All the brakes runs on air, but it's 2 different systems, it's combined with the catastrophic brake, and the "foot break". Sorry for the bad explanation 😅😝 And it's a special kind of alcohol that doesn't dry out the lines ❄❄

Happy New Years. Here in the US when breaks freezes to drums you have to hit the drums with a hammer to free them up. Sometimes you can get lucky and just rock the trailer forward and backwards to free it up. We also use air line alcohol to help prevent freeze up in airlines valves. Preventative maintenance normally we change the air dryer on truck just before winter to help keep water Out of air system
I drag the brakes for awhile before stopping, set the brakes, then after 10 minutes roll back and forth a bit before setting them again for an extended period of time. Also...be careful draining your air tank when its below freezing out. I've had my valve freeze open when doing that!
Yeah I was going to say the same thing. When I drove class A (Tractor/Trailer) that was always the norm...drag them and rock them. Now that I just drive class B garbage truck its not much of a problem because all our trucks have air dryer systems. The shoes well still freeze to the drum every now and then but I have never really had to get out and heat anything...just slowly give it throttle tell they pop loose

This why most big trucks use air dryers in the air system to prevent ice build up in the lines to the brakes. Even the really big locomotive trains have them. Cold or hot weather will always get some kind of moisture in the system. What you did is an extra preventative measure as you mentioned going from warm to cold conditions. Very good job Angelica, well done. And it is nice to see you getting down and dirty doing the work. You can do the maintenance on my pickup truck anytime you want to.

Here in Canada we will add air brake alcohol to the supply line only. The other line only goes to the top of the control valves, not into the air tanks. So it would only go in the right side of the duomatic. Anyway, it is very nice to see you make the effort. Many drivers here just call for a mechanic. You really should wear safety glasses whenever you release compressed air or hit rusty metal with a hammer. We wouldn’t want to see anything happen to those beautiful eyes! In the western us they actually attach plastic tabs to a single lug nut that stick out so you can see them move with the wheel. Or something simple as a paint strip on the tire. Happy New Year!
Nitrogens freezing point is -210 c°. It would be cool if newer trucks could configure it. Only problem is you need to service nitrogen every so often. Awesome video.
Boy, you're such a good teacher! Also, using funnel to each hose line while pouring alcohol instead of spills. After it cover with seal plastic to keep funnel clean for next use.

Love your video's , I unfroze a unloader valve on a 7-5 tonne truck by boiling up a kettle of water and poured it over it ,the idea being the hot water evaporates before it freeze's and it worked a treat , and once stuck on a patch of ice poured boiling water under the drive wheels , it melted the ice enough to get grip to get going again , keep up the good work .

As it turns out , now in Netflix there is very popular anime named Girls Panzer attracting the attention of many girls. And when I started to watch some chapters with them I realized what it was. Sometimes they asked me if beautiful women can drive a tank and immediately in my mind you appeared and tell them...in Europe lives a beautiful angel capable operating whatever machine.
I enjoyed this because I learned, being in Vermont, USA. It gets rather cold as well. I am a diesel mechanic and you taught me a neat trick. Thanks and keep up the amazing work 😀😀
We have pneumatic brake. The alcohol trick works for us as well. It also helps with the fuel system as well. During freezing temperatures the fuel can jell up.
I always mix automatic transmission fluid to it. The pure alcohol will dry out all the rubber seals in the valves. Could probably mix 1/4 of that container with the oil then u hav a bit of lubrication.
The Kemetyl T-99,5% Frysskydd are not pure alcohol. Since it's made for this purpose, it already contain necessary lubricants and preservatives for use in pneumatic systems during wintertime.
I have a 40ft Class A motorhome with airbrakes, I Did not know the lines could actually freeze 🥶, Thanks for ur advice & tips They will come really in handy 🙂
Be careful folks as to how much alcohol you put in the airlines. When the air comes on, it moves under 200 pounds of pressure. Too much alcohol and you have an explosive situation as well as a possible fire since alcohol is flammable. Great video Angelica. Keep them wheels burning...

A little tip. When you empty the tanks for air just go in the truck and press and release the brake pedal until there is no more air. Its faster and more comfortable way to do it :)

Angelica also on the Volvo there is a tank where you put the alcohol and it enters the air system and helps to remove the moisture which is there as a result of being compressed.
Hello Angelica that's what I do on my rig and trailer and sometimes I learned from old other truck drivers you can actually put antifreeze and your lines

You are too sweet, thank you for the well wishes. Happy New Year to you. They have just came out with disc brakes on trailers and I have only pulled one on one trip. Most trailers are still air brakes. It is typical to do a drop and hook in the winter and find that the trailer that I hooked on to, the brakes are frozen. I carry a 2pound sledge Hammer like yours a steal rod 3 foot long by a half an inch and crawl under the trailer and place the rod on the brake part away from the pad and beat on it until I break it loose. A torch would take too long.
Its good to learn something new every time i see ur videos! Love it I was wondering .. have you ever had a difficult situation, in which the temperature was so low that it was better to keep the engine running 24 hours a day? And if its so.. it will be amazing if u explain in a future video.. Ü

I take it your tanks don't have a cock valve or "T" valve that let's you open up the air drain without having to crouch there and hold the bleed cable? I just open the valve and jump away and let them drain for awhile instead of having to sit there ...
I guess the alcohol dries water in the lines and tank huh? we learned in driving school that opening the valve was necessary just to make sure there was no water in the lines and tank.

here in Finland, or at least in "our" company we have bright hats on the wheel bolts that are bright yellow. You place them on the opposite bolts and they point to eachother, then you can easily see if the bolts are lose or from the cabin if the trailer wheels are stuck or spinning. Technically, she is driving a heavy duty straight truck with a liftable tag axle behind the drive axle, towing a 2 axle towing dolly with 5th wheel to tow a semi trailer with 2 spaced axles, that setup is known as a truck and a wagon combo. To me. European design for making TIGHT turns in narrow European towns and streets.
It is a wagon. And Americans say wagon-tractor too on cb. But hers is like a kid's wagon, the tractor and wagon are almost of equal length, have you ever seen a 10 car hauler in usa? The truck is very long & trailer is not so long. I will send u a bill:)

We put alcohol in the air lines in Canada too. Sometimes the brake shoes will freeze to the brake drums too, huge pain in the butt when that happens.
Thats why disc brakes are another level 😉
Whats even worse is if your company has dust covers over the shoes on the inside. :(

When ever I put alcohol in my airlines I end up wearing most of it on my gloves. Don't feel bad it's a pain. Very informative Angelica good job.

Angelica also on the Volvo there is a tank where you put the alcohol and it enters the air system and helps to remove the moisture which is there as a result of being compressed.
In Finland we dont do any of that stuff and the trailers are just fine whole year. Except dumping water from the airtanks.

You are too sweet, thank you for the well wishes. Happy New Year to you. They have just came out with disc brakes on trailers and I have only pulled one on one trip. Most trailers are still air brakes. It is typical to do a drop and hook in the winter and find that the trailer that I hooked on to, the brakes are frozen. I carry a 2pound sledge Hammer like yours a steal rod 3 foot long by a half an inch and crawl under the trailer and place the rod on the brake part away from the pad and beat on it until I break it loose. A torch would take too long.

I take it your tanks don't have a cock valve or "T" valve that let's you open up the air drain without having to crouch there and hold the bleed cable? I just open the valve and jump away and let them drain for awhile instead of having to sit there ...
I guess the alcohol dries water in the lines and tank huh? we learned in driving school that opening the valve was necessary just to make sure there was no water in the lines and tank.
@@dennisaustin6058 alcohol doesn't dry out the lines from water...it just acts like antifreeze and keeps the water that is in there from freezing...

here in Finland, or at least in "our" company we have bright hats on the wheel bolts that are bright yellow. You place them on the opposite bolts and they point to eachother, then you can easily see if the bolts are lose or from the cabin if the trailer wheels are stuck or spinning. If wheels are stuck i have also used exhaustion pipe for opening the breaks :D Also Happy new year!

Technically, she is driving a heavy duty straight truck with a liftable tag axle behind the drive axle, towing a 2 axle towing dolly with 5th wheel to tow a semi trailer with 2 spaced axles, that setup is known as a truck and a wagon combo. To me. European design for making TIGHT turns in narrow European towns and streets.
It is a wagon. And Americans say wagon-tractor too on cb. But hers is like a kid's wagon, the tractor and wagon are almost of equal length, have you ever seen a 10 car hauler in usa? The truck is very long & trailer is not so long. I will send u a bill:)
