The effects in this movie were absolutely amazing. Especially for 1999. It makes me sad to find out it flopped. I only heard about this movie today and it mystifies me how I haven't heard about it until now. Wish I had watched it earlier.
The reason the cgi looks so good for it's age is because they used proper lighting tequniques instead of BLARING light all over it like a lot of current movies do as a "Look what we made lets light it up so u can see every detail" when these guys went with "lets blend it seamlessly and if that means make it super dark and not able to see everything so be it"....
The creature designs throughout are great, and the Goliath scenes are awesome. Truly impressive model work & puppet work, seamless effects. Probably the best rod puppetry I've ever seen, and the subtle cg effects aren't noticeable. Mediocre movie, but the effects in the last act alone are incredible and belong in a much better movie
That might be me at 3:28 wearing the hat and holding the cord on the right. It’s definitely the boss Gene Warren Jr. with the grey hair and jeans jacket in the shot just before. That was a big model ship!
There needs to be a game that runs with this sort of creature design, robots that use flesh just for parts out of necessity or convenience, its wonderfully horrific.
Thanks for the upload i saw this a year prior to the release of virus on tv somewhere and never could figure where else this was and its not included on the dvd. Cant thank you enough for this!!
god this movie looks so incredible, and the creature designs are second to none - it's such a shame that the writing and acting is garbage. You can tell the director came from VFX and had never directed before, before everything about this movie that doesn't involve giving actors material and direction for a natural performance is phenomenal.
Very underrated movie. A hidden gem.
the fact that this movie is so unknown is criminal. so much work went into these effects
Best special effects in this time period, especially the CGI - you really can't tell if it's a puppet or CGI at times.
Yeah... No wonder we use cgi nowadays for these, this looks like a pain in the ass to create. Props to these robot artists (CGI requires work too)
Great practical effects and a pretty cool movie. Shame it wasn't a bigger success.
Mate Jako I agree it was so cool how they did serration things my favorite is Goliath. 🛳+🛰+📡+⚡️=☠ and 🤖
"The thing on a ship" was a fun movie

I strongly recommended 👍🏻💪🏻

maybe game soma? a little bit? something like that?
System Shock 2
It's scary to think about what Boston Dynamics could potentially do with the Goliath robot...
Why don't you look up DARPA's E.A.T.R. robots? How would robots that fuel themselves by "eating" organic material sound to you?

This was on the DVD I got. They just never put it in the digital download version. Not even deleted or extended scenes.
This is good movie
Alexi was not on camera long enough, in my opinion.
the effects are great
olha a beleza desses efeitos práticos!
dude, cool, thanks for the upload
Lol they should have said it was a prequel to the Matrix.
will redo a new version of the movie
ヴァイラスのエイリアンってなんか機械生命体みたい
So, where's part 2?
Not CGI :D

I whish the team could get a second chance doing a remake and j.j abrahms is writing the story and co regisseur
Abrams doesn't write stories , he takes other scripts and butchers them to fit his current project
is butcher a bad thing? @@paulie.walnuts2838
I don't get why this film is so hated.
They put so much work on the robot captain and they barely show him and they kill him without showing any violence. That’s why this movie sucked !
