Car is looking great. I put the stock F9 DME computer on my 944 and moved it to my 924S when I sold it. It's been solid and updates the 30+ year old technology and increases reliability tons. Great product. Great videos. Keep them coming.

I’m loving mine so far as well, I cannot wait to pair it with the MAF setup! Thanks so much for your comment!

@@TakeFlightGarage the thing about these cars is that every new part just makes it better and better. That’s what keeps me working on them. Lots to do.

I couldn’t agree more, that’s what makes it addicting for sure lol.

@@TakeFlightGarage I just cleaned up the 944 steamed the carpets out the sport seats back in ready to roll. I call the 944S a bumper magnet because every time I drive it I catch the car in front of me like a magnet. Fun to drive. 944s are great cars!

Very nice! Just to note clay will make the paint worse initially, but a quick buff will bring it back, you should only really clay if you plan on doing at least a 1 step polish but a 2 step is preferred. Car looks beautiful.

Thank you for your comment! It’s got a lot of love marks so it really needs a good paint correcting, but I think what I really need is a proper orbital machine and pads, single stage paint I know how to tackle no problem, but this car has been resprayed and has a clear coat on it.
I’m debating having the paint correction done professionally so I don’t overstep my own limitations with inexperience and then come back and do the ceramic coating myself because that’s the really easy part lol.

@@TakeFlightGarage I agree a proper random orbital is key! I’d take a look at chemical guys products they are very forgiving, also clear coat is more forgiving than singles stage I’m sure you’ll be able to tackle it DIY

I may try this. I have an extra DME that I bought for $25 dollars on ebay like 20 years ago when I was chasing down an engine misfire. Turned out to be just an injector. Our DMEs are getting much harder to find now. I'll be watching your series to see the results. Thanks.

That would e an excellent use case! As soon as my new unit shows up I’ll record footage of the car running with it installed, and then once I install the MAF chip that’ll be a great excuse to show the guts of the new unit.

I put in a green sticker DME 1988 and I have a 85.5 air flow meter. Wondered why I have hot start problems. I did not know they need to be matched.

The 88s run a different tune separate from the 86/87 non S cars. It’s a little weird, but as far as I know, your 88 airflow meter should not interfere with your DME, however there is a different pin chip/ program. So it could be that the green “spec” dme is running the 24 pin map vs the 88 28 pin map.
It’s more likely that your old DME was looser with its tolerances, vs the upgraded electronics being much more precise. So for example a small vacuum leak might not be a big deal with the older electronics because the tolerances are say +-5% for the measured air intake, vs the new electronics which might be +-1%
The increase in precision is great for fuel mapping and a better performing engine overall, but means that something that might not have been a problem before, is enough to throw off the program now.
The long story short is to try to diagnose it the old fashioned way for any hot start condition, make sure your spark isn’t weakening when hot, or that your fuel pressure isn’t dropping too quickly/ injectors aren’t leaking causing vapor lock. The first thing I recommend when dealing with a hard start when hot is the fuel pressure damper and regulator. The next thing I’d check if those are healthy is the coolant temperature sensor that determines mixture for the DME.
Hope that helps, let me know if you find the issue!
