Mother in China reunites with missing son after 32-year search

Li Jingzhi spent more than three decades searching for her son, who went missing as a toddler in central China’s Shaanxi province. She travelled to nearly every Chinese province, following every lead that never panned out until the spring of 2020, when DNA technology confirmed that a man in Chengdu was Li's missing son, Jiajia. After being reunited with her son in a nationally televised event, Li became a high-profile advocate for helping families in China find their missing children. Recounting her long search, Li said she never lost hope. Her son, Jiajia, meanwhile, spoke out for the first time about his years growing up with his foster parents and how reuniting with his birth parents helped him to understand that he was not abandoned.

I can't imagine what this boy must be feeling. From feeling abandoned and hatred then realizing that your mother not only never abandoned you but kept searching for you for THIRTY TWO years she loves you THAT much. The reunion of mother and son is so beautiful.

This story brought tears to my eyes. He was getting bullied and his foster dad didn't care. This mom went out and searched and searched. That's amazing dedication. Jiajia is such a beautiful guy. I'm so glad he is back with his real family. They didn't say what happened to his real father :( Jiajia seems like such an amazing person. His mom reminds me of my mom.
His parents divorced after they lost the boy.
When Jiajia said he always shared everything with her mom, it just struck me that her mom is very lucky because even parents who raise their kids from little don't get to have such special bonding like that.

@@condorX2 It's either daughters are unlikely getting kidnapped or they don't really care much about losing their daughters. We need a separate video on that.
For those who wonder where the biological father is (the red shirt guy @ 4:17), the biological parents were divorced several years after the kidnap. The father wanted to put it behind and try for another kid, but the mother refuse to give up the search. It's definitely a tragic situation for the family. If it wasn't the kidnap, they probably would still be a happy family of three. That's why I strongly believe China really should increase the penalty for kidnapping and children trafficking.

Not exact quote, but when she said (basically) “I had the abilities as mother to raise a child, but that was robbed of me” that was very heart breaking… it’s not easy and at times a lot of mums ‘regret’ it (not actually, just angry/extreme emotional words), but they always want to come back to their kid(s) again. She was prepared/ready and she was (mostly I hope) happy raising him but all of a sudden he was gone.. 😢

When I lost my cat for a month, i couldn’t sleep, eat properly, always anxious and cry myself to sleep. When I found her it was the best day of my life. Now, imagine a mother losing her child for 32 years!!!! It must have been a million times if not infinitely worse! I can see her genuine happiness but also felt her resentments for not being able to raise her child. They were both robbed. But at least they got each other back. I’m really happy for both of them!

I remember seeing this lady on a show dedicated to spreading information on children trafficking a few years ago. That day she did not find her son, but I remembered her for being soooo eloquent and having a unique grace in spite of her loss. So happy she found him now. 👍👍👏👏
I remember watching those videos to and hoping that one-day the same could happen for her. I was in tears when I saw her face on this video, and the fact that it is a happy reunion is heart rendering in a positive way.

This is like my dream to be able to run into my moms arms. She passed away when I was 4, and my dad about 6 months later. I can whole heartedly understand what her son meant when he said he felt something was wrong (with the new caregivers not caring at all). Now as a parent myself I cannot look at my beloved daughter and not wonder how or why someone could not be caring for their child fiercely. It's beyond words to explain the bond between mother and child. He hasn't seen his mom in 30yrs but at first glance he knew and his first reaction was to run to her. And with no doubt the mother knew her son. Very beautiful moment.

I am so struck by how Jiajia’s eyes are still the same…going by his childhood picture. Everything else about his face seems changed. I cannot begin to imagine what the mother has gone through. I hope no mother has to go through separation from her children!

The father is alive. The man at the reunion scene was him. He is very ecstatic too. If you watch the Chinese news, you will know they divorced, because they could not stand the home without the son, and the father felt too guilty. But they remain friends.

I heard of this mother's search in Canada before Jiajia was found. This mom left no stone unturned. This man must never doubt his mother's love. I hope she has many years left to live in joy with her sweet boy now home safe. ❤️

She lost a toddler and 32 years later, got back a teenager! Amazing how they didn't age so much after 32 years! But what's more amazing is the mother's undying love and 3 decade long search for him.
Reminds me of the case in india, mother lost both of her sons in one day: the oldest one was struck by a train and killed while the younger one was later lost somehow and ended up being adopted by a Australian family. 20 years later, the mother and the younger son reunite, truly emotional.

I love how the mum never gave up hope and kept searching. Usually, after a year of searching people just give up. The mum is so determined that she didn’t even try for another baby. The fact that she wouldn’t get another child to replace Jiajia shows how much she cares for him. Love this woman❤

I'm so glad to see the son reciprocating the mother's love. I've seen videos of children finding out who the real parent is and then deciding to stay with the parent who raised them. I don't blame the children but it's like even when the lost child is found, the parent still lost the child. If this boy were raised by loving parents, it would probably have been the same. I'm sure all of the parents no matter how heartbroken wished the best for their children, that they were in safe hands well cared for. It's a parent's love. Kidnappers should totally get the death penalty or life imprisonment.

Makes me think of a little boy who went missing here in Nova Scotia in 2020. He’s been missing for 3 1/2 years now and he was only 3 years old at the time. I hope one day - preferably much sooner than this - he gets the reunion he deserves and that he is safe

@@rachelcookie321 his mom took him to another state & married a man whose family owns the town. They have police, judges, business owners & the list goes on. They produced documentation saying that my son relinquished his rights & that is simply not true. By the time he was able to locate her, she had done all these things against my son. He went to several lawyers & the least they would accept for a retainer fee was $100,000.00. Because it takes lots of money to prove that a judge signed fraudulent paperwork! We just didn't have that kind of money!

The mother sounds so youthful, if I wasn't watching I would've believed that she was a 20 year old. In my own silly view, it's kind of lovely how I feel as if she's stayed her age the moment she lost her child. I'm so glad she got her child back, and I hope they can grow old together to infinity.
He is at the same age with me. Imagining myself losing my all these past year with my mum, dad, sister and grandparents and relatives is actually so cruel for me. If I have superpower, I will give him back these 32 year with his real parents.
This is scary, I'm from China and I remember when I was little my dad almost lost me twice and I was very lucky that I didn't get kidnapped because the worse could've happened...
I was with my dad at a shopping mall and he put me down for a second and I moved away, fortunately an old lady saw me walking alone in the streets and picked me up, and my dad was able to get to me minutes later.
