SINGAPORE - When Malaysian teenager Ah Heng (not his real name) saw a Facebook post in February advertising a job for a customer service position in Cambodia, he was intrigued.
The job promised him RM4,000 (S$1,250), which was more than what Ah Heng, 19, earned monthly as a phone shop assistant back home.

@@JesusLovesHisCreations YES! Very intelligent reply. Those that pass judgment here would be some of the first the scammer would ensnare. They know the psychology & verbiage to look for. This is such a massive issue, combined with child sex trafficking, but yet there is rarely mass media investigations, discussion, or education that we must examine this question- why aren't our governments, media & elite not demanding better protection for our children?

Despite wide reports on these scammers, yet so many fall into their traps. Malaysian Chinese formed the largest group, otherwise Taiwanese if not for their lockdown. Why are the Chinese educated so easily scammed to Myanmar or Cambodia. Is the Chinese educator chauvinists to be blame?

    • @commieskungflu1635

If Shopee and Lazada can do a verification check thru a handphone when making a signin or login to their accounts using a new device, why the banks cannot do a verification or OTP check when doing login or signin to an online banking account, in addition to the username / ID and Password. Further to improve security, all iphone number change should require another OTP. Banks should be responsible for doing business with any software programmes that are unsecure and outdated. When an OTP is sent to account bearer, then a login attempt or change of iphone number is going on, even when a scammer is attempting to hack .

@@graciehartietv That's fairly expensive to do, still, at this time & it would still be not quite right, but that doesn't mean there are no groups using AI to deceive. The point is this, don't go, there should always be a contract, nothing hand-drawn & you are smart enough, don't let false hope lure you, your children, your siblings, or your friend. Trust no one and question everything. It even happens in the USA, not so much in work camps, but scamming out of money, or girls & women come at very high prices with s3x trafficking. Losses equal hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars every year. I don't like politics, but that fraudulent POTUS we have now has a fraudulent son, too. Trump had made quick progress building a wall across the US-Mexico border, but his 1st week in office, Biden canceled everything. Our border patrol agents were devastated, they are letting criminals, murderers & traffickers walk right into the USA. We don't have online work scammer groups targeting us & our children, but trafficking rings of pedophiles. The horrors of this are what they are doing to babies & though I pray. I know most of us have different beliefs, and that is ok, I'm not trying to force mine on any of you & I don't know enough about your beliefs, I apologize, but I will tell you this, our thoughts & words are POWERFUL, no matter your belief, this is true & knowing this I pray for you, your children, your country. Evil is real, and what these scammers & traffickers are doing is evidence of that, stay away from it if is too good to be true.

It is not always based on gullibility, often is hopelessness that drives people to make choices that are less than ideal. They are in such a terrible state, whether poverty, loneliness, etc., that they come across something that gives them a spark of hope & they hold onto that & their brain only catches up with reality after it's too late. For these kids, many have not had good education, what seems obvious to us, they have no idea.
