I’ve had it.
My 1959 seagull out board takes 10 to 1 oil gas mix. The haze of blue smoke drifting across the bay at 6 in the morning is beautiful.
Still running my 1964 Evinrude 40 on my 1964 Thompson. It is still super reliable, runs great, parts are still easy to find, and simple to fix. I’ll keep her alive as long as I can.
Two years ago, my 1998 Yamaha 90. 2-stroke salt motor showed serious corrosion issues on the block. I bought a used freshwater short block with some scoring, bored it .020 over with a complete rebuild. I’m 60 years old and I expect it to outlive me. Soild and reliable.
it seems that yamaha builds their engine blocks out of melted down zinc anodes. i've done weld repairs on Mercs, OMC/BRP, and yamaha. Yamaha is by FAR the trashiest aluminum ive ever welded on
Impressive. My dad bought a new 84 115 Yamaha V4 and it's been flawless except a ignition failure
I have a 1982 merury 2 stroke still running strong. I love the simplicity of taking care of it.
2005 Yamaha Z200TXRC HPDI, 1000 hours. Cranks like it’s angry every time. Runs like a top. I bought the boat from a buddy who owned it 17 years. He and I both care for it meticulously, and work it like a mule. It never let him down for his 17 years, and has never let me down for my two years so far. Smoke? What smoke? I’ve had 2-3 people claim dibs on it if I ever sell.
I am an old school boater. Whatever you don't have in your engine is something that won't fail or let you down. So not having valves, rockers, valve springs, a cam and timing gear is a good thing for me. I have a 2003 Yamaha 40HP 2 stroke, it looks and runs like new.
My 1989 40hp Yamaha runs like a champ as well. Bypassed the oiling system to mix it myself.
You left off the most important part. The computer 😂 diagnosis of anything electronic or electrical is a nightmare on a boat.
And a belt to keep alll the excess bs in line belt breaks it’s done
So true have a friend that has a mercury not sure of the year but my best gess is about 2016 are so his timing belt broke afther that the engine was trash it had bent valves one valve broke off into a piston trashed the head on the right side of the engine so yes when that belt should let go when you running hard on the water its done.🤠@@kencleg7721
Just self serviced my 2 stroke 1996 Yamaha V6 225hp TLRU. Thank you Born Again for the content allowing me to do so!!! She smokes with the best of them at the ramps but she starts every time.
Awesome! Glad to help! :)
Running a 95 TLRT still running strong with loads of fun over the years, im giving boat to my daughter but it's gonna be tough to let go..
1978 Johnson 40 hp vro, still runs flawlessly, & yes I'm learning how to service it in my garage here in N.Y's finger lakes. BTW, it's on a 73 starcraft aluminum bow rider 15.4 ft. Which we have carefully gutted, sealed & added a marine floor & console. Having fun with my free boat!
I still have a 1999 25hp Johnson on a jon boat that runs two to three days a week. Heck, it caught on fire last summer. I through some water on it and patched it back together with a screw driver and some electrical tape and limped it back to the dock - but it still got me back to the dock. I love that motor.
I have a 1995 carbed Merc 2.5 liter on my flats boat. 200hp and only weights 400lbs. You cant beat something that is so light and just keeps going. I had the same experience with my first outboard which was a Johnson 48spl... the damn thing ran on one cylinder for hours to get me home safely one trip. I love these old smokers.
Me to I ain't gotta hook no computer to my 1986 mercury inline 6 tower of power
If it was up to me you wouldn't be allowed on the water with a 2 stroke and if you can't afford a 4 stroke then you not allowed on the water
I still run my ‘95 Evinrude 48 spl on a 14’ Mackey Craft and my ‘92 Yamaha 200s still push the original C260 Sea Ox they were ordered with. I’ve gone as far as to fabricate some hard to acquire parts because these machines are just too good to scrap.
@@johnboy5167
I’m glad it’s not up to you, but your wish will come true at some point soon. Parts are getting harder to source and more costly every day. My Yamaha 200s will need new control modules in the next few years. When that day comes, my old boat will be basically worthless to me. There’s no way I’ll be able to afford repair or refit.
@@johnhiggs325 it's a shame you can't afford new 4 strokes as they are very good l have just replaced a 20 year old f 225 Yamaha 4 stroke with a new VF 250 sho 4 stroke and it is an amazing beast
1999 Mercury 90HP 3 cylinder 2smoker, I love that thing, sounds like a diesel while idling. I take care of it, and it keeps on going.
Loving your honesty, simplicity is the the key to reliability. I have a 2001 optimax 225hp, running sweet still 😊
Every petrolhead loves the sound 🔊
Running my 1995 Yamaha 60 tiller. Awesome! I love it. Hundreds of hours and miles on it.
2002 Mercury 150hp, still running strong
2 strokes forever fan here! In the past few years I got into boating and have done exactly what you described. I'm really enjoying learning new skills and fixing old boats and outboards. Most recent motor I got running is a 1983 Johnson 150hp V6. Love firing it up on muffs and pissing off the neighbors with a smoke show. Love how it sounds! Not a bad find for $20!!! Oh, and it's on a 1974 Sea Ray SRV 190 that came with a nice 3x3 EZ Loader galvanized trailer. Been enjoying the heck out of it. I've got over a dozen motors and with the exception of a couple they're all 2 strokes! Love the sound and smell!
I run a 70 HP Johnson two stroke that I got new in 1984. It runs great. I did change the fuel lines a few years ago. I also changed the stater/charging system two years ago. I winterize it each year and it fires right up in the spring.
I have moved to all four-strokes because we occasionally make long runs. The fuel economy is so much better. The smell of a two-stroke exhaust still reminds me of two awesome things: Dirt-bikes and Boats. My stepdad has a running 1969 125 merc tower of power. I want to say it's a Mark IV. And, he has a 1985? merc 115 tower of power he bought a few years ago as a crate power-head from Almar's Marine in DE. So he has a basically, brand new 1985-ish motor. He uses both on a 1969 15 foot checkmate. (I might be off by a foot or two.) The thing can hit 60 and is a blast. Also, the old tower of power mercs are buttery smooth!
I've been running a a1986 tower of power 90hp every weekend for 11 years now been a great motor only real complaint is fuel mileage shes a thirsty girl been very realiable
4 strokes do not get great fuel mileage either. Like 4 mpg according to my vessel view.
2 strokes are about the same or better
2005 25 hp Yamaha....Over 5,000 hours....All original with routine/regular upkeep/maintenance.....It still runs like a scalded dog on my skinny water tunnel boat up here on the Florida Nature Coast!!😎
You have an hour meter on a 25?
@@j.d.saccociates3313 No to the hour meter. I've keep records on all my engines since 1980 starting with a 70 Evinrude on my Proline..Another 70 Johnson in 1990 and finally a 70 Yamaha in 2018. Started with a 15 HP on the Tunnel in 1993 and replaced it with the 25 in 2005...Am considering a 25 4 stroke later this year..The current 25 is worth $500.00 according to my dealer even with the hours.
Running the same 90hp Yamaha. 2001 model. I do love those Suzukis. My buddy has had 4 boats all with Suzuki from bass boats, bay boats, to offshore boats.
I intentionally bought the last 2018 2 stroke 175 Opti on my bass boat. No smoke, burns very little oil, easy to work on, extremely fuel efficient, and it’s faster than the 175 4 strokes. I love it. It’ll scoot 70+ mph up the lake when the wind isn’t blowing and get me into those backwater areas bigger boats can’t get in.
2 stroke mercury 75hp red band....old school, runs beautifully on my 17ft Wilson Flyer
75hp 1978 evinrude on my 17ft pilot
You are spot on with this. Still rocking a 1988 Bayliner Fish N Ski Bass Boat my dad and I bought new when I was 16. The Force 85 HP gave up the ghost in 2019. The F Marketplace 2008 rebuilt 90 Optimax I grabbed on a shoestring in 2020 was the only chance of my staying in this hobby and keeping my friends and kids in it. Plus this beautiful, all original, survivor boat would have been firewood if the buy in was $10,000 for a used 4 Stroke.
Thank you for your honesty.God bless!
My #1 fishing buddy has a 130 Johnson two stroke and smokes like hell. Still running. 2001ish. Kicks ass.
I ran my 2000 Johnson 175 2 stroke FOREVER. Until last season after 2 cylinders lost compression from overheating. I traded it for a used 2006 Evinrude 200 DI 2 stroke and LOVE IT. The GPH on it are pretty similar to a 4 stroke with some help from the computer advancing the timing / limiting fuel injection when cruising.
I also have a old Nissan 5 HP for a dinghy. No ideas how many hours are on that thing, but it runs like a charm.
No it duesbtb
2 stroke great for planing to and from and small 4 stroke for trolling the fishing gear! CHEERS from Westcoast Canada!
2 stroke 1988 20 hp mercury, the Red and blue band last compression test was 110 and 108.
Still goes . A bit temperamental when cold to start but runs well
Loved my old Yamaha 90 2 smoke engine super simple and reliable . im currently running an etec 200HO two stroke engine with fuel & oil injection getting 3mpg on the water. The extra torque is great, I wont be giving up my etec 2stroke any time soon!
I've had a 2006 e-tec 90 since it was new . I've had several outboard in my life and the e-tec is the best one yet.
Got a 90hp Merc Sportjet in my Bayliner jazz jet boat, love my little boat!
LOVE the smell of that old 2 stroke exhaust!!!
NOTHING conjures memories of summer and boating like that smell!!!
Got my 89 evenrude 225, 2 stroke still purring… love it!!
Johnson 55 1978 still a beast fires up every time
I've bewn using the same Johnson 5hp 2 stroke on my Jon boat since 1977. And I have another 1973 2.5hp Johnson kicker on my canoe. Very rarely do I have any issues bigger than regular maintenance and replacing worn out parts. My RM125 is a two stroke also, so is my snow machine, even have an ole 2 stroke Lawn Boy push mower.
i have an 88' Johnson GT200 getting new ignition system installed. its on a 99' Triton TR-20. love the old 2 strokes!
I regularly see two strokes that are 30 and 40 years old, never had been rebuilt. Although most of the old ones have carburetor issues and have trouble trolling. I sometimes miss my old two stroke...the smell in the mornings, the sound, oil and mix ratio talk with other fisherman etc. (every fisherman has a different 2 stroke oil philosophy) but my wife doesn't miss it one bit, she loves our Suzuki. Good video.
My 1987 evinrude 110 2 stroke is still kicking butt!! Easy maintenance keeps it going strong.
I'm running a 1978 70 Johnson on a 1989 17 foot Bluefin fish and ski. Runs great. Going on my 3rd season on lake Erie
I got the 1978 75hp evinrude
Can tell why yamaha copied it
The 3 cylinder loopers are a hell of a motor.
Just re-motored last. Got rid of a 99’ Yamaha 225 OX66 for a brand new Tohatsu 250. The Yamy was on its last leg. Needed reliability. Also so nice to be able to hear the radio and have conversations while running.
I have a 1999 Johnson 150 and it's not loud at all. It's nowhere near loud enough to prevent you from hearing the radio or having a conversation. The cowling is lined with sound deadening material which absorbs most the vast majority of the noise it makes. The only reason i cant hear anything is because I have 20-45 mile per hour wind blowing directly in my face. I normally drive the boat standing up.
I have a 2018 Nitro Z18 with a Mercury 175 HP two stroke. Runs great, uses very little gas or oil. I am very impressed!
I'm running a 1975 Johnson on my 2001 Amesbury Dory and I love it.
I went to Colombia a few years ago and everyone had those square cowling yamaha two strokes on their pangas. The place I was staying at had a pretty awesome ocean view. I watched one guy break down, he pulled it up on a bank, 3 other dudes showed up to help him and by the end of the day, he drove off.
That's how they do it down there!
I'm running #2- 2000 Yamaha's HPDI 150 HP 2 strokes . I do all my own work and Love them. Good thing less and less people will work on them. Great channel
Why is that a good thing?
It's a good thing that I can do my own work . Instead of looking for and paying someone.@@mikesolns1364
You would be surprised at how easy suzuki 4 strokes are to work on. If you can work on an HPDI motor it's not any harder.
Bought a fixer upper 1 year ago with 2003 Johnson 115. Took out the oil system and pre mix oil and fuel. Runs and smokes great.
i'm still running my 1980 Evinrude 85hp 4 cylinder. Runs like a champ. never giving it up
I have a 2017 Tohatsu 115 WA State. Love your videos brother, keep em’ coming!
Down here in Louisiana everyone has a 2 stroke. A lot of 4 strokes but way more 2 strokes
I love the smell of a good 2-stroke in the AM. Smell like victory. Long live my OX66!
If you smelt my optimax 2 stroke oil that may change your mind.
Still running my 1996 Johnson 50-35 jet drive. Still a powerful dependable motor and easy to troubleshoot.
Running a 2 stroke here
1979 Mercury Black Max 175, 121 psi on all 6 cylinders. Runs 62 on my 89 Baja Angler 170, keep oil in it, keep an eye on the cooling system, and she'll love you forever.
Have a 1999 Johnson 225 2 stroke with 1100 hours still runs great
My 2011 Yamaha 90 is still running great. I am 74 and do all my own maintenance/repairs. My 90 has never broken down!
That's awesome!
I'm running a 1985 Evinrude 150XP yet on a 99 22' Deck Boat. Spent $500 on replacing all the ignition at the beginning of last year. Just finished rebuilding the lower unit for $450. Good to go for awhile again.
I still run a Johnson looper 140 love the sound love the power band and I’d say Racing is the most expensive hobby the boating’s right up there with it
Love my 2-stroke outboards, two-stroke snowmobiles, 2-stroke jet skis, two-stroke dirt bikes, two-stroke four-wheelers
I live in North Idaho. Run a 1978 Evenrude 150 Hp. V6 On a1999 Glastron GS 180 open bow. Love it!
I've got an 83. Great motor!
Johnson 150hp 2 stroke running proud and strong. Love it!!
My 1995 Johnson 115 on 95 Four Winns F&S still runs great. This is my 12th boat and all but 3 were outboards, and all 2 strokes. While I appreciate the quietness and gas milage of a 4 stroke, I've had very good experience with 2 strokes.
I love a 2 stroke and will grab a used one to use before a 4stroke any day.
I still have my 1991 Mercury Black Max 150 on my 1992 Cape Craft. I could do without the loud engine while running but other then that it has been reliable and powerful and I am proud of the old smoker. I've kept in near perfect condition since I first got it. Most people cant believe the condition of the block when I take the cowling off. Looks practically brand new. The thing I love doing is the smoke show every spring when I wake her up from her winter sleep. I smoke out the neighborhood and I love that smell. Greetings from Long Island.
Got a 2004 merc 250 optimax xs and i love the takeoff and the growl it makes at WOT.
Steve in Florida caught your video and enjoyed it thank you. You know there isn't a lot of 2 stroke motor left, and they need to leave the ones that are still left alone!,,,,,,,
I am still running a 2002 Mercury 225 2 stroke . Very happy with this 2 stroke. I run Lucas 2 stroke oil and is very low smoke .

My 2006 Yamaha 50 on a 16 foot express is still rocking and rolling going to keep it going as long as i can.🤠
78" evinrude 35 on my whaler. Love that motor. Less weight and better hole shots. The ONLY advantage in a 4 stroke is it is quieter.

Running my 2003 Evinrude 115 on my deck boat. I love this engine, it replaced my 1993 Force 120 (POS) What an improvement!! Ill run this one till I can't fix it for some reason.
I have a 2001 Nitro 185 Sport. The original Mercury XR6 150 still gets me around the lake quite nicely.! I bought the boat used from the original owner in 2015. My first boat. Many lessons learned the hard way, but I got on the water. The engine is solid, but needed some basic maintenance and I did have the lower rebuilt. No plans to replace it anytime soon.
I'm still running a 2008 Yamaha 90hp 2 stroke. It's a bullet proof motor, and extremely clean. It has 122 original hours. There's nothing like the smell of a 2 stroke and salt water/air in the morning. It smells like VICTORY
Rocking a 1968 Johnson 6 horse, still works. New impeller every few years is all it really needs.
1983 2 smoke 80 HP. Running strong!
We have a 1998 125 HP Mercury 2 stroke with 1250 hours on it. The motor has been run in salt water for 26 years without any problems. The local boatyard does an annual tuneup and other than impellers and new poppet and thermostats there have been no major repairs. Love our 2 stroke.
1999 yamaha c90 still going strong! Best damn motors
got one myself, 100& agree.
I have a 1992 Yamaha 150 running great. Can't beat the sound and smell of a 2 stroke
1997 Johnson 70 2-stroke on my Ray Craft Bass Boat. Runs like a dream!
2 strokes can live forever. My dads old tohatsu 9.9 has bad rod bearings, but it still starts and runs perfectly. It is also really easy to work on .
I have a 98 Yamaha 150hp 2 stroke. Only complaint I have is dealing with 60 gals of old premix 2 stroke fuel.
2008 2 stroke Yamaha on my boat. Runs great.
1980 Evinrude 70hp, running my 16' open bow. Owned this boat for 30 years. Other than maintenance it's a champ. Did compression test last year, 150, 148, 148. Came out of the factory making 150. Never getting rid of this engine. Btw top speed 35mph.
One big thing not mentioned is weight. That Yamaha 90 weighs 262 lbs. The lightest 90 4 stroke is the Suzuki at 343 lbs. Adding over 80 lbs to the transom can have a big impact on smaller boats that were designed for 2 strokes.
You can change your batteries to Lithium and save the weight that you loose on 4 stroke.
---
2 strokers are dinosaurs from past in anyway
This is very true especially when we're all repowering older boats. I have a 200 2 stroke mercury that weights the same as a 115 4 stroke.
@@amadeuss3341 Batteries aren't bolted to the transom and can be located for ideal weight distribution. Regardless, a heavy group 24 battery weighs 33 lbs, so unless a lithium battery weighs negative 48 lbs or less, it'd be a weight gain in the 90 hp example. And you can run a lithium battery with the 2 stroke for even less weight. It's not like that savings is exclusive to 4 stroke motors.
@ATStone I know it's not inclusive, i just brought up a simple example.
Times go forward, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I’m running a 2005 Yamaha TLR running great. Very easy to work on very nice
2004 yammy 70hp 2 stroke. Love it
