So as I was watching the first minute of this I saw my bunny laying down and thought it would be a perfect time to try this. So I laid beside her. Started massaging her back. It lasted 10 seconds. She hopped up, sat on my back so I couldn't get up and groomed MY back! My little bunny made my day!
honestly, i watched some of their videos because im getting rabbits, but now i have almost seen everything, because I have so much fun watching these women talk to each other. I still can't decide who I'm rooting for
Ive used this numerous time on my gassy bun and it has always proven effective. Just make sure bun is placed on a non-slip surface so their paws arent slipping around as you lift the bum etc - makes them more comfortable and the whole process much easier. I usually do it in 5 minute sessions along with 1ml doses of simeticone/Infacol - so far, success every time - thank you for sharing.
You say that you haven't met a bunny that hasn't liked the belly massage? Mine freaks out. I go slowly, talk nicely, try to do it and he just freaks out.
Maybe a little gentler or slower should do it.. My rabbit is a little aggressive and shy (dk how that works but yeah) I approach him at a time where he is fully relaxed (lying down)... It should work~ Just a little tip.. I'm not an expert in this!
Great series (I'm a first time bunny rescuer) and the fact that genius comedian Amy Sedaris is part of it is icing on the cake. Love from me and Karen the Bunny in Louisville.
I know I'm 5 months late, but about that thing of yours; it usually takes bunnies a very long time to trust you enough to put your hand on their belly. Sometimes a year, sometimes three years, it's their most vulnerable spot therefore they also don't like being handled like babies with their belly up. Gotta give him more time, pet him often, be gentle and make sure to never lose his trust, that can't be obtained back again. My bunny died when he was over 11 years old and for the past couple years he let me rub his belly and sit in my lap longer than when we first got him.
I have watched a few of these videos and the whole time I've been looking at Amy trying to place her and I googled her to find out she's an actress haha. Glad she's got the time for a bunny in between doing stuff!
'Kissing my rabbit's ears, almost like licking'. Saying it's similar to how a rabbit would groom another rabbit without doing it, like using the fingers to pluck the fur instead of their teeth... though the way they said it was a bit off. XD
I went to a professional breeder recently and she pointed out all the spots to me where the rabbits like being massaged, one of which included behind the jaw. It kinda looks like she was choking the bunny or trying to stretch out its neck but when she stopped, it was nudging her to keep going! They also like near the bum and one more area that i forgot that made them stand up on their hind legs. They do not like being scratched under the chin though.
The bunnies in your videos are so calm.. how can I make mine to calm down? She seems to trust me, she approaches me and crawls around when I sit on the floor with her and she joins me when I sit in the couch. But I can't really handle her, since she dowsn't like being hold on to. I've never handled her roughly and has only picked her up when it was absolutely necessary. I thought earning her trust would make her relax around me so I could handle her, like giving these massages or being able to trim her nails more easily. But she's really stubborn and everytime I try and pick her up slowly, she freaks out. The second my hands get near her front legs, she jumps away. I would love to let her know that she really can trust me, so she would let me handle her without all these problems.. When I had just got her neutered, she caught an infection and had to go through a lot of handling and treatment for at long time(a month I think), where I had to pick her up every day to clean her wound. And she had to wear a cone for a couple of weeks.. this has without doubt made her more afraid to be picked up since she didn't have a problem with it before. How can I get back to the state where she didn't mind the handling?
Fencill Honestly, you can’t. Once you have lost a bunny’s trust they will never trust you again. Same thing happened to my bunny and it has been 3 months now since I tried to make it trust me again. My rabbit used to trust me until I had to keep picking him up because he needs to be put back in his cage and now he just runs away whenever I try to pet him.
Don't pick them up at all. Then they will no longer see you as a threat. You can get a rabbit into a cage with amazing treats, the same as a carrier. They will jump up on the sofa or come near you for petting. I learned this the hard way of always picking my bunny up, it's been a year and all its done is made him scared of me, scared ill pick him up. So I just won't. And little by little he begins to trust me again, but even when he fully trusts me I will still not pick him up as the lesson has been learnt!
very good I have a pair of 12 year old brothers, both of them benefit a lot from being gently massaged and groomed - it's absolutely noticeable I feel like many rabbits, like many humans, have back pain as they get older and lose muscle mass, and massage helps with that
This is a great video. I am curious. I don't think my rabbit hurt itself, but recently if I forget to close the lid to my babies cage at night, my rabbit escapes. He did it once and hadn't tried it again in a month, but now he's done it two-three times in just a week. He tend to land on whatever is around the cage. My question is: how can you tell if they maybe hurt themselves falling on stuff?
I found out my bunny likes strong petting. I was curious because I saw cats like to be... hit. And I know Mr. Spreckles well enough to know if he does or doesn't like something. So I one time gave him a firm, heavy [not too heavy as to hurt him!] Petting, he's never gone so licky! I've been doing it the past couple days, that's why I searched to see if it's normal for rabbit to like it. I'd say the amount of pressure is... idk... it's enough that the petting moves him a little, but not so much as to hurt. It's just a comfortable amount of pressure. And it's probably his new favorite thing!
Thank You! Seeing is believing! I am terrified about looking after a bunny for the weekend. I haven't picked up a Bunny for 50 years, and the eye drops for its conjunctivitis are on the shelf in the kitchen? To be got into its poor little eyes 3 times a day? How could they all go camping? Poor little Anthony! Maybe it will give us the chance to bond.
I love you guys!!! I have a rabbit I rescued but I have no idea what to do, I will be watching your videos and look at the rabbit.org website. THANK YOU!!
I have a huge problem with my rabbit!! I've used your massage with GREAT success! However when I try picking her up she looses her mind!!! Taking her to the vet is a nightmare any advice for this? I do let her know I'm picking her up but still no dice. I realize she's a prey animal and as such she freaks at something coming at her from above. I NEVER do that! I'm truly afraid she's going to hurt herself trying to jump down. I've had her since babyhood and nobody has mistreated her or hurt her in anyway. Please help if you can.
I did those ear and face massage ms to my rabbit and he went into the most adorable egg-shaped trance. But I need to ask, is it normal for a rabbit to spill its food bowl over and rather it it off the ground😅
When I watch TH-cam videos I play and pet also massage my bunny I tried the kinda plucking the head one and my bunny srsly thinks my shoe is another bunny (he is a baby ) he cuddles makes noises and plucks it 😓😓😓😓 also my hand but I benefit from it .
I'm going to be getting a bunny in three months and I'm doing my research so I had some questions are bunnys sensitive to loud noises like dogs barking because I have three dogs and two of them are big
1:31 "If you're massaging a rabbit and they are really enjoying it, they will start to like anything available." Cats and dogs do that when the petting is tickling them.
How to you get a rabbit to trust you/get used to you? I've had mine for 6 months or so and she's still a little iffy with me. She moves around when I try to pat her gently and I'm afraid she'll never 'like' me in a sense. I want to enjoy having her, not become a burden or a chore.
My answer is a bit late , but well : bunnies are not like dogs, they won't like you straight away. They need to be relaxed in your compagnie , they need to know you and the place you live , they need to trust you . Let your rabbit come to you , don't force her into anything she doesn't like. What I like to do with mine ( he's a 5 years old ear lop and I still do it because he enjoy it) is to "ask" if he wants to be petted : I present my hand in front of him and if he moves toward me or stay near me , it's a "yes, please" , if he come to sniff and then step back or move his head aside , it's a "no thank you". Ask yours , she'll be happy if you do ! ( english isn't my first language so sorry if some things aren't clear) .
What about putting your rabbit on its back aka"Trancing/Tonic Immobility" most rabbits don't try to "escape" when you do this but I have heard that they don't enjoy it, it's bad for them, and they are terrified by it.
Hi, I don't know if the creators read this or maybe another commenter can help me, but my elderly bunny has rather arthritic legs. Any pain relief tricks/massages that can help him without scaring him? He's very mellow and sleeps next to me on the floor but he dislikes being held/carried for long periods of time.
PLEASE HELP!!!! I got my bunny as a gift and it was a baby and it could fit on my hand. It is a Mini Rex and is like this rabbit with white fur and blue eyes. Her fur is really soft too. But she is so aggressive. Not the kind of aggressive that she is so mean all the time. She doesnt let me put her on her back or she kicks me. And she bites me all the time and starts to dig on me. I dont know if this is normal. I love her but i dont know what to do. Please help
I tried to do the thing where you lift your bunny and gently squeeze its stomach but I failed but after that she bit me cause I was grooming her so it was nice she just groomed me back☺
If she bites, she's probably territorial. I would suggest letting her leave the cage whenever you clean it, if possible of course. Just put her on the floor, in a transportcage or whatever else you feel she's secure in and clean the cage. As for feeding, I would suggest putting on a glove and just feed her. It shouldn't be needed forever, but I've found that most rabbits stop attacking when getting fed, if they know the hand isn't going to move when attacked. You could also try and use your free hand to stroke her, so that she might not be so focused on the fact that you're feeding her.
Dear Mary and Amy I own 2 bunnys both mini lops and named Chloe and Ava a couple of months ago we lost our bunny cupcake and then after she died we decided to get Ava and ever since when I try to put Ava in Chloe's hutch she bites her and takes huge chunks of fur out of her but they get along every where else it's just Chloe's hutch that we can't get Ava in can you please give me some tips thanks in kind regards Gaby
My bunny hates when I do that back-end lifting massage. I’m worried he has gas pain so I tried doing it and he only tolerates it for a minute then wants to leave.
I have a very important question and I hope you can get back to me on it. Well, I have three rabbits and whenever I come near them they are scared. Lately, I've ben sitting on the floor while doing homework, in hopes they'll come to me. Sometimes they do but they don't like it when I pet them. I make sure to not more to fast or put my hand directly in their face (I know they cant see there), so I try my best not to scare them but they still don't really like me. Any suggestions on what to do?
+Quasimodo I'm not very experienced but maybe I can still help. For how long have you had your bunnies? I recommend you to be patient. Don't chase or pet them by force. You could try to let them eat some yummy treats or pellets from your hands. When they start eating from your hands comfortably, you can have the pellets/treats in 1 hand and use the other hand to pet them carefully while they eat. But yeah, the most important thing is to be patient and let them trust you. :) Hope it'll work out for you
I've had them for about 10 months. But thank you so much! :) I think this will actually work. I'll try it out, and I will comment back and let you know.
+Quasimodo your rabbit may have had a tragic past of being beaten or harmed so your rabbit may just be scared that you are going to harm them as well. I would recommend spending as much time as possible with your rabbit and just petting it. Maybe even here and there give them some treats :D! I hope this helped!!
My bunny doesent like that :( I think he doesent even like me.. I mean ofcorse Its a bunny but. He trys olde time go awey from me. I now he hates to get pik up. But its imposibly to get him out of his cage to the outside cage :( so what do I do.?
schleich When trying to get him out of his cage don't just get your hands there and grab it.That's a big mistake I used to do when I was younger... When you're about to feed him open the cage door and feed him with your hand or if he doesn't like that, just put the food into his bowl.Just stand by the cage and do your stuff and don't pay any attention to him just wait until he gets out and comes to you. After he gets out and "explores" you, and the enviroment you can pet him but, not straight to his head.Put your elbow from the right or left side of the bunny so that he can see what you're doing to him. After that try petting him slowly for a few seconds then leave it for another few seconds. Then do the same all the time. This way you're asking the rabbit if he wants to be petted or not.No bunny hates its owner, it's just the way they've learnt to react in front of human.Don't let that happen anymore, watch all the videos of howcast about rabbits and do everything step by step.
Let him free roam, instead of chasing him sit down with your legs out, and dont touch him when he comes over to you. If he lays down beside you then softly pet him, dont pick him up, i did this for 1 week and sometmes it takes longer but my bun bonded with me :3
So as I was watching the first minute of this I saw my bunny laying down and thought it would be a perfect time to try this. So I laid beside her. Started massaging her back. It lasted 10 seconds. She hopped up, sat on my back so I couldn't get up and groomed MY back! My little bunny made my day!

does putting the bunnys legs up like that cause transing (blood rushing to the head) which is not good or is that not the same....?
Whenever I clean my rabbit's cage, or feed her she hops up to me and bites me, or kisses me.is there a reason or what? What should I do???
If she bites, she's probably territorial. I would suggest letting her leave the cage whenever you clean it, if possible of course. Just put her on the floor, in a transportcage or whatever else you feel she's secure in and clean the cage.
As for feeding, I would suggest putting on a glove and just feed her. It shouldn't be needed forever, but I've found that most rabbits stop attacking when getting fed, if they know the hand isn't going to move when attacked. You could also try and use your free hand to stroke her, so that she might not be so focused on the fact that you're feeding her.
Ditte Tholstrup thank you, but she sorda stopped biting XD
thank you sooo much!
One of my rabbit was lost .....i love her really much....i miss her
I got 5 new rabbits but they died after several months
Sorry to hear, especially for the rabbits. This is certainly unusual. There are a lot of house rabbit community resources online

RWJ brought me here
They remind me oddly of Rhett and Link from Good Mythical Morning. Rhett is the woman in blue and Link is the woman in pink. Just me ?
I have a very important question and I hope you can get back to me on it. Well, I have three rabbits and whenever I come near them they are scared. Lately, I've ben sitting on the floor while doing homework, in hopes they'll come to me. Sometimes they do but they don't like it when I pet them. I make sure to not more to fast or put my hand directly in their face (I know they cant see there), so I try my best not to scare them but they still don't really like me. Any suggestions on what to do?
+Quasimodo same problem here :DD
+Quasimodo I'm not very experienced but maybe I can still help. For how long have
you had your bunnies? I recommend you to be patient. Don't chase or pet
them by force. You could try to let them eat some yummy treats or pellets from your hands. When they start eating from your hands comfortably, you can have the pellets/treats in 1 hand and use the other
hand to pet them carefully while they eat. But yeah, the most important thing is to be
patient and let them trust you. :) Hope it'll work out for you
I've had them for about 10 months. But thank you so much! :) I think this will actually work. I'll try it out, and I will comment back and let you know.
Quasimodo Alright :) You can do this a moment per day and hopefully they'll trust you by 1-2 weeks of time. I'll be waiting for the results, hehe :D
+Quasimodo your rabbit may have had a tragic past of being beaten or harmed so your rabbit may just be scared that you are going to harm them as well. I would recommend spending as much time as possible with your rabbit and just petting it. Maybe even here and there give them some treats :D! I hope this helped!!
just found a new way to massage my rabbit before watching this, he wouldn't stop licking me xD
Spa treatment for bunnies. LOL!
Sometime I think my bunny is evil
Where did you get your bunny?
If he lays down beside you then softly pet him, dont pick him up, i did this for 1 week and sometmes it takes longer but my bun bonded with me :3
+A cat behind you my rabbits nantes touch legs. another pose?
