That is what I had found in my research when we knew we were getting them!! I have also planted all kinds of herbs and veggies for them in the garden. 😊
I did the same thing before I got my girls -- great minds think alike!!!!! My neighbors think I am nuts giving them herbs but I have the happiest chickens (and ducks) and I get great eggs!!!
Thanks!!😊 We do give them some scraps but between the dogs and when we get pigs again…the chickens needed their own part of the garden!! 🐓 That swimming pool made a perfect dust bath. We need to put a roof over it (rain makes it muddy even with the holes in the pool). 🐔
Healthy, happy, and "Preseasoned" With Hanbleceya's not so secret herbs and spices 😁. Cant wait to start searching for our place to raise chickens, grow gardens, and have livestock again! My wife and I will be Flying the 1200miles north to Portland then Start heading north for 10 days of searching for some acreage to "retire" on. Your videos, along with "A Girl From Maine" and "The Maine woods" channels keep me sane all night while working in a giant concrete production plant! Thanks for the uploads!
😂 They are preseasoned!!! We want to give any and all animals we have the best life they can have while they are with us! We are so excited for you and the beginning of your next adventure in life!! We are so happy you are enjoying our videos and we really appreciate your support!! Keep your chin up! It will all come together!!😊
Thanks for sharing. I reside in the southern region of Maine presently, but am getting frustrated and overwhelmed by all the stress of city life. I've stopped at the Pioneer Place in Smyrna Mills a few times over the past couple of years during my travels and enjoy spending time and talking with the Amish folks.
Thank you for watching. Southern Maine is a bit too busy for us. We like the peace and quiet. We dealt with the hustle and bustle for many years and knew it was time for a change! We LOVE the Pioneer Place!! We get our feed at the mill behind there!! We bought our cabins from that area and we get our tin and polycarbonate (for the greenhouse) out that way too! All of the Amish we have talked to out there have been so helpful and nice!! ♥️
What the Cluck?? Looking good up there. I have fans running for my hens and I water the straw on half the run once a day. Also have a bunch of shade cloth.
😂 We have used a box fan when needed but they love when I turned on the drip hose. They stand in the puddles cooling off!! We put up the tarp and the umbrella. This heat and humidity has been rough on everyone!!
I like the idea of the soaker hose and will look into that for next season. I find the hens standing in front of the fans doing the "super model hair blowing in the wind pose"
Awesome video. Thank you for making it so quickly. Very helpful info as someone who hopes to have chickens in the not too distant future. How many eggs to you typically get in a week? And, what other farm animals are you considering in the future?
Thanks and thanks for the idea!! We did a lot of research when we knew we would be getting chickens and we are still learning something new everyday. I’m glad we could share what we have learned. We have 8 hens and we get 4-7 eggs a day. It depends on the weather…too hot, too cold will change how many we get. When one is broody (as Babs was in the video) they won’t lay. Also how much daylight we get will affect their productivity. We have had pigs in the past and plan to have them again. Definitely goats!! I love goats!! 🐐
@@HanbleceyaRanch I remember the pigs and enjoyed those videos, except maybe the "last" one. I can't wait until you get goats. Owning goats is a dream of mine. Thankfully I live very close to an awesome goat farm.
@@billgrant6270 the last one is the hard part of homesteading. It’s been difficult to get use to. I can’t wait for goats. I get to have one (or 2 😉) as pets!! 😊
Curios, I did not notice that you do any rain catchment off your metal roof. Did I miss that? Is that just unnecessary because of all the rain or do you have a well?
Pampered poultry! Love your routine
They are pampered!! Thank you!😊
So glad you are using herbs 🪴 in your chicken feed!!!! It helps them stay healthy!!!!!

Exactly!!!😊
You have done well! I never had to add anything to their feed. Just table and veggie scraps and leftovers. Got to LOVE that swimming pool LOL!

I use oyster shells constantly available in a hanging feeder.
I was gonna get some but as long as I have the egg shells and they are free…I also use the egg shells in the garden!!
thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!! Have a great weekend!! 😊
a clucking enjoyable vid.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😂
Who learned a lot, very good information.
We gathered a lot of information when we knew we were getting chickens. We are still learning daily!! Glad you enjoyed the video!! 😊

Starting to get the runs ready for the winter. I use clear tarps as wind block so they still get the sunlight but not the wind chill.
Ours do not like to stand in front of the fan but they love the drip hose!!😊
So you put the tarps on the fencing around the run like a wind break??
Are chickens really the gateway drug to homesteading? Another great video!
I don’t know about the gateway drug (we had pigs first) but chicken math is definitely a thing!!😂 Thanks so much…glad you enjoyed it!!

We do have a well. We have thought about a rain catchment but haven’t done that as of yet! 😊
My chickens will not touch anything I sprout for them. They are fresh fruit/veg or layer feed/scratch
Really?? Ours LOVE the lentils. Now they do love their fruits and veggies. I will freeze them and give it to them. Helps in the heat!!
They are spoiled, that's for sure.
😂 agreed!!
