Warren, doing your own thing is key. Fact is, in this field, it takes a different skill set. My compliments, sir! Years ago, I did just that. Started a motorcycle shop, at 18 years old, and it was off to the races! Doubled the size of the shop..twice. But I was young. Learned the realities of the business, and partnerships. Difference was, I wasn't greedy. I moved on and went into the fire service, after a few years building carburetors. Had some great experiences. Fast forward a few years...turned in my wings as a fire captain (for my three girls) and went back to my hobby and passion, spinning wrenches. Love your comments about dealership problems, I've seen plenty of that. Not all dealership mechanics are hacks, some of us push on with life... I enjoy dealing with the problems that have the guys stumped...and work on the heavy equipment as my hobby, tractors and buses. Love watching your approach, and your dialog while working speaks to the heart, brother! Keep on doing it just like you do!!
Warren, I'm gonna chime in here, I truly enjoy your videos! The way you explain why n how, your banter conversations of/to yourself & letting the arm chair wanta be mechanics know that your not gonna take their crap. Then I've seen ,heard you accept good sound advice & give thanks to whom shared it. Your acknowledgment of older mechanics/teachers in your history that you learned this way from, & it works, otherwise you be using another method. You on the west coast & I'm on the east coast. Might not mean much to lots of folks, & I don't see it happening, but I'd like to shake your hand n look ya square in the eye. That be my thank-you. You understand the day when a mans handshake was his word. Your Good Warren , I'll be watching n smiling.
Warren, there are many things to learn from your videos, and one of them is that your best friend just flat out loves the cool cement floor of the shop. Keep 'em coming!!
Knowing somebody has more power over your own knowledge - 100% agree with you - life is not always fair by any means - you made the right choice by all means
I not a mechanic but I think you know what your doing if you didn't nobody would bring you their stuff for you to fix thanks for the video's keep them coming!!!!!!!
I’ve used the old flywheel installer trick one or twice ! It’s always worked well for me ! Great tip to share ! I sent you over a little something something you should be hopefully getting today. Thanks for sharing bud I’ll talk to ya soon.👍
That’s what I’ve got is a 8’x8’ steel bench and it works great for engines. I put jacks with wheels on them on each corner so I can jack it up and down different heights. Biggest thing is keeping it cleaned off. A flat surface in a shop gets filled up pretty quick. Engine stands are ok for little motors but I like my steel table for the bigger engines
I wouldn't try to tell a trained mechanic how to do his job as much as I wouldn't want a trained mechanic try to tell me how to do mine. Therefore, no complaints from me. Git-R-Done Warren!
It is better to work for your self Warren. The only way to fail in life is to give up and quit. Or set around and feel sorry for yourself. As long as your happy and treat people good your a winner. Money and everything else doesn't matter.
You have been busy on the video side of things. I have a lot of catching up to do on videos. It's been a busy spring and summer as im sure you are aware. Glad i could take an hour and enjoy a video of yours. Take care Warren.
Hello young man, Focus on what matters to you young man and the rest can take care of themselves or take a hike! As usual great content and banter! Keep up the good work.
Your Cat dealership was just being a rational actor: they felt that you would be a quick study and move on and "dummy" never had that option. I faced this several times in my youth, even being told I was too good and would eventually be competition. The fact that the mediocre succeed should not surprise a soul and the fact that mediocrity becomes the product isn't considered. Best!
Apparently tractor & heavy equipment dealers are just like automotive dealerships. I left them in the mid-90s and never went back. We’ve never missed a meal either.
Used to think it was "who you know" that got ya places. Some truth to that - but...... Now I think it's "who knows you" that really takes a guy places! Good news gets around - great things take longer. 10-4......nice video - keep them coming! Thanks
Seems like you did something like this yesterday,,,, and the day before, and the day before. I feel your pain. Glad I'm retired. Same thing happened to me at Boeing, said they didn't want my bad habits from the military. They hired my friend, who had never been around an airplane.
Thanks for the video Warren. Don't know how you put up with the negative people on your channel, they aren't worth the steam of your piss. All the positive people are keepers. 👍👍🐕🇨🇦
You have to have thick skin to put videos out ....i try not to acknowledge the non sense and the haters. it seems to bother the the good viewers when i do.....i appreciate everything you take the time to show. i have done many engines on there back like this one and they are still going strong today..i prefer putting cams and balancing shafts in with the engine siting up that way. easier to direct it without damaging bearings......i find most people who leave those comments either dont do anything or they work for a big company that can afford to buy all the proper fixtures because they do them day in and day out.
If you do it ur way then it works for you and a stand can get in the way and tell who ever that they can come hold it for you...lol but keep doing you and I enjoy your videos and wisdom!
Hey Warren, I hear you brother. Went down that road with the old line, "your too qualified" (you would think that this was a "good thing", that should improve their profit margin by getting the work out quicker with fewer post repair issues) well guess not. My issue was the "nephew" of the owner, the kid was a "tool", nice enough kid, but damn he was rough on tools, equipment, trucks. It wasn't his, and so it didn't matter how it was treated, till it was broken, then it was everyone else's fault. As for the trolls, there's 5 or 10 on every page post (usually the guys who have never really "done it" but seem to know the chapter and verse on getting it done, and are at the ready to correct you at the drop of a hat). I go back to my previous comment about the pressed coveralls, working in the air conditioned shop, with the pretty safety lines on the floor around all the machines. Never would they be able to go out in the field and "figure it out" without the internet connection and the fresh cup of coffee and a doughnut. Ignore them, we, the few who like watching your videos, actually "get it" cause we have, at some point in time "been there" and "done that" (or really close to it) so we relate with you. It's all cool brother, don't sweat the small stuff, we know where your coming from and will back you in our comments each and every time.. Cheers!
This the one that had the oil tube separated, and front axle housing swivel pin worn? Nice work Warren! Thank you for your hard work and continued uploading of videos!
Making OCD people blow gaskets is hilarious, especially Safety Sams that want you bubblewrapped to change a tire. Yes, an engine stand makes a more convenient working platform, and having the proper tools for a job is the best, but sometimes you get the job done wherever you are, and with what you have available. You're alright, you you know your stuff.
Hey watched a video this morning on right to work on. The video discussed the inability of farmers and independant shops not having the ability to acces manf software. I notice you work on primarily newer JD and Case. Have you run into this problem? Thoughts?
i would sure like you to pull out that tight balance shaft and look at the bearings for a mushroomed end.. take a sharp pocket knife if you don't have a triangular bearing scraper. to put just a little oil clearance between the bearing id and the balance shaft.. so the bearing does not melt and weld to the surface of the balance shaft at start up. spinning in the bore and destroying the block and the shaft. its about 5 to 8 minutes to do this.. if you spin the balance shaft a few times you will see the shiny spot in the bearing you need to carve away slightly.. clearance should be 0.0015" where that spot is 0.000..
HaHaHaha, I just received your videos on my recommended feeds. I've never seen any of your videos before. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN A COMEDIAN!!! HAHAHAHAHA(good content!!!)
Just curious. When installing rear engine seal with flywheel, do you then have flywheel to seal face clearance? I generally tapped seal in slight amount to be sure flywheel didn't rub on face of seal. Just saying that's all.
Doug Ward two piece seals used on lots of HD equipment can be done this way. There is a part that rides with housing (crankcase here) and the other part rides with shaft. In dirty environments you replace the seal and it is fixed, there isn’t a worn out crankshaft, cam, etc. from the seal riding directly on the shaft surface, it wore out the seal instead. Also, the part that rides on shaft has a lip and it acts as a slinger and pitches off the dirt and this makes these seals live when seal direct to shaft will not
I agree with some of this, but I feel that they think they can't train you to their way, but the dummy can be trained to carry out basic tasks their way
I worked for Boeing aircraft in the 80's, everyone went to the lounge after work with the boss, but me, ( I don't drink) I was passed up for promotion 2 times, even though my department was the first to come on line, and make money. Not fair, no, but when I left, I took my management style with me and the department slipped into the red.
I know the seal is stationary but the flywheel ain't and that's what you used to push it in with. I must be missing something. Anyway liking your vids.
Totally agree. Best decision I ever made was to quit working for other people. All that does is take your time, and make someone else rich. All so they can take all the credit when a job goes well, then when a job goes south they're right there to sling the blame on who ever is closest. Far as I'm concerned ever last boss I ever had can just shit in their hands and clap.
We just had a transmission rebuild, all the clutch plates had the glue getting loose so that you could pull the plating right of. Can somebody tell me why this happened? The mechanics fixing it said they had never seen it. It's a New Holland t7050. It was 10.000 dollars for the repair, all new clutches.
Not so much that I have OCD, but the labor of replacing a rear main seal is a pain in the dick and a lot of labor to eat. If I remember correctly you've done a lot of 4.5 and 6.8 powertech engines, that tool should work on the earlier pre powertech and 300 series engines. I bought the tool for front and rear cause although pricy, it works for a lot of engines.
I've done a few years of mechanic work and I almost think its impossible to be or stay a Christian and be a mechanic lol, it will bust your finger and aggravate you to no end everytime, especially newer model stuff as they pack stuff tighter and tighter in these vehicles and tractors lol
tears ago i built a few diferent engeine stands, thinking i needed to have them, being everyone told me. oh you have to have them, well they been sitting out back for years, rusting, i hate them, they are always in the way, know mater what you do, i even have a factory one, they are all more of a pain in the ass then any good, the only things i use ar the shipping stands i made for transporting them from the fiel to the shop and back
We got alot of that these days throughout our country but probably not the way most look at it, today it's not about competence, if your the best person for the job, man, woman, black white pink purple, what ever, but now we have afermative action, and all this crap, which doesn't matter if your qualified or competent for the job, no it what gender you are or what color you are, uys everywhere, did you know that if your Asian you get points taken away for applying to college, what, lol, why because they study hard and there culture is to be as smart as they can be, couldn't every culture and color and gender have the same reputation, of course they could but sense they dont we tax thise that do well and give to those that suck, and that's some how supposed to produce the best out of a society of people, no, there is always someone that knows someone or has a family member and of we were them people we'd probably do the same thing for our kin, as long as they weren't crack heads or some kind of loser that would make us look bad, theres always that and as long as a person is competent to do the job ok, just got to thinking about your story of the kid that wasn't competent by his grades to get the job over you, but I also look at it another way, if you would've got the job you wouldn't be doing what your doing now, its corny but there sometimes is a silver lining to clouds , one experienced it myself in life. Rock on brother, you doing what you are meant to do and do a good job
There are a shit load of people not qualified to do the jobs their in in this country because of friends, relatives, government policy what ever the case may be. Just think of all that have been hurt or killed because people not qualified, not talking about the unqualified talking about the poor guy or gal being in the right place at the wrong time.
I’m not trying to be rude but the cat dealers are the worst mechanics I’ve seen in a long time they can screw up a C 15 faster than they can Shit themselves it’s not how good you are as a mechanic it’s who you know at places like that to get a job!!
Do what I did invite them to come over and show me. Meanwhile I got a chaise lounge chair a cooler and some drinks. So when big mouth starts demonstrating I just nod my head and say yeah your right. At the point where Mr opinion really bores me I might fire up a spliff and pass out. 😂🤣🤣🐑🐑🐑
Hay Warren I was just thinking of what my Dad use to say. He would say if you can't redo a engine without a stand well ! 1st you're no good. There isn't always going to be a nice smooth floor to roll that stand on . And 2nd you're are just to damm lazy to work a bit harder and to pay attention to what you are doing.
You have nothing better to do with your time then make stupid replies, when the last time you purchased a chassis and body for a service truck $250K is reasonable if not on the low side
love to se a guy that know what hes doing.thank you for making this video greatings from finland

joe smoe from my own experience, if you are good at what you do , the money will follow.
Have to try that. I've always put the seal in the rear plate before put on block. Thanks for the video.

Great video Warren
Cool way to put a seal on .... but would you not need to tap it in a bit further so the flywheel does not rub on the seal??
Thanks for the video Warren. Don't know how you put up with the negative people on your channel, they aren't worth the steam of your piss. All the positive people are keepers. 👍👍🐕🇨🇦
All the whiners give him something to talk about and we all get a good laugh about it.
Best why to piss of a troll is to talk about them.
Well done Warren, i would rather work on the big one's some of jd small engines can be a pain but it. Is all good cabbage . Thanks sam

when I was growing up on the farm in the 50s we NEVER had an engine stand.
I don't know the history of that mill you are working on, but...it sure looks too new to have to rebuild. Was it bad from the factory?
you should do a truck/toolbox tour
Its not who you know it is who you blow
If you do it ur way then it works for you and a stand can get in the way and tell who ever that they can come hold it for you...lol but keep doing you and I enjoy your videos and wisdom!
That flywheel must be rubbing against that crankshaftseal since you did not tap it in a little bit more ?
It doesn't matter, those 2 parts are stationary.

Sorry to ask. But did you tighten the one bolt in de middle? The one that went through the torsion damper.
Great Video!
This the one that had the oil tube separated, and front axle housing swivel pin worn? Nice work Warren! Thank you for your hard work and continued uploading of videos!
I’m learning these newer ones I’ve not made jump on engines past 40 series our new ones don’t have enough hours to need rebuild
You gotta stop letting those "OCD" guys get to you.
When you're figuring on how many hours a job is going to take, do you check like a Mitchell guidebook or is it just experience?
Thats a cool light you have the thin one
The one I always loved was" Your not a team player", my response was " Well if being an idiot robot is
being a team player, your right ! "
What tool did you use to hammer in those balancer bearings?
What do the small gears on the bottom do?
Does this engine have a timing belt or timing chain
Salut tank you vidéo magnifique super je pensais à cela

Hello from Greece. Nise video sir.
i would sure like you to pull out that tight balance shaft and look at the bearings for a mushroomed end.. take a sharp pocket knife if you don't have a triangular bearing scraper. to put just a little oil clearance between the bearing id and the balance shaft.. so the bearing does not melt and weld to the surface of the balance shaft at start up. spinning in the bore and destroying the block and the shaft. its about 5 to 8 minutes to do this.. if you spin the balance shaft a few times you will see the shiny spot in the bearing you need to carve away slightly.. clearance should be 0.0015" where that spot is 0.000..
Come to Texas. No state Taxs. Lots of work. 12 months a year
How did you get access to John Deere software
Great job👍
Grades don't matter when family is concerned. Sad, but true.

Thanks for explaining that I had the same question. Field mechanics always have tricks like this.
Thanks for the video and all the information you have shared with all of us. F### the naysayers and don’t let the get to you
Hey Warren tell’m you use to be a shade tree mechanic but you cut down the tree and built yerself a shop 😂
Good works
how do you deal with the people drop off a rig I need it Monday today is Friday my shop is the same way I just standing there like what
I agree with some of this, but I feel that they think they can't train you to their way, but the dummy can be trained to carry out basic tasks their way
its all about control , get him to work crazy hours , low pay , control , control . Its like the nail that sticks up gets hammered down .

Won't the flywheel rub on the seal if you don't knock it in a bit further ?

Possibly
Excellent job warren Dont let the trolls n know it alls get to you I'm sure they couldn't find there way out of a wet paper bag !
What brand are those gloves?
Worked for myself since 1980 i.m not a team player.
Sounds like wrong fluid or contaminated fluid.
Seen it happen with water in the fluid on a machine that had flood damage.
I say do what works for you. You know more bout what you're doing than me
I hear ya warren i was the same way all dealers want to hire people they can brain wash to thinking one way and not outside the box
Engine stand is all about show not quality! Those are the ones that gotta have a stand .
He had pictures of the general manager with small barn yard animals !!!
I was just thinking wow that is easier than with an engine stand and then you started talking about not having one.
Maybe thay was afraid you would do a good job fix it write and the work wouldn’t come back as soon to hell with dealerships
Lots of TH-cam certified experts in this comment section

@@ducky1496 would you say it is worth getting a certificate as a diesel mechanic today?

Guess I'm a hack too, cuz I'd have slammed that seal on with punch and a hammer. I've done it plenty of times and never had an issue.
Oh well look where you are now in life

Expensive John deere engine Parts to Replace
Engine stand ? What's that ? Just get Er done!
Piss off the OCD people, Warren your a hoot.lol

Your probably better off working for yourself!
Hay Warren I was just thinking of what my Dad use to say. He would say if you can't redo a engine without a stand well ! 1st you're no good. There isn't always going to be a nice smooth floor to roll that stand on . And 2nd you're are just to damm lazy to work a bit harder and to pay attention to what you are doing.
bad move on the repair shop takeing the less qualified person. if he screws up word might get out the school will lose integraty...
Ever thought of a career in comedy rather than mechanic?
$250k service truck... That thing must be made of titanium.
You have nothing better to do with your time then make stupid replies, when the last time you purchased a chassis and body for a service truck $250K is reasonable if not on the low side
