The entire King's Leap challenge has direct inspiration from what the Airship was going to be: A series of minibosses that are defeated by parrying in some form, and are somewhat a form of training so you can get used to the mechanic.
Me seeing the Light concept for the first time: "A boss that just stands there with six lazers, pfft, that's silly, I can see why they scrapped it." Me seeing the second phase of Moonshine Mob: "Oh my God it's a better concept than I thought!"
One of the skills of a game designer is being able to look past incompleteness and see what something would actually be like when finished. It takes practice.
@@benma1116 To be fair, the original concept was meant to be one of the mini-boss fights in the King Dice battle, so in that context I'd say it would've worked. The issue, to my knowledge, was not finding a good thematic look that fits a casino

It's always awesome whenever developers bring back unused/cut/beta content! I really love it, since it's great for the devs who get to finally implement their darlings instead of killing them permanently, and it's great for the fans who are interested in said content being restored 😄 I hope more devs do this in the future 🥰
@@Anubonek Actually, no. "Kill your darlings," or "Murder your darlings" is a phrase used in certain creative spaces when you have ideas that you love and have worked hard to create or flesh out but are actively harming the project simply by being kept in, usually because they don't fit the overall theming and would be better fit for another work. The phrase is particularly used in writing, but applies to game design as well. In this case, these unused bosses or charms or what have you that didn't make the cut are the "darlings" that were "murdered," but brought back by being fully fleshed out and added as DLC.
This is the studio's first game. In their final cuphead interview before the DLC launch they said they're moving on from cuphead. But they are still keeping the boss formula moving forward, just wanting to bring light to underrated art styles. So we still may see some of the boss ideas
Personally I think that the unused king card bossfight was reworked into the entirety of the chess-themed tournament and I think that Pachi-Pachi had some elements reworked into the anteater phase of the mafia bugs bossfight
I’m pretty sure Pachi-Pachi was reworked into the the final phase of Mortimer Freeze. Look at the eye color, and how it functions with the lasers. It’s the same as Pachi-Pachi.
I watched EasySpeezy's stream of him playing the DLC for the first time and when I saw the spider, I was so excited! And the record/sound wave attack too!! Gosh, I love this game, I'm so happy this stuff came back.
Me seeing the Light reimplementation for the first time: "Oh, it's a bee girl with a record player." "Oh, you can't touch the red notes, that's cool." "Wait, wasn't that an unused boss?" "Oh my god, they managed to make it an actual thing."
I remember watching that video about unused stuff in Cuphead. So when I saw both the spider and light boss in the dlc when I played it I screamed for joy and almost cried, I was so happy to see them return
I don’t know why but it makes me so happy how they added stuff back Also the animation in this DLC is incredible! And I was not expecting to see the Ice King immediately when I clicked on this video lol
Besides the appearance, they also made the fight from being another plane fight, to a more unique one with multiple floors, and the repurposed light boss makes it even more unique and cool too
Throughout the fight against the demon and the angel, the skeleton of the devil can be seen in the background. The skeleton is actually holding up the platform that you fight on in the battle with his hands, just like in the unused devil animation!
I think the delicious last course was meant to be just another part of the base game originally but all of it was scrapped and has now been remade and polished
I actually had a thought of chess bosses in the dlc had pawns, knight, bishops, rooks, and a queen, the reason there was no king piece added was because of the unused boss “King”
I wish Coin-Op Bop came back, too, but I guess it was sort of irrelevant with the DLC, also, the Pachinko Boss would have never come into the DLC anyway, because pachinko machines didn’t even exist back when Cuphead was set. That’s also why he was scrapped.
Pachi-Pachi is most likely never gonna be used as himself, a reskin is a maybe, but just himself, prob. not. Unless, they make a DLC where the head into the future or something, remember, the time period the platter heads are in is before the time of arcade machines, so... that lil' blue tent might hold a time machine or something else entirely.
i despise run n guns, but MAN, i REALLY wanted to see coin op bop in the dlc. the idea sounded so cool and would’ve been a huge shift from what the usual run n guns are. but with flying gentleman, the light, and the airship with a lot more than just jelly the octopus being added to the game, i can’t complain.
I noticed the reuse of the flying gentlemen and the light boss the first time I saw the Moonshiners Edit:Same thing for Jellyfish being the predecessor to the Knight
A intresting thing with the knight is I believe to a extent it is a redesigned boss Back when the DLC was still in the early works I recall the cuphead insta doing a contest for people to make a boss that was themed around Fortnite for a collab And I believe the knight is that boss redesigned if we look at his defeat text as it does feel out of place for a old fashioned knight but if we acknowledge it potentially used to have ties to Fortnite it makes sense

I already knew about all of the reimplemente content in the dlc and trust me we never thought we see light become real but the triple laser and converge power was probably a noticeable one since both the new version and the unused version have the same properties between the 2 and someone said that the arena for the secret boss in the graveyard might be a new version of the bat demon somewhat but I'm not so sure
What I also think is that the 2nd phase was a reference to the frog boss fight! And he walking to the side was meant to be the devs head or the barrels! Edit: nvm I see he mention it in the game
